I think i'll try to use dishwashing soap and see if it would work and i'll get a new microfiber cloth at the eye glass place.
They are already ruined. Ivory soap and microfiber for the win . Never put the microfiber in the dryer and keep it clean.

I can't believe this blog is still running! I found it because I was searching for info regarding this very issue. I have glasses that are about 5-6 years old and for the past couple of years they have been impossible to keep clean. It drives me crazy. I have the Crizal coated lenses and when I clean them (several times a day), they develop a whitish film on both lenses and I must clean them again and again. I have used everything known to the optical industry to clean them and I find the best solution is dish detergent (no lotion) with my husband's cotton handkerchiefs, followed by another wipe with micro cloth. I have never had this problem with previous glasses. When I get my next pair, there will be no coatings. I would switch to glass but would also have the coke bottle issue.

This has been very informative to me.

To be fair, it had been dormant for 6 months until you replied :-D

When I wore glasses, those coatings didn't last forever and if you ask the makers of Crizal they'd probably tell you that you've long outlasted the expectancy of the coating.

Oh, and hi neighbor! I'm up near Saratoga...

Nice resurrection :)

I think dirty glasses affect short sighted people more - e.g. I'm so shortsighted I can almost focus my eyes on the surface of my glasses while wearing them... so dirt and finger marks become very obvious to me.

My solution now is two bottles and a sink with a hot water tap:

- a small bottle of washing up liquid / dish soap with nothing added, no perfumes or lotions etc (in the UK I use Fairy Liquid Green).
- a larger bottle of distilled water with a nozzle.

Turn on hot water tap, squirt a tiny bit of detergent on my glasses, bit of hot water, very gently clean my glasses with my finger (more soft and more available than using a cloth), rinse off thoroughly under hot water tap. Shake droplets off, then rinse again with a squeezy bottle of distilled water, shake off droplets, and allow to air dry (usually while wearing).

Spotlessly clean!

Sometimes I spray with anti-static or glasses cleaner before the distilled water rinse but it doesn't make a lot of difference.

Yeah, I sure do. I let my eye glass store talk me into plastic lenses with anti glare and anti scratch coatings (again!!!) just because tempered glass lenses would have cost an additional 60 dollars.

I feel ripped off (again!!!) for being so stupid to fall for their marketing speak. The coatings are almost worthless. I have to be careful what to clean the lenses with; many cleaners just smear and streak. It's generally more difficult to remove smudges. The anti scratch coatings are a joke also. The coating simply can't stop scratching from occurring on the plastic.

Although plastic lenses are lighter and safer than tempered glass lenses there is no comparison when it comes down to optical performance. Besides, my prescription is so weak the lenses are not thick at all and have even been mistaken for faux, designer specs.

The next time I buy another pair of glasses it will be with REAL glass, not plastic and WITHOUT any coatings. I have owned three sets of eye glasses with glass lenses and with every pair the frames ended up failing before the lenses. Every pair of glasses I owned with plastic lenses, the lenses became very scratched before the frames gave out.
:)

Wow....I’m as blind as a bat. I’d been getting glass high index lenses for almost 30 years and even at that I wouldn’t wear them out in public. This past year I got my first pair of PLASTIC high index lenses and they are easily the best pair of glasses I’ve ever owned. If you have a real weak prescription glass is the only way to go for sure. Just about bulletproof. With glass, I always saw the frames fail before the lenses. However, being as blind as I am glass started getting too damn heavy with my prescription and my friend who makes them for me said that plastic high index has finally caught up with glass. I’ve always just got the coatings and have never had a problem, but I do know what you’re saying....there seems to be some sort of ‘film’ that doesn’t lift off and just smears but I guess I’ve been so happy to not be wearing veritable coke bottles that I never really thought anything about it until you mentioned it. I can’t imagine any coating can aid in reducing scratching but what do I know. I have not noticed these plastic lenses being any less durable than the glass but I am every bit as careful with them. Dropping glasses on ceramic tile floors is not good. I’ve done it twice and the floor won both times. Glasses with HI lenses are about the price of SS AWs. You don’t want to be updating every year. S

I like my glasses. I'm known for my Prada frames, and I don't think I look good without my glasses. Plus I can't stand putting eyedrops in, much less contacts:D

Don

Like anything....you learn to get used to it. I’ve been wearing contacts over 40 years ( yeah, they had contacts back then, so you can all hold the jokes)
Your eye doesn’t feel much different than touching a ping pong ball, but when you pop them in you barely make contact with them.
I just can’t imagine living without them but if you have a real, real weak prescription why bother at all. I just wish I could wear glasses full time.
Not gonna happen. S

I got lasik surgery and had anti glare installed right on my eyeballs. You have to re-apply once a year but its totally worth it.

You have to go back for an annual refresh? Was that some kind of actual coating or is the correction not holding? I had Lasik 4 (?) years ago now and haven't seen the place that did the procedure since...

No I was just kidding around. My eyes are still perfect.

As the title says, have any of you had an issue with antiglare coatings on your glasses? I got new lenses in my glasses a few months ago, and the sales person at Pearl Vision conned my Mom and I into getting the damn coating.

Over the past few months, I have noticed that after about an hour of wearing the glasses, that a greasy "film" builds up on the glasses. The eyeglass cleaner doesn't even remove the grease, I have to resort to using water, and a few times, I've even had to use iKlear on them, because water didn't even work :)eek:).

Also, I've noticed that these lenses are scratching really easily. I never have had this problem with my other glasses (been wearing glasses since I was 7), and these were the first pair that I've actually kept in the case at night. I'm really ticked about this, because we paid $100 extra for the coating, and they've just been a pain in the @$$.

Does anyone else have an issue with antiglare coatings on their glasses? I'm just curious if I just got a bad set of lenses.

[doublepost=1544040355][/doublepost]Yes!!!! I bought a new pair two years ago. They were always foggy and cery hard to clean. So I had them take off the coating. So a few months ago I got new glasses. Specifically said NO anti glare! They put it on anyways. So now they are totally unwearable. The gal at the Dr office said I heat glazed them. Which I never had them near any source of heat ever. I dropped them off yesterday so will see what happens. I hate the anti glare!

Was it Crizal from Essilor the anti glare?
