Doubtful, if only for the fact that previous BTS promotions started in July and ran through September. Purchasing in May or June definitely would have been outside the (previous) promotion time frames.

However you try to spin it, it falls under the definition of the Golden Rule: The one with the gold (Apple) gets to make the rules.

They've DEFINITELY done BTS programs before July, though.

Were they in fact cancelled?

Either BTS was canceled and they will explain to us why, or they are really backtracking internally trying to get some kind of promotion out (or information about one) really fast to take its place. That response to me sounds like they are done with BTS, and have to gently tell us why. Or as I said, they totally screwed up by intending to cancel BTS but now have to go and put it back or find something better.

Who knows.

iPod Touch >>> Apple Store credit >>> iTunes credit >>> free Music subscription for a year

Seems like a plan to me. Get a free year with a new iPod Touch...

I just might go for that one...

Taylor Swift might have an issue with it, but, gosh, life's hard. She's got enough money for such thin talent...

TURN THAT CRAP DOWN!!! Can't believe I'm now saying that...

The AW is a failure. Keep drinking the Kool Aid. ;)

Says you.

You keep drinking the Hateraid

, it obviously works for you.

Referring to it as a "situation" is not a word one typically uses when things are going great and you're excited about the future... it's a word more oft used when one comes to the sudden realization that the condom has suffered a catastrophic structural failure.

Regardless, I've been a tireless defender of Angela since the Hot Topic days and I think she just needs some time to get up to speed on the Apple culture and the technology industry in general.

So Apple found a person whose mission was to try and get people to buy a product that is way more expensive than the rest simply because of a fancy presentation and brand name recognition, and they thought this would be a good idea for their own product...why again?

Here's what I know, she certainly doesn't seem to fit in with the usual suspects we have come to expect with leadership positions in the company. Was it really a wise move to put the former head of an overpriced fashion house in charge with getting products to customers in a way that will define the Apple brand? Let me put it to you this way.. In the end, was it really necessary to have to make an appointment to "try on" an Apple Watch? Was it really necessary to make sales "online only," except for the lucky few who were able to purchase the product from another overpriced department store who for some reason were given "special access" to the watch before their own retail stores? Can someone please explain to me what she has really brought to the table that justifies spending close to 100 million dollars in making her the head of Apple's retail stores, one of Apple's most important positions in the company?

I suspect that the promotion might be 12 months of Apple Music or something like that. It's probably just taking some extra time to get the deals in place with the record companies.

It prefer some hardware to a subscription, if I was still a student.

Or... Apple decided to change the timing of the BTS launch as there is no reason it must have the same timing as previous years, especially if the program is changing.

Why assume the worst situation when there's another perfectly fine option available? That's rhetorical BTW, I already know the answer.

EDIT: Also, I would jump at a free one year music subscription. An excellent idea - hope it comes to fruition.

Lol, likely nobody can explain these things to you.
If you're dense enough to think that initial orders of Apple Watch was limited to online only because of a decision she made and NOT because of scarcity, then I doubt any amount of words could convince you of the intellect behind this hire.

Feels like she's making a lot of mistakes since taking over. The watch online only at launch, macbook online only at launch, no lines outside stores that many fans enjoy for new products, delayed back to school program etc

Yep.

AA's performance has been distinctly CC-.

You know who else people said was extremely talented? Ron Johnson. But look at what he did to J.C. Penny.

Personally, I don't think she fits with Apple. She comes from a different retail culture. Hope I'm wrong.

Bingo.

I fear that they are both two good examples of people who were great success stories at their first company, but didn't travel well. And why should we presume that people can always give the same performance at such different places? Apart from the fact that both Burberry and Apple are successful, they are very different companies. I think the excuse that a watch is seen as a fashion item is an incredibly tenuous link, and is where Tim Cook went wrong in his hiring of Angela.

Steve Jobs would have never allowed this to happen.

Happy, now?

Who cares? Certainly not customers who continue to open their wallets to purchase new Apple products, propelling the company to greater levels of success.

It's understandable why people who spend most of their time on tech forums keyboard warrioring might not agree. But they're not the above majority who continue to purchase new Apple products based on having great experiences with previous Apple products.

Why is that? That's a $120 value. That means it's worth more than the $100 Apple Store gift cards of the past.
The back to school promotions had at least some connection to education ( that is what people do at school) Apple Music is entertainment of no educational value. They might as well give away vouchers for deep fried crap from the well known outlets.

Well, it can be argued that plenty of students often work on their assignments while listening to music.
