Out of curiosity. what would you use it for?

I would like the ability to take hand written notes on my iPad. There are times when I can't keep up typing notes or I want to make a simple diagram while taking notes. I know there are pencils out there already that do something like this (my daughter uses a 3rd party pencil with her iPad Air) but I would like to be able to use the Apple Pencil as it looks like it has a lot more functionality than the one my daughter uses.

It needs Pencil support in order to get non-die hard (and rich) fans to update. I am looking forward to finally buying my first iPad, but will only do so if it has Pencil support. If not, I will wait for the iPad Air 4 in 2017

I'll buy it regardless. I have no need for an expensive pen which I won't use ever.
Doubling/quadroopling my ram and speakers and cutting 120g of weight and PiP and all that is all the reason I need. :)

Agreed. I would update for pencil support. Otherwise if it is just a processor bump I'd keep the air 2. Apple surely wants original air 2 users to have a good reason to upgrade.

Also pencil support means more high margin pencil sales. And more users buying pencil enabled apps which means more developers focusing on supporting the pencil - which I turn makes the iPad pro more attractive too.

Apple have an opportunity to become the de facto stylus driven canvas if they bring pencil support to the iPad Air line
[doublepost=1454505867][/doublepost]I usually sell my existing iPad just before the new one becomes too widely known. I'm not sure if these rumours are strong enough to do that yet. But if I wait, resale prices on the air 2 will drop

Good point. I should still be able to get something for my ipad 4. Unless my parents buy it over I gues... then prob a bit less. :(

Based on those pics, it's going to be ANOTHER year of the super boring 2012 iPhone 5 chamfered edges?

Please Apple, leave the chamfered edge design in the past, time to get with the program and update the design language. This should look like an iPhone 6/6S with curved glass. Spare me the spiel about curved glass for swiping on your phone, you can do that on the iPad too.

I refuse to update my Air 2 until there's actually a fresh design from a cosmetic standpoint. Adding speakers and a flash to the existing design doesn't count - I want something entirely new to look at.

Nobody is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to upgrade your iPad buddy.

By releasing the air 3, the air 2 will be the base model. Air 1 will be absolete for western markets, but will still be sold at emerging markets. Just like the 5s that will be absolete in the western markets, and replaced by the 5se over here. But in india, south america and perhaps china the iphone 5s will still be sold at lower pricepoints.

Apple is very agressive in replacing the 1gb base by 2gb models.
In 2 months it will just be the ipad mini 2 that has 1gb, i guess it will be replaced soon, or phased out by offering a ipad mini 5, and keep the ipad mini 4 as a cheap options.
Or they could make the mini 4 50$ cheaper and get rid of the ipad mini 2 and offer just 1 mini.
Iphone 6 with 1gb will also be phased out in the next 6 months, after offering iphone 7.
