I don't know if there will be an October update (hopefully) or it will be in 2013. What I begin to be sure is that this one will be the LAST one. Whether it is in October or in 2013, I'm afraid there will be no more iMacs after that. The company (maybe the whole computing world, as a matter of fact) is turning into mobility.

it wont be the last one clearly you dont know what youre talking about.

I sold my iMac couple of days ago...early 2011 model. Reason i want to get new iMac with TB included....

Now I really hope October will be the refresh date but if this not happened then I will need to go for combo.
Cinema display + MBP 15" or 13" and NAS for storage.

I do hope they will release refreshed iMac because this unit is so elegant and, space requiered is perfect for my working room.

Lucky for me i manage to get 75% money back on incial price that was invested so adding couple of hunderds for new machin will be cake :) this time.

What a nonsense. Whole computing world? What about the machines that serve content to all those mobile devices ? So all those computer farms in data centere will be replaced with ipads?
What about content creators? It is not possible to edit RED footage on ipads, still pretty hard on portables.

If that's the case, as unlikely as it is, Apple would likely license out OS X.

This would make a lot of people awfully happy, including me. I imagine another company would step up and start creating sleek, well designed casings/monitors/etc.

It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

License out OS X ? Won't happen ... and you answered why yourself ("I imagine another company would step up and start creating sleek, well designed casings/monitors/etc.")

Get The Latest Model

A model that has been around for a while with all teh bugs ironed out that is fast enough for you is better than a bleeding edge machine with uknown issues.

I debated for several months before buying my MAC Pro in 2008 - glad I did! If I had bought it in January instead of August, I would now have a MAC Pro not compatible with ML but instead I have a MAC Pro 3,1 which can be updated to ML.

I plan to buy my wife a new iMac but I'm waiting for the new model to improve my chances that it will be updatable to the latest OS in 4 - 5 years.

Cancelled MacBook Pro order to buy iMac from amazon. so far amazon.co.uk has run out and John Lewis only has the lowest specced model in. So hopefully new model will arrive soon. :)

Psh...I'm a student and work at the planetarium on campus and we're all using iPads for animating 8K footage, and then compositing on our iPhones in After Effects. We have an array of 1500 64GB iPads to have enough storage space for all of that too. When it comes to rendering, we've got a skyscraper-high pile of iPhones that we kick things off to from out iPads. Don't you tell me that things like that can't be done with iOS devices ;).

Anything is possible and on one really knows but Apple.

My hunch is that the Mac Pro, the iMac and the Mac Mini are going bye bye soon.

Apple has them displayed behind glass as museum pieces in Cupertino. :D

I was looking for the stock of the 27" model in the chilean reseller web and it seems that we will see a refresh soon.
The majority of the stores are near to be sold out or already out of stock.

In my opinion, in the technological world a 500+ days old mac it's absolutely outdated compared to other brands computers, of course this is not completely true because apple has a competitive advantage over HP, Dell, etc. because of the OSX (the average costumer look for the best combination of software and hardware).
I've been waiting the iMac to come over since april and I'm convinced that it going to see the light this month.

That's in the "black swan event" category.

With :apple: ever tightening control over every aspect of the ecosystem, cracking down on "jailbreaks" and gluing the rMBP nigh unto a solid block of epoxy, the thought of them licensing OS X to run on non-:apple: hardware (and that being their prime motive: sell hardware) is laughable.

In the "anything is possible" category, most things just won't happen.

Let us know when this changes and the real speculation can begin:

  • In Stock
  • Free Shipping
  • Next business day shipping available
  • Eligible for In-Store Pickup

Sadly I do think Apple will soon exit the professional and consumer desktop market. The market is now small enough that I think Apple is fine with letting Windows have it. The Mac notebooks will probably continue on as sort of a sideline product with most focus going into the iDevices.

Consumers are driving the market and Apple is just following the money trail. I'd say most Apple consumers these days are a lot more excited about the possibility of an iPad Mini then a new iMac so that is where Apple is focused.

iDevices = Mega Bucks!

And if that's the case, it's only a matter of time before they force IOS on the notebooks.

Yes I believe at some point they will merge and at that point Apple will exit the PC business as we know it. Fact is the iOS market is expanding rapidly as people "gotta have" the next big thing whereas the Mac market is a pretty stagnant market with little room for growth. The Mac will continue for awhile, but focus has shifted.

Good point but things are evolving such as audio app on this platform such as Evolution,a really nice Multi Track Audio Sequencer.

I've always preferred Nokia anyway, their phones are more durable and normally have better cameras than other brands too.

And on WHAT computer will you make IOS apps ? A iPAD ?
Ahahahahahahahahahaha.................................!!!

If Apple stops computer...there is no Apple anymore. Without developpers and news apps, IOS is only an empty shell with many great competitors (Androïd, Windows 8, RIM) only dreaming of such a suicidal move from the fruit company !!

I wouldn't just laugh it off. They could easily make an app that makes apps and provide a Windows based solution for people that still want to use an actual computer. If anyone here honestly thinks today's Apple puts their Mac line first over the iDevices I have some swamp land in Florida to sell you. The Macs will stick around, but I honestly think they will become a hobby. If you want the latest and greatest computer you might have to look at a Windows PC in the future.

Don't you guys have some crazy import taxes as brazilians do? It would make sense to keep low stock because of it. Just a thought (but it definitely feels like sth is up because stocked items have been fluctuating for past 2 months = maybe even resellers/retail staff are buying into "rumors").

Well invites for a possible iPad mini event on the 10th, but could Macs appear at the same event?

Don't think it's gonna happen (but I sure hope so). Or it could just explain this:

This. There's no way that it is possible to create underlying framework on iDevices now. There has to be something to program iOS/iApps. Sure they could create Xcode for Windows but wouldn't that just cost more money? Because there is already a good working system for developers in place. Maybe they will be cutting off some computer hardware but I'm sure there's going to have to be some capable machine to service all of it.
