Delays are inevitable across the board in the tech industry in almsot every category. I never expected Apple to place any focus on the AR/VR headset during WWDC anyways. I also believe AR/VR isn’t a product that needs to be ‘pushed’ like the iPhone or iPad does just for the sake of being released. It really is on it’s one timeline.

El oh el. An Apple product with poor thermals......who could have guessed? 🤣

Hate to sound like a spoilsport but I just can’t muster up any sort of excitement at all for this product. To me, AR/VR has always felt like a novelty that’s really cool and impressive when done right but then I’ve had enough of it after one or two tries. Each to their own of course.

Someday in the future when this sort of tech can be integrated into my existing glasses -- then AR will perhaps be of interest to me.

It has to be a nearly totally seamless of merging into the existing things I wear already.
Something on my face has considerations that a phone I shove in my pocket or watch under my cuff don't have.

AR of course has many really interesting specialized usage cases -- but for "normal folks" who might wear it like they do a watch -- it's got a high bar to clear.

damn. i hope it comes out before june so we get a VR logo for the wwdc2023 announcement, or else might as well shelve it till we have a VR logo for wwdc2024

Again, even if Apple preview this, the new device will not come for another 6 months
So at this point this will come into the market in 2023 at earliest
I think what they mean is that it won't even be presented before 2023, but me, like you, hope that's not the case, and that we'll see a preview of the device in two days.

Apple probably won't show the actual goggles because it would be copied. They should preview RealityOS.
Previewing the OS before showing the hardware is very unlikely for Apple. They might talk about making apps for AR and such, but they definitely won't show the OS itself.

Makes sense, but then, for developers to know how to develop their apps for this device also means the technical details will be plenty for copycats to reproduce a similar device. Either way, if I'm not mistaken the revolution will be in the User Interface and the way to interact with it.

Why not?

That's cuz you don't have enough imagination, because i can tell you that from where I'm standing, it has the potential to be much faster to interact with than a regular computer.
Mouse point and click will be history.
That's my view anyway.

Nobody is concerned about this type of product, and the execution of it, by Apple in particular?

(I'm thinking about software quality - I'm sure hardware would be wonderful)

This is why I didn't bother getting too worked up about it

Whatever they do in this space will need to be cutting edge and have immense software polish, or it will totally fail.

Take all the time you want/need Apple
Unfortunately that Apple that had to succeed has passed.

Imagine if the iMac, OS X, iTunes, or the iPod had been a flop. Apple couldn't have afforded it.

Now they can afford to put out mediocre software and launch things when not ready, like the Apple Watch when it first came out.

My money’s on the ”c’mon, Apple will roll out a huge mockup AR headset with Tim alfresco riding the float and announce orders will be open June 15” We all know a certain genre of AR product will surge/bulge with this gear.

If they don't reveal the hardware, that means they want to keep it a secret still, and if they show us the software, it basically ruins the point.

They didn't reveal watchOS first. It came with the Watch itself.

Vr is not a viable product, I hope Apple’s board is not so misguided to release VR without some kind of AR glasses first

I have no idea what use I’d find for AR/VR headset that will probably be limited in use with other Apple devices and you can’t even game on it. Even if it was open source (exagerration) I’m not sure I’d want to pay $3000 for it, since the market is already full of more affordable, universal and as capable devices. I think the headset will be AirPods MAX situation, best in class in one area, lacking in the rest.

Is there any point to this other than it‘s been 8 years since Apple Watch was announced and executives inside Apple think they have to release something new regardless of whether there is a need for it or not?

Try a Meta Quest 2. The technology has potential. Whether they can manage another iPhone moment is a huge question, but this technology is coming eventually.
