This tired boring comment.

Delayed within Apple. Delayed according to Apples intended roadmap, per sources familiar with that information. It would be coming out now if not for issues with it. This isn’t hard to comprehend.
You don’t know Apples’s intended roadmap. Your pissed at Apple because the rumors about a totally unannounced product (that may never see the light of day), we’re wrong. It’s not Apple that’s the problem, it’s your misplaced faith in the “supposedly solid” rumor mill that’s got you up in arms.

Try a Meta Quest 2. The technology has potential. Whether they can manage another iPhone moment is a huge question, but this technology is coming eventually.
I feel like Tim Cook’s Apple is good at giving us the what and the how but not the why. I think Jobs was much better at that. With a product like this the why will be very important. Apple isn’t a company that just throws things at the wall to see what sticks. The expectation is if Apple releases a new product there’s a reason for it to exist. I think one reason HomePod failed is it was hard to know who it was for. People who want a speaker for the smarts probably don’t care much about audio quality and can get something much cheaper. And people who do care about audio quality would spend more to get something better. Who will this AR/VR headset be for?

Kinda sound about right for the iPhone, before an iPhone was even announced, and the more after… 😉
More like XDR stand, Mac Pro wheels and AirPods MAX. They’re here somewhere (silently rolling) among us, but it’s rare to see them because they’re very niche products. This won’t become another iPhone. First iPhone was competitively priced and brought touchscreen to masses. VR headset market is pretty crowded and it never really catched on. For around $3000 Apple won’t make that easier for anyone. Playstation VR2 has much better chance to reach a broader audience, since it actually makes sense for most people to game on VR (the most common use) and is expected to cost about 1/10th of Apple Price. Maybe I’m short sighted but I have no idea what would a regular consumer do on it, since it doesn’t seem to be marketed for gaming.

Just hope AR will never become a widespread thing. Unless people want to become a part of police state and society even more detached from the physical social interactions.

Maybe. I can respect your best guess. Time will tell.

The current rumor mill is pointing squarely at AR this WWDC 2022.

Example

You also got Apple pointing out how they have been creating AR for iOS and IPadOS devices

Not like Apple hasn't been pointing developers to this.

All this discussion about a pair of AR/VR headset seems to pointing in the wrong direction IMHO.

All apple needs to do is show that the AS Macs can also participate in MacOS13 and you have a full house directed towards AR enhanced software showing off what this can do. ;)

Apple already has AR/VR in Pokémon Go, so it’s time to get working on it! 😂

It's an interesting line that they have to tow - show it off early enough so that developers have sufficient time to create and test compelling applications and user experiences, but not so early that the competition gets a headstart and it's at risk of becoming AirPower vaporware to the consumers.

I always thought this thing made more sense on TSMC’s 3nm process node for energy efficiency. Might happen now.

I doubt we’ll see the Apple Car this decade. Apple is spacing out these big new product releases. iPhone to iPad was 3 years, iPad to Apple Watch was 5 years, and this thing looks like it will come out 8 years after the Apple Watch. At this rate the car will be here in 2035. By then I might actually be able to afford one! Although if inflation holds nobody will be able to afford cars anymore.

Yup, I was going to say the same thing. Holding out for 3nm was likely their primary motivator for delaying. I also agree with your last point, I wouldn't be surprised if the Apple Car got delayed to 2028 or later...

I'm buying a new car this year so maybe my next car can be an Apple Car :)

I’m pretty interested in the technology, and what it could be useful for, but maybe not super optimistic.
Even Valve index which can deliver some decent VR experiences still have a long way to go in the hardware department.

This is our future
Thanks for the video. Didn't see it before. Its on point, and well produced. If you haven't seen it, I recommend watching it. This is the future that the Zuckerburgs and many other corporations of the world want (maybe Tim Cook too? who knows).

Crap I was really hoping to see it/buy it soon.
Now Meta Quest Pro (Cambria?) rumored to be released in september might be what I go for.

I couldn't care less, I want more Mac time at WWDC.

Make macOS great again, and bring on those M2 machines, M1 Pro machines, updated MacBook Air and Mac Mini, and an all new new iMac Pro and Mac Pro.

I think it should look like this scuba mask. It's the absolute best mask I've ever owned. *shrug*

Laugh, but this one mask saved my diving career. I had tried so many different masks and ended up with a collection of them (which are not cheap) and found this one. OMG, night and day! All the others were torture devices, this one mask fit perfectly. And people that used it usually bought spares, some MULTIPLE spares. No kidding... I even had custom lenses ground to be glued onto the glass inside so I could see better underwater making my mask unavoidably custom. (On a dive excursion, someone grabbed them 'by mistake', and had to toss them back on the pile when they realized they weren't for them) SubaPro made two versions of this, one in silicone here, and one in the traditional black rubber. The former sold like crazy, and the later was often left to be sold in 'cutout bins'. The problem with the later was that the rubber eventually decomposed. (Hint to Apple: use silicone?)

The key to this mask, I believe, is a very deep and flexible skirt that extends behind the lens and frame. Many (most) masks ended up cutting into the area directly underneath my nose. Some actually caused skin abrasions and bleeding (and infections a few times). Obviously a real Apple VR/AR product wouldn't have a sealed nose pocket, but it *should* provide enough skirt to adequately block outside light, and not cause undo pressure wounds.

The mockup looks like a pair of safety goggles. I would hope that Apple could find a more stylish look. I mean I loved Mike TeeVee from Willy Wonka, but running around with those on a face would look ridiculous. Even just sitting there would be just too odd...

But these might be cool?

I can see Craig already demoing this disaster at WWDC 2023:

I was at an Intel Products Dealer D&P show when a poor guy was dancing and walking around in that getup. Later, we saw hit at lunch with a towel trying to sop up the copious amounts of sweat that was still pouring off his body. Yikes. But that look was very 90's, and provided quite a bit of *flash* for their brand. It worked on the general public but I think they got 'too exposed', which is as nice as finding a steak int he back of the fridge when you can't identify 'that smell'. Yeah, after a while, they had that reaction for people. *shrug*

I wore a full dog costume for a toy store I worked at. It was really freeing, and hot...
