I used to upgrade every model except the 5. So right now I still rock the 4S. I'm still disappointed with the 5S and don't plan on getting one because last friday I purchased my Samsung Galaxy S 4 (and I'm glad I made the switch).

Now after using the Samsung G S 4, and looking back at my iphone 4S, it makes the 4S sooooo tiny. My eyes are now used to the big screen.

Therefore, I will hold off and wait till Apple comes out with a slightly bigger screen (well not just taller, but also wider), so hopefully the iPhone 6 will accomplish that.

Waiting

Love my 4S and I'm going to run it into the ground before I look for my next phone. Realistically the battery will start to be a giving poor performance in 3-4 months, then I will consider an upgrade based on what is out there. 5S is a strong candidate right now, but who knows what the next few months will bring from competition.

As usual post-announcement I'm tempted to hand over my monies for the iPhone, but I'll pass.

Like the 5, I think the 5S is gorgeous and definitely well done. The beef is going to be that after a month or two admiring the design and clean lines, I'm just going to get a bit bored because fundamentally iOS7 isn't a radical overhaul.

Also to be honest my 4S is still going strong. An upgrade at this point will have to be because I want massive change.

I'm on the S cycle also.

I'm not going to buy the 5S. There just isn't enough for me. Instead, I'm going to upgrade my 4S to iOS7. If that's enough to amuse me until the 6 comes along, then fine. Otherwise, I might go over to the dark side for one cycle.

Did you know they have flash drives now that connect wirelessly to wifi devices?

Just curious how that would work with iOS which is heavily dependent on internal storage vs external storage? Also, what are some examples of these devices.

And I am being serious. If I could put music, movies, etc on a wifi flash drive that i can seamlessly connect to on a trip, in my car, etc, that just may solve the whole problem. I just don;t see how that can work in Apple's ecosystem.

I have no iPhone 4s but the iPhone 4 which is nearly 2 years and it gets very eager to change but I would like to wait to see the next iPhone (probably 6) becomes.

I think like this:

Would argue that both approaches have their advantages.
If you buy 3, 4, 5, etc., you get the latest news and probably a new design.
If you buy the S-versions, you get a slightly refined version where any deficiencies are removed, and more performance.

The 5S is a solid upgrade and as big as the other upgrades from 3G/4>S IMO. Also we have ios7 with it as well! The 5C was the disappointment IMO.

My 4S is staying with me. Works perfectly and I don't need the enhancements on the 5 or 5S.
I am worried how iOS7 will run on it though.

Will get the 5s because I need to change cariers since I moved into an area that my current one doesn't service. My contract is up in early Oct so I'm OK with that.
Not sure if I would otherwise - I say that just like I said I wasn't buying an iPad MINI but did on day 1 - so I need a new toy although other one is working fine in areas where I get good coverage.

I'm in this camp as well. AT&T sucks at my house. So I either go to Verizon or T-Mobile. While I could make the 4S work on T-Mobile (Houston is re-farmed), everything I've read says you have a better experience with the updated hardware. So I'll be upgrading. The question for me is just C vs. S. I think Touch ID is a gimmick, just like Siri is. And I don't think the camera and speed improvements justify the extra $100.

The only thing that really has me considering the S is the M7 chip, believe it or not. I want to know more about it and see what apps will be able to do with it. Will that Nike app be as good as having a Fuel Band? Somehow I doubt it, but who knows. My contract is up in mid-October, so there will be some time for more information to come out before I decide.

Number changes feel better initially. S revisions feel better day to day. I think it's a question of personality. Are you a short term guy or a long term guy?

I would say something in between. When I signed for two year-ago connection for so I took 4th for I thought it a little too much money to pay a month for me who do not have unlimited money.

Certainly new stuff, cars, appliances, etc. will all the time and yes, I understand all the people who can afford to put their money on acquiring the latest model but unfortunately that option is not so good for the environment so I want to have the most long-term option.

Now I'm speculating but just like the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 models so got bigger screens and resolution than before. Sure it's advantage that the phone is not too big so it will not fit in your pocket. I guess it will be fashionable with the next iPhone?

I'll make the jump. I don't mind being on the "s" versions of the upgrades. I love my 4s, but I've waited two years and feel the upgrade will be fresh and new for myself.

I agree with some about the 128gb, but I use spotify so I'm okay with a 32/64gb.

Well, after reading this post, I guess I'll get some benefit from this 5S release, while I wait for a bigger screen 6 (hopefully), as I'm not personally interested in the 5S itself. I'm looking to replace my daughter's recently lost 4S, and it sounds like there's going to be an abundance of them hitting the market as everyone on the 4S cycle upgrades to a 5S!

