There's no explanation for why Anker, a company that specializes in affordable products, has created a $100 USB-C to Lightning cable, but it ships with a gift box, travel pouch, welcome guide, and lifetime warranty.

This is Marketing 101 stuff. Get the name out there, drive up brand awareness and profit. There won't be many people out there silly enough to spend $100 on a USB-C cable, but Anker will probably see a bump in the sales of their normal stuff as a result of this.

This goes against everything I think of, when I think of Anker products:

Robust, high quality and good value.

Strange move.

Add a buck-fifty worth of gold plating, then up the price 400%. Yet they will sell thousands of these. SMH.

I love Anker’s stuff as they make high quality accessories at a reasonable price. I don’t get what the market is for this cable is though. Seems off brand...

Plenty of people will buy this. There’s lots of rich people who can’t find flashy enough ways to spend all the money they got.

And I’m hoping this is off brand. Anker was a damn good company to buy from, till now anyway...

Just like I said to Apple when they launched the $10,000 version of the first Apple Watch. Good luck with that!

I peeked in at the Anker community forums, and someone there suggested the gold cable would become a status symbol for CEOs. That sounds about right ...

I mean, it's crazy, but it's not $700 wheels crazy. Cool that it has a lifetime warranty for when the pins inevitably fail. Nice marketing images, too.

"Charging Royalty" though... 🤣 The lowest form of 'royalty'

I don't understand the people who say they wont buy Anker because of this? Who cares if they make special edition for rich people who want to feel special?
