I've had the SGP Ultra Crystal as well as the Power Support Crystal. Power Support is much better, don't waste your time with the SGP. SGP is much thinner and less durable and harder to put on perfectly. I had a Power Support on my 3GS for over 18 months and not a single scratch. The best.

I just realized tonight that my wife's 2 1/2 year old iPod Touch has had a Power Support crystal on it from day one. It looks the same as the day I applied it, no scratches at all.

Honestly I can't tell the difference between the .50 cent ones I got off amazon and the power support my gf has. IMO, maybe I just have bad eyes...

The rainbow effect

Plus the durability. No way is the Monoprice $.50 screen protector going to be scratch free in 2 years. The Power Support might. Even if the PS lasts a year, that's a lot more convenient than having replace a worn protector every few months.

I just ordered the clear and matte protectors for my iphone and they should be arriving soon. I ordered 3 of each and the total came out to only $5 which has me very happy :)

I'm having a hard time understanding how $15 for 2 screen protectors is expensive to protect a screen on a $600 phone. That's inexpensive IMO.

For the record I have had the following screen protectors on my 4S:

Case logic clear that came with a case.
SGP Ultra Optics
3M Natural View (clear protector)
Power Support Crystal

The Power Support is by far my favorite.

In this economy, when people are still losing jobs, and all they can find is $14,000/yr. when they were making $60,000/yr. True story. It's expensive. Some have to cut corners just to afford the iPhone.

That's like saying, "I have to live in a trailer home so I can drive my Ferrari."

If you can afford the iPhone and the $80+/month plan that goes along with it, then you can afford a $15 screen protector. C'mon...

To me it's moreso the concept that I KNOW a screen shield is made for mere pennies and they are charging $15 for it. I can moreso justify buying an entire phone wrap with sides, back, and front (2 full sets) for $15 but 2 front shields for $15 is just crazy IMO.

But you're ok with the difference in material cost versus what you pay for the iPhone? Seems completely arbitrary. How do you buy anything considering that all products cost much more than just the cost of materials?

Also, citation? Are you asserting that all screen protectors only cost pennies?

I would say roughly yes. It's a tiny piece of material that does not cost $10+ to make and package.

PowerSupport screen shields are made in Japan. SGP stuff is made in China.

That's why PS is a bit more expensive but you're getting premium stuff.

The PS tend to be thicker due to all the layers they add for the best clarity and like scatch/scuff resistance and stuff.

Japan/china/Korea. Same ****

Is this a joke? Do you need a Geography and World Economics lesson? I hope you were kidding with this. This might, possibly, be the dumbest statement I've ever read on here, or anywhere else.

I read the Japan/China/Korea remark differently...

as a testament to the quality of Korean and Chinese production.

It certainly wasn't a geography answer in a Jeopardy quiz!

IMO matte protectors (with the exception of SGP Ultra Optics) degrade the retina display significantly.

I see no rainbow effect at all with the Power Support Crystal.

I don't get this, what is degraded?

I use a matte power support protector and i think the display looks great, even better than stock as the screen isn't reflecting anything.

The retina display is known for it's pixel per inch, no? How could a screen protector (of any kind) make that into something else? That's what i don't get..

Do a side by side. The colors are severely degraded with the matte.

It may seem obvious to some, but it's a matte protector! Would you really expect the screen to be equal to without a protector especially a matte finish? :)

I think the colors are great and true to life with the protector just as much as without a protector, only thing i can notice is that it's a matte finish, i had a side by side before i got a power support and that's also why i decided to get one, besides it is super easy to clean off and feels good :)

However, the point is, it's not degrading any retina display, retina is simply a name for apples high pixel per inch display and not the colors itself or how they are shown. If that would be the case, there wouldn't be different panels for different iPhone 4/4S some are neutral some a yellowish and some are in-between, just saying it's nothing with retina..

Here's a simple solution......

Make one yourself  If it's so cheap and easy then go for it man.

You have to understand that there's more than the mere material that goes into making a screen protector. That and companies don't make a PROFIT by selling their products at cost.

+1 to this, i've used cheap protectors for the past 4 years and i finally see the advantage of getting one of those expensive protectors, it's amazing what a difference they make.

The cheap ones will clutter and be impossible to clean up like they are when they are new no matter how hard you try. The will scratch very easy, the touch feeling isn't by any means good or equal to stock. And they will give you rainbow effect in different lighting.

None of the above flaws does power support has as i've noticed, which i'm very impressed with. I used to change out the protectors once a month but getting one of these, i can see how they can last for months and months of usage without getting any scratches near the cheap ones.. So it will definitely pay off in money over time.

I still have one of those cheap protectors on the rear of my phone and it's basically covered in smudges/fingerprints and if i try to clean it with a microfiber cloth it gets all messy, the front is like cleaning off the display without a protector on it, which is very easy!

I just applied the sgp oleophobic and the packing says the film is manufactured in Japan and coated in Korea. Its a pretty nice protector, but it seems thin and only comes with one front and back. Had I known that, I would have just gone for the power support.
