How did ya'll play against Texas in a actual big game.

We were actually beating them handily until inspired play by Vince Young and some interesting referee calls caused us to barely lose. That game featured two of the best teams of all time going at it. It's unfortunate we lost, but I'm over it. At least we made the game.

Alabama’s 12 National Championships Debunked

A friend of mine recently e-mailed me this article about Alabama’s so called 12 national championships............

12 National Championships? … The Real Story

I just wanted to clear up a few misconceptions about Alabama’s claim to 12 national championships based on fact rather than bias. Credit is given where credit is due. To clear up confusion, the word retroactive means they went back in time to award the championship.

‘TWELVE’ national championships is fraudulent, nothing but pure bunk ginned up by the SID Department. Here’s a rundown:

1925 National Championship- Alabama claims they share this one with Dartmouth. Who awarded the NC? Houlgate and Helms. Houlgate started his system in 1927. So Bama won their 1925 NC using a formula that didn’t exist until 1927? Helms Athletic Foundation started in 1941. Another incredible retroactive NC.

The Associated Press Poll has been active since 1936. The AP took their final poll prior to bowl games from 1936 – 1964 and in 1966 and 1967. They took their final poll after the bowl games in 1965 and from 1968 – Current.

1926 National Championship- Alabama claims they share this one with 3 other teams with equal or better records! Once again it is the Helms Athletic Foundation in 1941 that awards it!

1930 National Championship- The Davis poll says that Bama tied Notre Dame for NC this year. This was the only one to award it to Bama. Notre Dame was named NC in 6 polls! Parke Davis is another retroactive system! He (an individual, not an organization) did his in 1933!

1934 National Championship- Alabama says they share this with two other teams. The awarders are Dunkel, Williamson, and Football Thesaurus. Dunkel was an individual who came up with his own system. Williamson was a geologist who came up with his own system. Football Thesaurus first appeared in 1946!

1941 National Championship- This is a complete joke. The AP ranked Alabama 20th in the nation with 14 teams with better records in the top 20. Once again it is the Football Thesaurus that retroactively awards it. Alabama finished 3rd in the SEC that year. Mississippi State won the SEC title..yet Bama claims a National title!

1961 National Championship- Finally a legitimate NC. .

1964 National Championship- While the AP did award the NC to Bama (10-1-0), Arkansas had the better record, 11-0. Alabama played Texas in their bowl and LOST. The AP final poll was before the bowl.

1965 National Championship- The AP gave this to Bama. That year there were three teams with better records than Bama. Bama 9-1-1, Michigan St 10-1-0, Arkansas 10-1-0, Nebraska 10-1-0.

1973 National Championship- AP puts Bama 4th after their bowl game loss. Bama claims a NC from the UPI poll that was taken before they met Notre Dame in the bowl game and lost. There were 3 teams with better records than Bama that year. The embarrassment of naming Alabama number one caused the UPI to name champions after bowl games. Yet Bammer has no shame in claiming it of course.

1978 National Championship- AP gives this to Alabama(11-1-0) even though USC (12-1-0) had the better record Guess who Alabama lost to that year? USC!!!!!!!!!. UPI gave the NC to USC.

1979 National Championship- Their second legitimate NC. Their first Unanimous NC.

1992 National Championship- Their third legitimate NC. Their second Unanimous NC.

You can see why people ridicule Bama fans when they talk about 12 NCs. The early ones were awarded by individuals years after the games were played. These weren’t consensus polls but NCs awarded by people that had their own formula for determining champions. Some NCs were given before bowl games that Bama lost. Using Alabama logic, Auburn could claim four national championships. But when Bammers brag they like to say they have twelve and Auburn has one. How silly. The NCAA recognizes 6 NCs for Bama and there are only two NCs that Bama has unanimously. You can’t find an Auburn site claiming four national championships but there are plenty Bama sites claiming twelve.

