The latest pics look much better than the first one.

I guess if the specs are better than the 4S and it costs around $200 unlocked, I could buy it instead of a discounted Z10 or a dual-SIM 720p Android.

Whatever I get, it must have LTE and all standard 3G bands.

If you go through the trouble of taking a picture of the back shell, why not the front as well? This is just the back plastic again, not a fully assembled phone.

I don't think the cheap iPhone will ever exist (its just like last year's iPhone nano rumors).

Except the nano rumors had no pictures to corroborate the story.

There's been too many pics of the rear casing of this phone for it to not be real. All we need now is an announcement.

They should have made these look a lot different or maybe even produced them under a different name. I really hope they release non-retina macbook pros with the haswell processors so I can get a sweet computer before they mess everything up.

1. The DO look a lot(okay not a lot, but quite) different. The back although IMO looking not bad, looks cheaper than the 5/5S. I'm assuming holding the phones side by side will make that even more obvious as the 5 feels damn sexy right now.

2. They will have different names, obviously. iPhone + iPhone Pro? I'm sure they'll come up with something better than me.

3. Some people just hate change.

Don't know why but that looks fake as hell. The cheapness of the plastic the metal ring around the lightning connector and headphone jack scream fake.

Looks like cheap Chinese backs for the current iPhone. Besides aren't these for the Chinese market anyways?

China, Brazil, India... I could keep going. Might as well throw Europe in there as I assume carriers didn't like to subsidize phones there(could be wrong, maybe it's different in every country).

Heck, you're going to see this thing do pretty damn well in the US/CAN as well. Why? This is a "low-cost" as much as it is a 4S replacement. People just don't get that. They want to get rid of the 3.5" for developers as well as get rid of the 30-pin connector.

I've started to think that this might be a terrible move by Apple. Soon there will be tons of cheap iphones that people don't care about everywhere. There'll be an apple product seen as disposable and it's going to take away from their top of the line extremely high quality product facade. They should have made these look a lot different or maybe even produced them under a different name. I really hope they release non-retina macbook pros with the haswell processors so I can get a sweet computer before they mess everything up.
Yep. Apple should just keep releasing high priced iPhones that will do the same things as these cheaper ones. LOL!

Seriously... nothing wrong with Apple providing both kinds. The "snobs" can still wave their shinny 5S's around in the noses of those that can't afford them.

You can buy iPhones at WalMart and other such places.

This whole "iphone is a status symbol" mantra/belief needs to go.

Get over it. Everyone and their grandmother has one now. You aren't showing individualism by owning one.

As for less expensive models - it makes perfect business sense for Apple to do this. If you don't understand why - then you should go take a Business 101 class.

Now I'll have to get two iPhones. A cheap utility iPhone for every day use that I don't care if it gets scratched up. ... And a dress iPhone.

Right. That ended after the first iPhone.

Smartphones are mainstream now.

So true. When I see prepubescent kids walking around with iPhones, I hardly think it is a status symbol.

Welp, I'm buying one. Unlocked, hopefully.

Side note - where's the "filter all thoughtless complaints" button for this thread?

I would say this is the finished article - surprising to see a possibly fully assembled phone so far from the rumoured launch date.

It doesnt seem so far. Early September is about 6-7 weeks from now. That`s when production starts to build inventory. No?

It would look pretty nice in black.

Saying that, I just realised that it would remind me of the original iPod nano when the only two colours were black and white. They were made out of plastic as well. God I miss those days.

If this is for the "I don't need an iPhone" people then I'm interested. My iP4 is enough but it ages... It may have another year or maybe two but I won't invest in a new battery or if something breaks in a replacement. This is for those who would like to have a cheaper iPhone ;-) beacause they now use the iPad for everything the iPhone did before.

That "lightning" port looks a heck of a lot like the Micro USB ports of various android devices...
