I know the best buy in Hillsboro, OR has a brand new 256 SG 1.1GHz MacBook because I just returned a 2nd one there.

Its an internal video, so she does not need to perform perfectly in the video. Don't know if a video is necessary but looks like the Apple store are under high pressure to sell the Watch on premises

"unforgettable launch"

That's true alright. People trying on watches they had purchased on-line the night before by staying up until 3am and hitting refresh and praying?

How is that personally guiding anyone the day AFTER they've bought it before seeing it or trying it on?

I agree. It would've made a lot more sense to let users try it on for 2 weeks before making it available for sale online.

And if they wanted to gauge demand, they could've directed users to the website or store app to"favorite" the ones they liked.

Lastly, I would've made the try ons FIFO so that anyone could just walk in, put their name down and try on the watch. That could've led to longer lines, but that's a good thing to help build hype and interest.

Angela is doing a wonderful job so far. People are just going in on her because she is a woman and they have always had unrealistic expectations for women and minorities. The bottom line is there is a 70% fail rate in yields for the watch. Then couple that with demand that far outstripped supply. Going in almost everyone was MEH on the watch. Then all the sudden when it comes out it turns out to be an even bigger deal than the iphone and the ipad and the ipad mini when they launched. Now people are upset Apple is struggling to keep up with the demand.

Angela is the only person capable of handling luxury retail items at this level. She was absolutely the right person for this job and she is doing a fine job given the constraints of supply, demand and the unrealistic expectations of Apple fans. We all will have to deal with getting our watches as they come. Apple is working hard to get as many watches in people's hands as possible.

People don't care about her being a woman. It's about her being payed enormous amounts of money for performing at the level of a retail store manager. Customers don't care about the excuses that Apple had a great deal of these days. Especially not when the key individuals in charge are compensated In the millions of dollars per year to have things run smoothly.

Apple has ALWAYS sold a luxury product. How may major launch screw ups does she get? She has messed up 2 of them already?

What a trainwreck.
Happy to be proven wrong in a few weeks but for now, I stand by my opinion that this will be the worst product failure in tech.

Jeez...

This guy.

The train wreck would have been first time sales in stores. That, and the enhanced chance of theft without the glass counters of jewelry stores.

I have to say, if you are being "bombarded by customers" enough you have to send your employees a video... you are doing something wrong. I know apple has a HUGE customer base, but damn, have they ever needed to do a video like this before?

I bid to differ it could have gone worse like the other Android watch launches. The passion on this forum for an iPhone accessory is just so phenomenal.

People who didn't pre-order might as wait until June and get one in store. I honestly don't think there have been many pre-orders after Friday 10th. Either people ordered on day (hour) one or they will order/buy in June. I really don't think the queue is getting much longer now. 2-3 million in 24 hours and maybe a few hundred thousand since, no major increase in sales until June. I also think this is why no numbers have been announced. If they said "we've hit 3 million" now they couldn't say "we've hit 3.2 million at WWDC" coz they'd look stupid.

There is no guarantee that the watch will be "walk in" available in June. I'm not being charged until I pick it up. Think of it as a, wait for it, queue.

This is the biggest load of fluff/crap, you don't have any insight or clue into the job that Angela is doing. None of us do unless we are closet executives at Apple. The women/minority portion is especially comical. Thanks for pointing out that we all evidently are biased against women in the workplace.

With that said, I do agree that she's doing a perfectly fine job at executing what was no doubt a well planned and thought out release strategy given the complete set of circumstances available to her and the rest of the executive team.

1. No doubt there have been production discoveries that could lead to less than desirable yields
2. Low supply of an Apple product always leads to pandemonium and an increased "I have to have it" attitude. If supply gets caught up by Christmas, this will be the hottest selling product by a landslide.
3. The Apple watch has more "configurations" than any other Apple product, and coupled with item 2 it actually does make sense to treat this launch differently, almost as a "beta" of sorts to see where the demand really is instead of having bad press that goes along with some configurations going un-sold initially.

lol I'm surprised she wouldn't have thought to stop the video and turn down the volume on the device she was using to record that message.

Anyway, I'm guessing this supply shortage issue will all prove itself to be a giant non-issue in a few weeks time. I really don't think most people are going to be waiting until June or July to get their orders.

Irrelevant. Preorder started shortly before "previewing" the product in person, and we've been preordering all our iDevices sight unseen.

Quite relevant to the quote you questioned however... What with it being the answer to your question and all.

I really really liked her. This is the first time I heard her speak to her staff and I must say she seems super nice and humble. If I were straight Id marry her.

Apple has already said as much but you people at MacRumors are always doing the most and getting yourself worked up. :D

Just something about this woman that I don't like. There's something "off" about her in the video that just does not seem very "Apple".

What a totally weird video message. No wonder the store staff is confused with this kind of communication...

LOL! You like what I did here... There is some truth to what I said. Tech has always been a very bro oriented culture. They treat women and minorities accordingly.

I was under the impression someone was screen recording the message and probably didn't setup their recording inputs right, not that it was any error on Ahrendts/Apple's fault.

With all the complaining on the site you think this product was life or death for some people. Is the world going to come to an end if you don't have your watch on the 24th?
