Not necessarily, right? If your spouse has a recessive blond gene, then there's a 2 in 4 chance of having a blonde child:

Code:
      B b

 b Bb bb

 b Bb bb

If she doesn't carry the recessive gene, then there is no chance:

Code:
      B B

 b Bb Bb

 b Bb Bb

That is, if I remember my high school biology correctly.

There's something similar to this for baldness too, isn't there? It's all just genes? If your mother's father was bald, you will be bald, but otherwise you won't? Something like that? Anyone?

Getting a little worried there, ~Shard~? :D

Seriously, I've heard of the mother's father connection, but don't really know what it means. My maternal grandfather was bald, but I'm not. At least not yet. :p

Actually no, just curious. ;) I have a thick head of hair, as did my grandfather, and my brother does too, so I'm not worried in the least. :)

Genetics aren't all they're cracked up to be...

I fully expected my children to have brown eyes just like their father, but they both have blue eyes and light brown hair.

My guess is the next child will have brown eyes.

Just to be safe... Does the mailman have blue eyes and light brown hair, perchance? :p

I'm in a similar boat. My daughter has shockingly blonde hair and blue eyes. I'm a (balding) brown haired, hazel eyed dad. But, blonde runs on my wife's side, (she has 'sandy blonde/brown',) and my mom and I are the only hazel eyes in 5 generations on her side, and there are no hazel eyes on my dad's side. (My sister has gray eyes.)

But... Baby pictures of me show me having blonde hair and blue eyes. They both slowly darkened by age 5. (Either that, or aliens replaced me with a badly done clone at about age 5.)

Many childeren start off with blonde hair only to slowly change to brown regardless of the parents. Its very similar to the eyes of a mojority of children to start out blue only to change to green or grey.

Hey! Why am I just now getting a notice that this thread has been updated when I posted back in November? Oh well. Thanks to all for the comments on my son. Your kids are very cute too.

Ive decided to resurrect this thread in honor of our new baby girl to arrive sometime in the next few weeks :)
Congratulations! Although I don't envy you the lack of sleep you'll be facing.

Mine is going to be 16 months old come the end of this month. My how time flies when you're not sleeping...

Thanks mactastic. This will be our second child so lack of sleep will not be alien to us, still wont be fun.

Im in denial right now and im guessing it wont hit me till the baby is about two weeks old and im thoroughly exhausted.

Trying to get as much sleep as possible now... As if you can save it up:rolleyes:

I have three kids, all girls.

Katrina (7), Collette (4) and Abbi (3). Although Collette will be 5 in April and Abbi will be 4 in June. They are wonderful children. Very good, and loving. We are so lucky and in love. A very full heart indeed!

Awesome, congratulations! That's the best reason for resurrecting an old thread that I've seen yet.

I still don't have any kids, but I'm dating a woman who has two so if we end up getting married I guess I'll inherit her two girls! ;)

I summon the demons of Threadcromancy, and demand thee, rise!

A daughter who was 1 year old yesterday. There will probably be one or two more kids after I finish grad school.

Well the verdict is in, two more, all girls. #1 is 4 years old, #2 is 22 months, #3 is 5 days and currently being spoiled as I type one-handed. I'm most likely going to be fixed soon, and assuming that it takes (we have friends where it didn't) this is it.

ouch, three girls....you're going to have so much fun when they're in highschool.... :D

At least I'll have someone to get advice from... as long as we keep our politics out of it... although I somehow suspect I'll be more pro gun in about 9 years... ;)

My son is 2 1/2 and my daughter is 17 months.
my son likes to point out the letters on the keyboard that he knows and my girl, well, she likes to hit the delete key. alot. and smiles about it. :p

wow, old thread and that is an old picture... they look like such babies there (sniff sniff :p)

heh. Yes indeed. A few years ago, when my daughter was 2, a friend had his second daughter (he had a four year old as well at the time.) At Christmas, I found a sappy little book, Why a Daughter Needs a Dad. He turned all mushy and got all "This is the best present ever, man!"

After he recovered from his mushiness, I guess in a need to show his macho side, he came around and commented that when our daughters became dating age, we would have to take them and their first boyfriends to a shooting range:

*BANG* *BANG*
"So, you'll have her home by 9:30, right?"
*BANG* *BANG*
