I turned off BT on the watch and it is charging (at 52% right now) It says waiting to download while your watch charges. I take it I need to reboot when the watch is fully charged and see if the icon is there.

Flip through the male/female voice and some language options to force the download. It took me a few tries to get the download on the watch to start. You need the watch on airplane mode, then put wifi (on the watch) on, then change the Siri voices. Once the download is complete, I'd restart.

It took about 4 tries but I see the icon now.

You can only activate the icon when you have a second generation AirPods or AirPods Pro on your ears and connected to the watch

Yep, when I went through the steps, I had the switch appear inside the Notification-Settings within the Settings app. But the Control Center toggle was not there yet, I had to restart my Watch to make it finally appear.

Thought I had mine working. Downloaded the voices etc. Rebooted the watch. In Settings > Siri on watch the voice is back to saying waiting to download. Download will occur when your watch is charging. I have submitted feedback via the Apple site. This seems to be a bug and I have fooled with it way more than I should have to. It was working fine on my series 4 with watchOS 7. Series 6 is a no go. Reminds me of the issues my wife had with the Mickey watch face not speaking the time a few years back after upgrading to a new watch. Apple eventually released a bug fix. Here’s the Apple Feedback link for Apple Watch if anyone is interested. https://www.apple.com/feedback/watch.html

It was working a few minutes ago and when the AirPods automatically connected to my iPad Pro, I connected back to my watch and now, I don’t have the announce icon anymore.

Has anyone gotten this to work? Its completely gone from my series 6. I am also on 7.1 GM and nothing. This is one feature I really wanted!

Mine still does not work on my series 6 with watchOS 7.0.1

Still not seeing the announce with Sir option on the watch. I have it on the phone and iPad.

I even tried setting up my phone and watch as new with a different Apple ID.
Bummer. Was going to set up my watch as new, guess I will wait.

This only works when your AirPods are connected, yes? I get Siri to announce messages when my AirPods are connected, but the control center toggle is greyed out.

The toggle is present for me at all times but I can only toggle it on/off when the AirPods are connected.

Did you check, if siri usage is set to be allowed, if phone is locked? if this is disabled, those announcements are disabled as well.
or am i running in a complete wrong direction? 😊

Ok, after much tomfoolery and downloading Siri voices, I got the toggle to show on my S6. I just received several texts and they weren't announced though. But we are making progress.

So after getting new iPhone today I un-paired my Series 6 and when I re-paired I set up as new. It appears that Announce Messages is now working after I set the watch up as new and restarted. I made an observation based on previous comments here that when I placed on charger and went back into settings and Siri voices that it was downloading the Siri voice (this was without changing accents or male to female etc). This may explain why some here were successful after it sat overnight. It appears that when setting up a watch for the first time it needs to download the complete voice assets before the Announce Messages feature is available. Which makes sense for the feature to work in standalone when the phone isn’t nearby. It seems that setting up the watch up as new rather than restoring from backup also helps. Anyway, wanted to pass this along.
On a separate note, to use the Unlock Mac with Watch feature, try having your phone nearby and unlocked when you turn this feature on for the first time on your Mac in System Preferences > security and privacy > general. Have a great weekend.

Well. It worked yesterday. Now, after charging last night it’s gone again. And on Apple Watch under Settings> Siri > Siri > Siri Voice > and under Gender it again says “Waiting to download. Download will occur when your watch is charging.”
Even though it downloaded previously. I have reported this under Apple Feedback. So clearly still buggy.