This is one of the reasons Bama fans get on my nerves. It's like a parrot or something. "Squak! 12 National titles!" How about winning one this century, which at least USC has done. Geesh. I hate to break it, but Joe Bob's U Pick 'Em National Title doesn't really count.

BTW, Bama is basically tied with USC on MNCs (Mythical National Championships). And still behind Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Princeton, and Yale.

While your at it, go ahead and have the bcs thrown out for us. Who in their right minds created that? Your argument doesn't really stand up to much. I agree, there wasn't much competition back then. College football today is nearly as big as pro football. In fact, in the south it is bigger than pro football.

The only reason why I pulled out stats was bc badandy started with some stat of some sort. 12 titles and the fact that we still have a winning record against you guys should keep you guys quiet. There is no arguement. You can try but you really can't win. If you do, you really start dipping to Auburn status and that is bad. We have owned them in rivalries. If people want to bring up the past, which is history, that is fine. Bama brings alott to the table. Be prepared.

Just from a girls perspective.. but it sounds to me like jealousy runs among Alabama rivals.. Alabama is a great team, and even better with Saban.

Personally I think this conversation is WAY out of hand.. when someone asks if there are any Alabama fans out there, that does not mean, every other person in America who hates Alabama to spread their negativity about how they think their team is better.. I dont think that the thread starter meant for this to be an Alabama football team bashing thread.

Did you even read my whole comment?!??!? I never dished anything out.. I stated my honest opinion.. and on the level of Alabama fans.. at least when they have a bad year, their fans stick with them, unlike other teams fans. I never said you dished it out. I was just responding to your post about jealousy when in fact it seems most are simply dishing it back to some Bama fans here. Nothing really jealous about some people ribbing the Bama fans back.

As far as attendance, Bama does a good job packing their stadium as does several SEC schools. Nothing really seperates them from some others that pack over 100% of their stadium like Bama (UT, UGA, UF, Ark, Bama, LSU all averaged over 100% in '07...last year I have for %'s).

Let's see...USC has that kicking consultant, bought Reggie Bush's parents a house, the whole mess with the basketball team, and so far, no probation. Bama gets probation four times in 14 years, well within the "repeat offender" category, yet doesn't get much more than a slap on the wrist. (The Albert Means case excepted) Had one of the smaller schools in the conference done something like this, they would have gotten the death penalty. My point is the cash cows are allowed to get away with so much that would get lesser schools hammered. I really hate the NCAA.

Thats kinda why SMU got the death penalty. Alabama has gotten probation but nothing way to bad i mean the Textbooks, Alabama cant really be a dang babysitter for every student athlete.

Most BCS schools "cheat". And because of some of the asinine rules of the NCAA, ALL schools break rules. It's a matter of if the NCAA wants to bother investigating them and punishing the school for violating rules. Oh yeah, and said punishments will be completely arbitrary.

The reason for said cheating is because football is a major moneymaker. At many schools, football may be the only or one of the only money making sports. It's also why most of the BCS conference schools try anything to get 7 home games. Each home game represents a lot of income for the school. The SEC, for example, just signed a 15 year, $2.24 Billion contract. Yeah, other sports will the televised, but SEC football is the king. Any time you have that kind of money and exposure involved, combined with lax enforcement from the governing body, cheating will happen.

I echo what he said.

Everyone cheats to some extent, knowingly or not. There are definately obvious rules out there that people steer clear of, such as having assistants offer coaching advice and then not so obvious infractions such as the whole textbook issue. Alabama punished the guys when they found out, suspended them for 4 games or so and they even told on themselves to the NCAA. Who does that? Alabama is not going to get the death penalty over some textbook scandal. Neither will USC for giving Reggie Bush thousands of dollars. It's a crooked business that isn't run right. It is focused on dollar signs.

The truth of the matter is that the SEC is the cash cow of college football. It has been that way for awhile and will more than likely continue to be that way for awhile to come. People that aren't from the south just don't understand what college football means to southern people.

Oh, and to the Utah state fan, I really am sorry that you guys didn't get a chance to prove yourselves. That is why I cannon stand the BCS.
