Funny

I have to admit, that while sometimes these get "old", the bunny one made my laugh out loud. Not only that, but they have me talking and telling others (just like marketing is supposed to do!).

Pixar

So take this for what you will, but last year the same weekend that National Treasure 2 came out, John Lassiter of Pixar stopped by the Apple Store to pick up some iPhone headphone adapters. He mentioned that Pixar made those ads for Apple. Kinda cool seeing as how I thought those were real puppets.

so to answer the question inquiring about which programs are used to create ads like this, if pixar does in fact make them (which I have no doubt that they do - pixar makes tons of ads, and I'll ask John Lassiter myself next time I'm at his house, or my friend who animates for pixar) they use their own proprietary software.

I enjoyed both these commercials during the season finale of Terminator earlier, which I didn't enjoy so much but I appreciated. Sarah's intermittent visions and flashbacks to T1 and T2 Sarah weren't necessary, and John looked weaker than ever. FFS, T2 John was more focused and mature than this John Connor.

I think the bunny one is the very first Get a Mac ad that actually made me laugh out loud. All the others just usually put a smile on my face, if anything.

I liked them. I like all the get a Mac commercials. I think we will see a change in the ads though when Snow Leopard comes out next year, which I think would be a good time to segue into something else. I'll miss these ads when they go however.

Bah Humbug!

I'm clearly in the minority looking at what's been posted so far but I thought they were a little tired and predictable.

Taking an old format and giving it a lick of paint is something I've come to expect of MS, not an innovator like Apple.

But I'm glad so many people are enjoying them, that's what it's all about I suppose!

apps to make animation

What are some of the apps that can be used to make animation like this?

there's an app called iStopMotion 2 that's used to make animations like this. hardest part is making the clay models.
if you got ideas you want to animate, then flash would be easier than stopmotion. for that, use Anime Studio 5.
if you want to use computer animation but a 3d look like stopmotion, you'll probably have to spend thousands of dollars. one app i know of for 3d animation is Houdini.

hope that helps.

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I really haven't cared for any of the animated Mac ads so far. I have enjoyed pretty much every one of the Get a Mac ads, but the animated ones seem of lower quality and of a more predictable script. Ignoring the fact I love seeing the actors themselves.

Wouldn't that be their Renderman engine with Maya(while Maya is not proprietary of Pixar)? Just curious:)

I really like how these ads focus more on the PC guy, cause frankly, I do like him more than Mac (before all fanboys flame me, and tell me to go get windows then, I may stress that I am talking about the ad characters not the machines). I actually liked the christmas tree one a little bit better, because the ending is so unexpected. It's a very subtle move of Apple, and isn't so in-your-face as a blue-screen / crash or whatever would have been.

Europeans dont really like advertising with some kind of humor sense ( have seen some funny ads from the UK though ) so , yes , I find them very funny .

Saludos

I love Apple's "Get a Mac" ads - they're the best PC (and Vista) ads ever made and it would be very interesting to know how many PCs they've sold so far.

Oops. Oh. Apple wanted to sell Macs with that campaign? I'm afraid that backfired: The cool guy in those commercials is PC guy and unlike Mac guy, PC guy has character, humor and is actually funny. PC guy stays in memory, but who remembers Mac guy or what he said?

Or Apple made those ads for Apple - you know, Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, Pixar (now owned by Disney, was Steve Jobs company), and that Steve has an executive seat on the Disney board.
