I have a feeling that it might be unusual for Apple to update multiple Macs at the same event, but does anyone think Apple might bring Polaris graphics and TB3/USB-C to the iMac line in June?

If there is a Mac that needs the newest generation of graphics the most, it is the Mac that has a 5k monitor. It also seems like it would be relatively simple to bring the iMac line current with modern connection standards via an update to TB3.

Anyone have thoughts on the probability of Apple updating the iMac at all at WWDC? I know that the MacBook Pros most certainly must be getting one. Would an iMac update as well be asking too much?

I doubt both the iMac and MacBook Pro will be updated at the same time. It will probably happen the same way it did in 2012 with the MacBook Pro at WWDC and an iMac update at a separate event in the fall.

Slim to none. the 27" inch is already on Skylake and there's little motivation for Apple to rollout an update on the 21" iMac halfway through its life cycle.

I hate to say this, but I sure hope not. I just ordered mine and I'm waiting on it now. I will however say that something very suspect has occurred indicative of a refresh. My order for no apparent reason at all has been delayed a week. I ordered the 5k with all maxed out CTO specs. I'm a little concerned because you sometimes see these weird delays when a refresh is looming.

Unlikely. But an outside chance of the 4K jumping to Skylake early/late

The MBP is due for an update first, so I'm fairly confident I'll be getting a Mid 2016 MBP in time for my birthday in July.
I think we will see Polaris graphics and TB3/USBC on the MBP first, then the iMac in Late 2016.

(Last time there was a Mid year iMac was 2014)

Well I've ordered the exact same configuration as you have (with 32GB RAM from Amazon) on 26/4/16 here in the UK and there was no delay in my order whatsoever. In fact it's already been dispatched (from Ireland I believe) and it's winging it's way to the UK as I type this. Estimated day of delivery is 3/5/16 which is exactly a week from order. It probably would have been here sooner but it is a national holiday here on the 2/5/16 so no courier service.

I hope they don't until the new GPUs are ready.
If you mean the AMD GPUs, then yeah, but those will only be for the 5k machines, as Apple dropped the dGPU on the 21" and Intel has the faster iGPUs on Skylake at this point (AFAIK)

they've done multiple mac update before, at wwdc 2012 and 2013. since cpu kabylake updates we have to wait until 2017, apple must updates the 21.5" with skylake, ddr4 ram, and usb-c, and 27" same ddr4 ram usb-c and the new dGPU otherwise we will be looking for no updates until 2017

Yes, was talking about the 5k machines.

i dont see no october event anymore, if no ipads or macbook pros are updated too, unless apple dont want another 1h event this year

:(I really wish someone knew definitively whether there would be a refresh at WWDC.
Someone does know (T. Cook) He's just not saying. Hold off if you're really wanting to see an update.

I don't see Apple refreshing the 5k machines this summer just for the GPU

Tim sure does, lol. I hope you're right. Of course on the other hand I'd really like to see more powerful GPUs for the 5k though. I guess if they do release new ones at WWDC I can just sell the one I have coming and cough up the difference for a new one...

they need to upgrade the 5k imac too even if it will be silent update. new dgpu, tb3 usb-c, ddr4 ram

I've been wrong plenty of times, so take what I say with a grain of salt ;)

AMD has been somewhat mum on its Polaris GPUs stating that it will be out before the back to school season (which unofficially starts in July), so that does fit Apple's June time frame but I'm a bit skeptical of Apple updating the iMac just for the GPU right now.

Like I said I've been wrong plenty of times ;)

otherwise we are looking for 2 years cycle since intel will no longer be at tick tock

I'd probably shoot myself in the face, because I just bought one last month...

The chance of an iMac refresh is very small, even if the MacBook Pros and Mac Pros get USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 and new GPUs. I could be wrong, but I just don't see one happening before the fall, at which time the iMac may even get a redesign.

The current 5K iMacs are great Macs, and no one on this thread should feel buyer's remorse even if they are updated at WWDC.

I don't expect the 27" to get anything other than USB-C (and maybe TB3) for the next refresh, which I do not expect to happen before the fall.

I do expect the 21" to get Skylake and USB-C, also in a fall refresh.

Even if Kaby Lake and Polaris are ready and in volume production by fall (and I am skeptical of both), I don't see them in a fall refresh.

There will be a new Mac Pro at the end of the year. The question is if the want to overshadow that with a new Imac 5k.
They probably want to have the new Mac pro on center stage, with its 10 core intel i7 and and AMD Polaris or Vega GPU with HBM2.
They might choose release a new iMac at WWDC so both the Imac and the new Mac pro get the attention they want it to get. But they could also push the Imac update further into 2017 of course. Time will tell.

Hey everybody.

What do you think the chances are for new iMacs at the upcoming WWDC??????
Would it be wise to invest in an iMac now or should I wait it out patiently?

What would you advice me to do?