If anyone has one in good condition in the Detroit area and plans to get rid of theirs, and wants to avoid eBay/Paypal fees and Craigslist hassles, PM me. :D

I'm sticking with the 4S because I still like the size and want to get off the "S" cycle. But I can't imagine many 4S owners are like me. The vast majority will want to take full advantage of the new technologies in the 5S, the bigger screen size, the vastly faster processor, the incredible camera technology and the fingerprint scanner.

Screen size is one of the reasons I'm still on the 4S as well. It really is a great size and dislike the 4 inch. it's too tall. sucks that there is no 3.5 anymore

I do have iTunes Match however, and about 48GB of my space is taken up by music, so maybe I can figure out how I'm supposed to use it correctly. I'd rather not have to do that though.
Just delete all the music on your phone. You'll still be able to listen any song in your library via iTunes Match, so you don't need them on your phone.

You just stream or download the songs and playlists as you need them. If you know you want a full playlist available to you, just download it when connected to wifi (or stream it if you have enough data available... each song is about 5MB, give or take, right? so it's not that much data we're talking about).

Anyway, to the OP's question... I got the 4S two years ago. Didn't feel envy when the 5 came out one year ago. Now that I'm ready for the upgrade, I'll probably get the 5S.

When the so-called "be-all-end-all" iPhone 6 comes out in next year, I'll worry about that then. ;)

Just curious, why do you need a bigger screen, if you don't mind me asking? (Honestly just curious.)

I like to use my iPhone for word processing with pages. A larger screen would allow me to view more text at the same time.

Sort of similar to you. I'm on the 4 and like the size, but it is starting to freeze and is getting really slow. I want a white one (got it before they brought out the white) but I don't really want to get onto the "S" cycle. But then I like the gold and don't see it making it into the 6; I remember what happened to the gold iPod mini.

I won't be upgrading - which is disappointing.

I was thinking I might not if they didn't address the profit-based poor anodization, but it appears they may have done - which is great if proven true.

I didn't for one second think they wouldn't increase the capacity to 128GB.

Turns out that's the factor which means I don't purchase the 5S.

It's also frustrating in that I've always made more selling my good condition old phones than it costs for the down payment on the top range new model.

By the time the 6 rolls around that'll no longer be the case.

There'd better be 128GB in that release

No qualms about upgrading here. Yes, I use my full 64 GB, but I also carry around a lot of excess stuff I don't really need, simply because I have the space to store it for that 1 in 1,000,000 chance I might need or want it (most of the movies I have stored fit this bill).

The 5S is a huge improvement over the 4S otherwise, and of course, it offers LTE that the 4S does not have.

Yes. Very much on the fence. The 5s is nice but honestly from the 4S I feel as though the 5c is a better deal for me personally. I don't use the camera to often. I do not use passwords therefore would not use the fingerprint scanner. The 5c just for some reason has me wanting it. Maybe its the color or the disappointment I feel after stepping back to think about how little the 5s actually has.

Anyone considering the 5c?

Spoke with my parents and shockingly they won't be upgrading. They were hoping for a larger screen (which I told them wasn't happening). They don't need LTE and their phone works fine. Never use a passcode because there isn't anything vital on their phone so the fingerprint scanner isn't worth the move.

Pretty much decided to get Galaxy after many many years of Iphones. My latest 4S, love it, but I love new toys and even if I get 5S this is not new for me. I will just put all my apps, info from 4S to 5S and that's it. I want something NEW, something that i will be playing non-stop, looking for the new features, apps, searching google, forums for hidden features, etc. Iphone pretty much old news for me. Just my 2c. Also leaving myself an option, if i absolutely hate Galaxy I can always sell and get an Iphone.

4S owner. Frankly, my 4S doesn't feel "tired" enough to warrant an upgrade for me yet. The battery life is fine, the camera is fine, the speed is fine. Plus, I had planned on getting an updated Retina-equipped iPad mini this fall.

The hardest part will be putting up with 3G for another year...

my family all has 4s's, was really hoping the 5s would start at 32 gb, but i'll prolly upgrade everyone just cuz my brother and i are about to open a tmobile store, so i know i can upgrade next year w/no problems. I do like the 5s, just i'm thinking the 6 will be a more significant upgrade (screen size, nfc, bigger battery, 32 gb). i already plan on getting the ipad 5 and ipad mini 2 when it comes out.
