Alright, I'll post a pic of mine. This was taken over the summer as they were getting ready to go swimming on vacation.

Now I realize how bad I am about putting recent pictures on my PowerBook. Of course, it is a work machine...

I'll have to get your recipe. Whenever I make them it turns out wrong. Do you recomend using strays or do you raise them yourself? ;)

I have two kids myself...wll, the wife helped. They are 3 1/2 and 1 1/2. Two little boys that keep us busy. I really want to get them started on computers but haven't gotten around to it yet. Most of my efforts in that arena have so far been to keep them from screwing up my computer.
set your 3 1/2 year old up their own account with links to kids sites like sesame street.com etc. and let em go nuts. also get a program called "kidpix" http://www.broderbund.com/jump.jsp?...crn=sr2br2go462go180pi7ai41+kid+pix&ovtac=PPC. he loves it! it totally coordinated my son to using the computer. they will need to do simple clicks, click and drag, and double clicks.

What a great thread! So nice to see so many parents who are obviously smitten by their children. I have a 1 year old little boy, who I am absolutely and utterly in love with - I had no idea it was possible to love someone as much as I love him. Our next baby is on the way - due in May. Can't wait. Being a parent rules!

Man I cant wait until my son is old enough for video games! got rid of my ps2 when he was born seeing that I had no time for such things any more. but when he hits 5 or 6.... It will give me a reason to buy a new one;)

My kids were definitely playing video games by the age of 3. Mostly edutainment - type stuff, but you get the idea. I hate to say this, and I say this as someone who was an avid gamer as a kid, but by the time your kids are in their teens, you'll be sick of games.

I've had to sell each of my children to buy computers and parts. Would you like to see my Macs instead?

LOL when I first read the thread title I sub-consciously mis-read it as 'WTB:Any Members with kids?'

BakedBeans Great shot, did you take it or is it a studio shot?(assuming you're not a photo-pro yourself)

Me I've got two gorgeous girls 2½ & 4½ and a boy (90% sure) due March.

The eldest has been using my Macs for quite a while, I've sorted her out with a USB notebook mouse to fit her little hands and made the cursor less responsive to help her control it, other than that OSX is intuitive enough that she has practically taught herself how to navigate to either Appleworks painting, MS Word, iPhoto or Safari for the kids BBC site. She also embarrassed me soon after I'd fitted the wireless router as I was still working on the iBook and emailing myself work to print from the iMac unaware the USB printer was set-up as shared while she was sitting with me in the lounge and merrily printing wirelessly.

Thanks. I was planning on the seperate account thing, but I don't have much software for them. That Kid Pix looks fun. Christmas is coming, time to start convincing the wife we need to buy computer programs.

Is it just me or have other fathers found themselves to be more sensitive since they have children? I cry at everything now. even this thread has choked me up at least two times. I was never like this before.

Nah, I've always been a softie ;)

Actually, before I had kids I always viewed them as incredibly "breakable" and so was always a little nervous around them when they were young. Now, after seeing how resilient they are, I'm not so concerned.

Sure, my heart stops when something really bad almost happens (such as when my son fell down the steps, or when my daughter got poked right above her eye with a drill bit), but day-to-day stuff (minor falls, scrapes, etc.) don't impact me all that much. Which could explain why they run to their mother when they're hurt... :p

Not really, but I have realised I want to hang all pedophiles, where I really hadn't given it much thought before...

Our daughter Hannah is 8 going on 18 and is a force of nature.

Ditto here, only my boy is 7 this week, and little sis is due early next year...

Personally I don't understand lots of our friends who don't want kids. Who's gonna take care of them when they're old and crotchety(er)? Who are they gonna leave their precious stuff to when they go -- their cat? Sure, kids require sacrifice, but they're more than worth it. I think some people are just too self-centered.

Besides, our whole economy is based on growth, including population growth. Why do gov't and business want more people? More taxpayers, more consumers. More saps to keep this Ponzi scheme called Social Security from collapsing (at least until they're out of office).

Sorry for the soapbox. I love kids, but sometimes I worry about the world we're handing them.

...

I always find it interesting when stores have baby sales. I always thought that selling human beings was against the law in most countries.

It's always nice to see nice people with nice children. Now, for those who have Wild Bill pulling things off the wall of the store...I'll keep my opinion to myself. :p

How do you keep them off the computer? Any time I take out the iBook in front of them I suddenly develop a couple of tumors in my lap demanding that I open up iPhoto and run a slideshow. :)

Our two sons are 4 & 2 y.o. and both have computers (PCs :() stocked with edutainment titles and age appropriate weblinks accessible both at daycare and at home. The 4 year old tends to monopolize the control of the mouse and keyboard though and the 2 year old is so far content to sit back, direct, and watch.

They did an experiment (sort of) on this subject. You know how your pupils dilate when you see something you love? Well, they took a load of women, some with kids and some without, and showed them pictures of random cute babies. They pretty much all had the dilated pupils. When they did the same with men, the ones without kids tended to not have dilated pupils, and the ones with kids did. The conclusion was something along the lines of women being programmed to care for/want kids, and men being programmed to do this once they became a dad. It may explain the way you feel more sensitive after having them.

It's not easy, but it helps that I have a desktop so I have to go into another room to work on it. My wife, on the other hand, gets the two tumors you mentioned whenever she tries to do anything on the computer. They must like her more. ;)

And he is lucky to have you.

Thanks for the many kind words.
Kai still has some challenges, but we're doing well overall.

And, like everyone else says, there's simply nothing more precious than our amazing little ones.

Also njmac, seeing by your name and Bruce Springsteins ass I would assume you are from the gardenstate. What part? Are you just over the river?

I'm from Northern N.J. I grew up in Bergen County, about 20 miles over the George Washington Bridge. I moved out to Sussex County a couple of years ago. Now I'm about an hour from the city.

Your son is adorable! I like the name Griffin too.

I've noticed some parents here have all boys or all girls. I'm just curious, do you want to have another baby to try to have one of each?

The reason I ask is because since my daughter was born, it seems at least once a week someone says - * that's great, you have a boy and a girl... I guess you guys are done now? *

I would like to have a third. Maybe next year. My first two were so close together (14 months) that I need a little breather now.

Nope. Not here. The 2 year old was already a "bonus".

We love how the two boys play so nicely together and are really each other's best friends. Hard to believe we could have missed out on that.

That dynamic would be very different with a girl in the mix. Plus I think my wife would go nuts having to deal with Barbies and the like.

I am not a member, but a newbie. Does that count? :)

Proud father of two. Boy almost 4, girl almost 2. He can type my age, use the backspace key, type login. But that on the FreeBSD console. He has not used
my PB yet. Loves to watch iPhoto slideshows though.

That's sounds great. My brother has 3 young boys and they are also best friends. I love to see that. I know they wanted a girl, but now they have their boys, they (and I) certainly can't imagine anything different.

My boy,2 and girl,1 so far are best friends..... but I wouldn't mind having 1 more of each :)

Beautiful picture. Beautiful kid.

I absolutely adore children. Stewed, garnished with sage and served with potatoes, that is...

My three.
Stuart (13), Kirsten (13), and Cameron (9).
They are in Australia. I am in UK (for now). Sometimes it hurts too much.
But I'll be with them for Christmas. :D

(j/k)

this reminds me of the Baby Cook Book:

slice the baby in 4 large pieces,
rub the baby with salt and pepper,
put the baby in the oven.

(if the chicken cook book tells you how to prepare a chicken....)

I have a 3 month old son named Jeffrey. He is the cutest baby in the solar system I think.:D
