I've got a 1st gen, its jailbroken and I honestly could wait for the 4, but I don't see it having too many innovative upgrades from the 3, so I ordered a 3.

The crashing is absolutely terrible by the way as everyone has said. I actually have switched to a different browser to avoid it.

strangely enough, according to all the posts, my Safari crashes very rarely. I am writing on the iPad right now and normally have a handful of tabs open. Safari is a little sluggish, but its not too bad to be really annoying.

Im on a first gen, and holding off an upgrade one more year. Im excited about the new screen, but I wanted Siri and Im a little dissapointed it wasnt included. Also, no LTE for Europe was a let-down. Its a pita, cos I want that hi-res screen badly, but ill try and resist the urge.

You're lucky, which iOS are you on? 5.1? On 5.0.1 I can't do over 3 tabs.

I was getting crashes on mine sometimes with 1 tab. My other one seems pretty decent and doesn't crash very often. Same apps, everything. I don't get it.

Mine used to crash lots on 5.0.1, but since upgrading to 5.1 the issue seems to have gone away. 5.1 seems to be a bit better at handling memory, too, as I've had less apps crash in general.

As tempting as it is to upgrade, I'm going to hang on until the next revision. The apps that I use ( Pages, Reeder, DayOne, Prompt, StreamToMe, Elements ) are still eminently usable ( though oddly Movies has become somewhat laggy.... ), and I'm still hoping for a 128GB model next time around....

I'm content w/ my iPad 1 for the moment. I will however upgrade to the New iPad eventually this year as I read & sketch a lot on my iPad & the new display will be nice. But, I'm not in any hurry. With the exception of the new display, my iPad 1 does everything I need it to do with no noticeable difference in performance next to a 2 or New version.

I upgraded to the new iPad from my iPad 1. I just couldn't take how slow it was anymore. It got to the point where I only used it every Tuesday for my etextbooks in class and note taking. The other 6 days of the week it just sat on my desk. Even for light web browsing, I much preferred my MacBook because safari on the iPad 1 was unbearable for me. That checkerboard pattern alone was enough to discourage me from using it. This new iPad just feels amazing in every way, it's very fast and the screen is amazing. I didn't think the iPad 1 was too heavy when I had it, the new iPad is definitely much more pleasant to hold. All in all, it was worth every penny to upgrade. I could never go back to the original iPad now, it's just too outdated for my taste.

Hmm, you are either pulling this from your ;) or never bothered to upgrade past iOS 4 because there has been no checkerboarding since at least iOS 5. iPad on iOS 5.1 is great.

I had an iPad 1 until yesterday, when I gave it to my Dad - I have been perfectly happy with it despite the occasional Safari crash due to low memory conditions.

Now I am ready to order an iPad 3 and benefit from the additional memory, greater speed and retina display...in any case, I am sure my Dad will continue to love the original iPad as much as I did..!

Honestly, I don't have any ipad. I'd probably not upgrade if I had a 2 but if I had the money I would if I had a 1. It seems from what I read the 1 is getting slow if you want to do stuff like games and such which I know would be a big part of me using the tablet (and so many complaints about lack of RAM... which I can see in my iphone 4 so definitely wouldn't want to go to an iPad 1 when I am already being slightly annoyed at my iPhone 4).

I am being handed down a 2 and I'm glad it's a 2 and not a 1 (the 2 seems to have added in the basic essentials really. But that's Apple for you, the first generation always seems to be missing some big stuff).

- I still have the original iPad, but i don't use it anymore because it's much slower then The New iPad... I kept it because i like the design, lol.

:D

I upgraded from the ipad1 to the ipad3.

I was unhappy with the performance of the ipad1 with ios5, but I still used it anyway.

But now that I have used the ipad3, it is painful to go back to the ipad1 to use something as basic as safari. Too slow.
You have Internet issues, not iPad1 issues.

I have the first generation iPad (with 3G) and use it daily. I must say that it would be nice to have some more performance but I can't say that my iPad feels irritatingly slow. It would be nice to upgrade (like most here Im a sucker for new shiny apple stuff) but can't justify the cost right now.

Funny how I love my iPad but still wan't to throw it out :)

You're not a sucker or you'd have it.

I own the original and the 2.

Yes, the original iPad is slow..... At loading apps but once it's loaded, performance is the same unless you are playing graphic intense games that require a lot of computations.

For general use and most games, the original iPad works as fast as newer iPads other than the 1-3 second delayed load time.

I believe apple hasn't added a 128gb -not saying they won't- because of the price. A 128gb would more likely than not cost over a $100 price bump, and with LTE added onto that, it gets to MacBook prices, which they don't want people to jump for because they release versions if that much more rarely, less profit.

I was a happy iPad1 owner, but after getting the New iPad, I only want to say this: You guys really don't know what you're missing. :D

The New iPad is really that awesome, and I really think it's worth every penny.

I have no reason to pull it out of my ass. It was one of my main reasons for upgrading to the new iPad. And you're talking to somebody who always keeps the software up to date. Yes you're right there was no checkerboard in ios 5, they replaced it with white space instead. It's still slow as balls and I would rather use a Mac for web browsing than a first gen iPad.

Agreed. The new one blows the first gen out of the water. If I had the iPad 2 I likely would not have upgraded, although the screen really is gorgeous.

That 1-3 (usually 3) seconds makes a huge difference in the user experience.

I still have, and use daily, an original iPad bought shortly after release.

I open Safari every day with four tabs and have never had a crash, regardless of what flavour of IOS running.

Today I happened into a store which had some of the new iPads available to try. So I did.

Yes, the display is better than mine and is quite impressive. But, to be quite honest, after reading the massed hysteria in these forums, I expected a lot more. I am somewhat at a loss to understand people who would want to watch HD movies on a retina display, on a tablet. I watch mine on a 42" Plasma HD TV with full theatre sound.

So my answer is - No. I will not upgrade something which does everything I want it to do. Though I can fully appreciate why others, who need the better display, would do so.

I purchased my iPad 1 64GB for cheap ($200) Christmas 2010 - I love the iPad. However, I dropped it a few months back and it has no resell value at all. Therefore, it would a lot to replace it with an iPad 3.

I wish I had an iPad 3 - but my use of it would constitute a waste of money.
