There isn't much more to say about these Mac OS X seeds, except that Apple is still at it. Tonight, Apple delivered Mac OS X 10.6.3 Build 10D561 for developers. iPhone Canada details the changes listed, which haven't changed much since the previous build.

Given the rapid release sequence to the seeds, we still expect Apple to be releasing 10.6.3 to end users shortly. 10.6.3 is primarily a bug-fix/performance release, with the only new features reported being some increased adoption of OpenGL 3.0 - a programming interface for 3D graphics.

They should push this out soon.

They seem to like Tuesdays so maybe March 2nd.

10.5.2 to 10.5.3 was really long like this iirc.

Any clues hidden in the code regarding forthcoming system?!

The 10.6.xx releases are for maintenance purposes and occasionally very minor additions. New features will appear in 10.7, which will be/is it's own branch of code.

He's not talking about new features. He's talking about drivers for upcoming systems. That happens in many .x.x updates.

I sure wish there was something in there that said what MBP graphics drivers are in the build! I really want to know which direction Apple is heading with the CPUs and graphics.

If this is going to be the first release supporting OpenGL 3.0, I'm perfectly happy with the idea that they are making sure they get it right the first time.

New video drivers are always a plus. I don't think Apple will address my ATI X1600 and GMA X3100 drawing weirdness though.

10.6.3 with new mbp..hmmm

The more I think about it, a parallel release of several things seems to make more and more sense:

- iPad (wifi version) released in March
- Macbook Pro's could be updated at the same time
- At the same time, iTunes could be updated (to support the iPad) and 10.6.3 could be released (to support the new MBPs).
(The MBPs would have 10.6.3 and the new iTunes version pre-installed.)

Another possibility would be a new iPhone OS version at the same time (?) Somehow I can't see Apple releasing the iPad without releasing the new iPhone OS version at the same time (am I right?)

oooooh i hope so... bring it on!

Steve said the iPad will ship with iPhone OS 3.2. No other device will likely run iPhone OS 3.2. Most likely, all portable "i" devices (iPhone, iPod touch, iPad) will be back on the same software with the expected release of iPhone OS 4.0 (presumably this summer, in tandem with the next generation iPhone handset).

The iPad is purportedly in a manufacturing ramp right now. That means there will be no changes to the software that the units will ship with. Most likely there will be minor maintenance releases after the hardware launch but no one should expect additional functionality until iPhone OS 4.0 ships.

I don't know what kind of manufacturing ramp Apple's partners need to supply enough units for a March notebook launch. It might already be too late to include 10.6.3. If Apple needs to RTM 10.6.3 for the new notebooks, we might be looking at an April ship date for new notebooks.

I don't think Apple is going to want to release everything at same time, unless you meant weekly. They get more publicity by releasing products weeks apart, just enough time for the Internet frenzy to die down before they'll release a new product. They did this last year, with every tuesday in same month being updated with something new.

I also think Apple learned their lesson from releasing multiple software updates at same time (iPhoneOS 2.0, MobileMe, OS X update from two years ago was a mess) and probably will release those kind of updates at different time.

Not to mention iPhone OS update drought... No new features in quite a while. :-(
It's likely that the iPhone software engineers have been working heavily on bringing up the iPad, as well as creating the iPhone OS 3.2 SDK, and thus not able to work on adding new functionality to other devices running iPhone OS 3 (i.e., iPhones and iPod touches).

There is evidence that Apple really doesn't have the necessary resources to keep up with their intended software & hardware release schedules, thus things slip. Steve himself has admitted to it once or twice.

For a company of its size (in terms of revenue, etc.), Apple is actually lightly staffed. They would really execute more comfortably if they hired some more engineers. They have enough cash, they can afford to hire a few more folks.

well macrumors says soon, and MBP's are supposed to be soon...
so its not at all a stretch to say March 2nd or 9th for the release of both?
