MacPad is just too close to MaxPad.
I think the analogy to the old fashioned school slate, updated to the 23rd century with an "i" is a logical marketing name, IF it is partially targeted as a Newton-like handwriting/drawing tablet.
The name 'iGuide' immediately made me think of satellite navigation or car navigation systems used in cars.
The first thing it reminded me of was TVGuide, which I would think is closer to Apple's expectation for one major use for this device.

iGuide : Interactive Travel Guide : www.iguide.travel

Hi,

I'm the owner of www.iguide.travel, which is currently the top "iGuide" in the world. iGuide is an interactive travel guide, and we're currently #1 in Google for the word iGuide, and get about 300,000 users a month.

What's my opinion on the name? It's not bad, though not great. I would of course love if Apple also used the name (my name!!) to help support my brand.

As to iguide.com, I tried to purchase the domain in January, but BuyDomains had asked for USD $250,000. It turns out iguide.com was actually sold for $100,000 this summer, to who knows who? And no, I could not afford that at that time either.

Anyhow, check out www.iguide.travel, its the real iGuide, and developed 100% on a MacBook.

Good thinking

In the old old OLD days, kids would take a slate and chalk to school because pen and paper was not readily available. The slate was approximately 12"square, (similar dimensions to possible tablet?). I think I remember seeing some in the TV series Lttle House On The Prarie and often in old western movies.

So, iSlate is kind of duplicating this idea, but with a lot more technology of course, but similar size and certainly will be an educational device as well as an entertainment device as well.

iGuide would make sense as the software driving the iSlate to Guide users to whatever information, location or results the user requests.

Exactly what I was thinking! It would make a lot of sense to name it iSlate, and education . . . that sure is a possibility.

I wonder if Apple has actually considered the idea of using the iPad name for its tablet computer. Remember, the "Slate Computing" shell company holds both the iSlate and iPad trademarks.

We all know it makes sense. Doesn't change the fact that it sounds lame though.
