the line at the 5th ave apple store in NYC is still going all the way down 58th street to madison ave. People will be waiting all day. I took some video and will upload it when I get home but right now I'm going to try and find an at&t store and pick up my phone

Report from Waco Texas.

Drove by two of three AT&T stores last night around 11:20pm they had three and four people in line.

I went home, went to bed, got up at 6:15am. Drove by the first, smaller store, which had about 30 people in line, so I decided to go to the larger store. Line was probably about five people longer, so I hopped in line.

AT&T seemed to have their act together, prefilling out forms, explaining things, handing out water etc..

Think they let in about 12 people at a time at this location.

When I got in, they asked what phone I wanted and said the 16GB black, he looked in the drawer behind him and was out so he called down to the other group of registers and about 20 seconds later they said that they were out of 16GB black. So I told him that I'd take a white one, so as he was grabbing the white one they brought a black 16GB up to him and said I'd gotten the last one.

I asked what their overall stock was like and told that there were 100 phones total with 20 of them being black 16GB

They were also telling people that if they didn't get the one that they wanted that they had 30 days to exchange it.

Still trying to get it synced up with iTunes though. They tried in store and said that they were having issues and I could finish it at home.

I drove back by both stores about 40 minutes after my purchase and there were still lines at both.

Cool. Now if I can just get it to sync up so I can actually use the phone.

Bethesda, MD update

Still about 100-150 in line. About 75% of what it started out.

Person just going into store arrived at 7am.

Apple sheepherder had no idea of stock. Could not even tell people if they should expect stock.

2 very large security guards.

So, I waited in line at the waterford lakes ATT in orlando from 5ish AM. When we got there, somebody who said he knew the managers tried to get this whole system going with numbering etc... which worked fine. But we split up between the other ATT store across the street at 6, when security let us there, and people who weren't from the store we came from started a line. For some reason or another, the kid who said he knew the manager was telling us he would take care of the other people and not to worry because we'll still be the same number in line.

well that failed.

when the cops came, he tried to show them the list with our names.

definitely did not work.
did anybody else remember this?!

The thought was a nice idea, but I think personally everybody should have just formed a line the normal way. We ended up getting farther behind then when we started.
SO, after being like 15th in line, we ended up towards the back. Thank god we got iphones. We wanted two black 8gb but ended up getting some of the last phones which were white 16gb. So that's awful. I need to go get a cover to hide the white and also recuperate on the extra 100 I spent for no reason. LOL. I ended up getting back at 11. It was hectic. AND! They kept claiming they didn't know how many they had (so they could sucker people into ordering when they said they ran out) YET they came around and knew how many they had LEFT. ridiculous.

BTW. I was the tiny one with the pinkish red shirt on and jeans.

I was at the one near Home Depot and was 35th in line. No drama there, great organization by a lot of people that were giving out numbers and setting people up.

Just had a delay when the computers went down but I got my iPhone and now patiently waiting for the sync to happen. Patiently in AC!!!! It was hot as hell out there!!

Raleigh NC
Looks like all the AT&T stores have been sold out for hours. Taking orders, said it will take 5-10 business days. Yuck.

Yeah, the home depot one was the one we started at too. The guy who was giving out numbers or whatever assumed that the numbers would work on the other side... (which obviously they wouldn't, given that he can't control people coming in from elsewhere)

so once he called out numbers and had us move to the other side, so the stores were evenly distributed, all that crap with the cops and security guard and previous people in line started.

It was ridiculous. I should have stayed on your side. It was just frustrating cause this guy was telling everybody what to do and where to go without authority, and it ended up screwing everybody up once he moved us. LOL

Sugar Land, TX - First Colony Mall Apple Store

Was about 100 people or so at least in line at 10:30. Hopped in line to see how it went. 30 minutes later, I didn't move very far. Estimated the wait to be around 3 hours at least (even guys at the front I heard say then were there for 2 hours already) so I left.

Chick-Fil-A was nice enough to hand out free nuggets though.

I'm just gonna get AT&T to order one.

Just got back from the smaller Lakewood CA store. There were still 20-30 people in line even though I overheard there were only 3 more iPhones left. Interestingly, the 8gb iPhones were the first to go. Quite a few people who made it in left unhappily because all they had left by the time I left were black 16gb iPhones.

I started stalking the front entrance to my local AT&T store at 9pm last night. Once I saw 2 people start lining up at 10:30PM, I booked it across the street from my steakout location. I was 3rd into the store this morning when the doors open, but because my activation was a simple port of my number as a new customer on an individual plan, my activation was a snap. I was out of there by 8:15AM.
