my android phones have always used at least 1% per hour on standby. one of the reasons I m considering trying the iphone again as I hear standby times are much better

If you have AOD on that's about ok. Think AOD uses about 0.5% per hour.

Of course if you run a lots of background apps usage maybe more. My standby is about 1.2-1.5% per hour with AOD, smartthings monitoring, Tasker/Routines automations, IMs like FB messenger, Line, WhatsApp, Wechat, widgets, feeds, Google photo upload.

I do like my Pixel 3 XL, but thinking of seriously looking at the iPhone XS Max.

I still have my Pixel 2 XL, and to be honest, as cool and nice as my 3 XL is, it's not a massive upgrade from my 2 XL ( which I knew going into this ). But every time I'm at Best Buy and play with the XS Max, I'm just blown away by it.

I don't know why ? The full screen, near bezeless and no chin is a big factor. It just looks so darn good. And iOS just feels do fluid and smooth. And the gesture navigation seems neat and better than Android 9's pill.

When I hold the XS Max, it looks and feels like a future phone. When I'm on my Pixel 3 XL, it's nice, but doesn't feel very futuristic, seems like last year's phone with a big notch.

My only beef would be iOS. Can I get comfortable ? No themes, no customization. Will it be fast and lag free like stock Android ?

Is this correct about dual sim/esim implementation in xs?

If true then a really crappy implementation by apple. Those who use dual sim in android and plan to switch please take note.

- no dual LTE
- no dual number with sms
- no dual apps - one for each number.

Second day with my XR. It is way snapper than my Pixel 2 XL was. Zero lag and super smooth. And iOS handles memory management so much better. I was constantly having apps close on my Pixel. And it was far from smooth and lag free.

As far as I themes and customizing it's no big deal to me. I'm actually glad to not have it because I was wasting so much time always making changes. Which was the case when I was on Android the first time. With iOS I set it and forget it. In fact I'm using the same exact setup that I had on my 7 plus.

Great timing with this post as I am in KL

I have been sitting on the fence on should I buy a iPhone for a bit of fun and get the Mrs an Apple watch for jogging around KL central park :)

I popped in to Samsung early on in the week and the Physical Dual Sim Note 9 128GB is on special 400RM ($95) off) at only 3299RM ($790) and even cheaper is some online stores

Considering the newly released IPhones here are :

The XS64GB is 4999RM ($1197) the XS Max64GB 5399RM ($1293) the XR128GB 3849RM ($921) all including 6% tax

It makes even the cheap XR a poor buy on $ value alone  with no appreciable difference in 2nd hand value later

I had considered a HK version as a grey import mainly for physical dual sim but price hikes were daft with no warranty.

I was about to push the buy button until I checked the returns deal, there is none, no 14 days return grace period, even Singapore there is a 15-25% restocking fee and with no real Apple shops only Premium resellers. Plus as the guy notes in the video usual hang ups with not bought in country or even sometimes from that store Samsung service is likely better. Then I checked AppleCare there is none for iPhone.

Now with inferior dual sim noted in video  no AW LTE available  no 14 day trial  no Store  no AppleCare or AC+ XS Max $503 more and 64GB less, than a Note 9 even the XR is $131 more :rolleyes:

Someone is having a laugh at our possible expense, sure maybe in US/UK and a few other countries in Europe & AUS it may seem ok, but elsewhere :p:p:p:p:p

The max is not cheap in the UK and the note 9 is significantly cheaper here.

£899 for the 128GB note 9. The max starts at £1099 here which is the same price as the 512GB note 9. For 512GB the max costs £1449. Those are rrp prices for the note. That doesn’t even include any promotions or discounts. Even at rrp it’s significantly cheaper than the max.

In the UK you also get similar service for Apple as US so it can help a little bit but not £400 worth at the extreme given how feature rich and similar but different these phones are :)

I did not check Thailand but I expect similar pricing and not back in UK till next year sometime

I normally have last years flagship Samsung as a back-up but got a great trade on it so thought an iPhone would be fun for a change to compliment my S9+

The AW for the Mrs killed 2 birds with one stone, we both got new toys and the AW if it had cellular would of been nice for her morning jog around the park with less risk of the dreaded handbag/backpack snatchers as its almost a given where joggers phone is and so an easy target

PS Nothing to do with money/loss, they drag you and your bag down the street as they typically snatch on motorbikes

I went from my Pixel 2 XL I had for a very long time ( 10 months ) which for me is super long for keeping a smartphone. But I was very happy and comfortable with it. Stock rooted Android is just so good to me.

I am now on the Pixel 3 XL, which I like, but it's more of a side grade from my 2 XL or feels like a Pixel 2 XL part 2.

But kind of itching for something different, and the XS Max intrigues me, but iOS ? Ugh iOS.

Last iPhone I had was the iPhone 7 Plus and it was ok, but iOS was painful. I had it maybe 4 months, before running back to a new Nexus 6P.

But iOS 12 seems better compared to iOS 10 on that 7 Plus, she the new gesture navigation.

So...

iOS is still iOS. I'm still on the 7 plus and it still runs the same as the day I purchased it while now on iOS12. But if you found it painful to use nothing has changed other than gaining face ID and gestures on X series.

I didn't switch to the Xs line, but I did just switch to an iPhone X. I got it at a discount and I felt like it was the best deal for me. My previous phones were original iPhone, 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s plus, Galaxy S7, Note 8, now the iPhone X. I'm enjoying the X so far. I missed iMessage and, weirdly, the mute switch. I will miss some things on Android I’m sure. I enjoyed the Android experience for the last 2 years, but I am ready to have an iPhone again.
