Yeah thats one of the big drawbacks. I do wish the Apple Watch like the new Android watches had a always on feature and some real watch faces like Android has, I still to this day do not see why Apple either does not open up watch faces to developers or come out with some really nice ones, The Hermes watch face is slick, so it shows they can make a decent face.

The ONLY time my Apple watch disconnects is when it is out of range and there is no wifi.

I like how my Watch moves seamlessly between BT and WiFi when walking around. I also like that it always reconnects to my phone as soon as I am back in range.

My non-technical wife tried the Pebble Watch with her iPhone for a couple of days and it was constantly disconnecting, as well. It was "on loan" from my son, so she returned it because it was not reliable enough for her to use.

She has had her Gold Watch Sport for three weeks and she loves it. No disconnects, no missed notifications, she can take calls on it, send and receive texts, and it has her calendar right on the Watch face. For her, it just works and that is saying a lot coming from a non-techie type.

Happy wife, happy life! :D

I think you just answered your own question.
If Apple open up allow face app, there will not be any incentive for other high end fashion company to create Hermes edition like watch in the future. Because everyone could create a fake watch face like real one from fashion company.
Apple want to continue make fashion statement with AW, because fashion sells. Just look at women's well know brand handbag and shoes, they sell for high thousands, with material probably cost low hundreds.
Getting revenue from technical feature improvement of product is nothing compare with able to partner with fashion brand and sell name/design.

Bought the Moto 360 2nd to go with my nexus 6 . Nice watch , battery much better then Apple Watch . Got real irritated with Apple for a bit and switched to android . Thought you could not make calls with any watch as Motorola 2nd version had no speaker and could not make calls .
Bought my wife the new Apple Watch to go with her iPhone . Was shocked to see I could make calls with it . Also a lot more customizing with the Apple Watch .
Next day cancelled my android service and bought the new iPhone and Apple Watch . Don't get me wrong though the android phone and watch are quite nice . I even feel that latest android slightly smoother then iOS 9 on latest iPhone . I do though get far better battery life on the iPhone .
What surprises me though is the battery life on the Apple Watch well suks a bit . Stand by time is horrible . Should barely use any battery in stand by . Even air plane mode .
Just my 2cents worth from owning both . Considering everything I prefer the iPhone , Apple Watch combo

Shocked about the Apple Watch Battery, I put mine on at 7am and at midnight when I put it on the charger I am at 40-50% still, in fact some days I go 2 days without charging depending on how much I look look at the time, etc.

Let me revise that a little . After a lot of settings adjusting I do get good battery life now . Best was 3 days off charger with 3 hours of use . But I have to turn off everything related to fitness tracking and heart rate monitor . Have to make sure I'm not connected to iCloud . If those are on I go through 10% battery in 1 1/2 hours . That's with out turning on the screen even one time . Stand by time needs a lot of improvement. But all in all was enough for me to switch back to Apple again .
Drn you Apple and your products :) they just had to find a way to get me back

I went to Best Buy last week and played with the watches on their Android Wear display. They had the Hauwei, Moto 360 V2, Asus Zenwatch 2 and the LG Urbane. Of those, the Huawei won because of the AMOLED display. The display is flat out gorgeous!

BUT... The functionality is limited to pretty much just notifications with IOS (for now). there are some built in apps and built in watch faces but thrid party apps and faces won't work on IOS. I ended up with an Apple Watch (SB with BSB) because the integration with IOS is pretty much seamless. I would prefer a round watch, but until one shows up with better integration I'm happy with the AW.

Thats what drew me in was the Huawai display and faces and the always on feature was beautiful, but the needing to leave the app running on the phone killed it for me

I don't know why you guys are saying the app needs to be running to work. I don't leave the app running and LG Urbane LTE 2nd Edition works just fine.

It is connected to the phone via BT or using the LTE connection? Also, I believe that the app can be in the background on the phone if you have Background App Refresh enabled for that app. Maybe someone with an Android Wear watch can confirm that.

Yes, it just had to be running in the background.

When I say running I mean I would of course have to launch the App then I can click the home button to take it off the screen but it would have to be running in the background, and if I swipe up on the app to close it out, The watch would loose connection, so in that sense you have to keep it running

That's unusual. I don't have the app running in the background to have it remain connected to the phone. I tested it by turning my cell signal off on the watch and made sure the Android Wear app is not running in the background. No problems staying connected. What kind of watch did you have again?

The one I bought was the Hauwai but the Urbane 2nd edition works off cell signal as well so it is not dependent on the phone like other Android Wear watches and the Apple Watch

Yeah, but it was discontinued because of a hardware issue. I wonder if they will try again?

One really big advantage Apple has over any other smart watch that works with the iPhone is that the Apple watch app itself is baked into iOS and runs as a System app and cannot be closed and will always stay open.

I had connectivity issues once in a while when I had a Pebble watch because the App would go idle or get closed by iOS eventually. My Apple watch is always connected and immediately reconnects if a connection is lost.

Can the LTE urbane get access to texts, and Google now cards over the network?

If that is the case I am dumping my AW

Yes but the LG Watch Urbane LTE 2nd Edition is no longer available, unfortunately. You may be able to find one on eBay at a hefty price.

Anyone else buy Hauwai or any other Android wear watch yet?

I have the Huawei watch for a month now and I love it. Over 50 watch faces and an always on display that looks different for every watch face. The watch feels and looks like a classic watch, the main reason why I choose for the Huawei watch. On iOS the functionality is pretty basic but it does the job sending notifications, got some basic apps and OK google. OK google works great in my native language and provides a lot of information.

Happy Huawei watch user.

How did you get additional faces? The Android Wear app does not support Google Play on iOS and all the articles Ive read say you cant get new faces when on iOS? When I had mine I couldn't get more faces either.

I have an Android phone (Nexus 5x) in addition to my iPhone so I'll probably get an Android wear at some point. Right now I'm leaning towards the Zenwatch 2. Inexpensive, yet decent looking and functional.

In the Android Wear app on iPhone there are some extra faces you could download, just not as many as if you were on Android.

I have a a Galaxy S6 for work along with my personal iPhone 6, and I paired the Zenwatch 2 I had with the Galaxy for part of the day to see the better watch faces and and other things compared to using it with my iPhone. I liked the additional watch faces and functionality, but my work cell barely gets used as it is so the Apple Watch made more sense in my case. And switching it between using it with the iPhone vs Android whenever I wanted meant I had to reset the watch and setup like new each time.

I saw the app had like 3 or 4 but nothing really nice but on the iPhone you can't download more which sucked

Oh thats weird, I was able to download more from the Android Wear app on iOS. Maybe the extra faces has to do with the watch paired with the phone. There wasn't anything that looked good like on the Android side of things but there were about 9 or so sets you could download. Some had more than one in each. I ended up uninstalling them all and used one of the stock ones while I had the Zenwatch 2.

Here's an overview of all the watch faces on the Huawei watch running the Android wear app on iOS:

I've got more watch faces right now but most of them are in the video.
