New driver (106) is MUCH better! My WindowServer memory is now at about 300MB instead of about 700MB and everything is much smoother! Looks like this could finally be fixed.

For me, the new driver is still slow as before. I can't see any improvement. I'm sticking with Apple Driver and Lilu + NvidiaGraphicsFixup kexts.

Does it feel a little "sticky" when switching between windows and things like that? Those issues seem to be totally cleared up for me with 106. The Arabesque screensaver also looks pretty good - it doesn't drop frames although it does freeze for about a 1/4 of a second every so often. I'm not sure if that's a video issue or what.

Day to day use is so much more pleasant on this new driver.

I'm still amazed that this issue is still around in High Sierra, and is a complete dealbreaker for me. I was hoping that I'd be able to upgrade to HS again at some point, but doesnt look like the case.

Yeah I totally get that "sticky" issue and mine doesn't seem to do it like it used to on 106. But its still laggy and drops frames compared to the igpu. Someone above recommended gfxCardStatus as a way to control which gpu was active. Well that was buggy for me on high sierra so I made my own if anyone wants to check it out. Now I get notified of when the gpu changes and I can force the integrated one when I want. Mainly the only time I need the dgpu is when I plug in an external display.

After few days I can say that I can normaly use macOS 10.13.4 with this kext https://github.com/lvs1974/NvidiaGraphicsFixup and build in Apple Nvidia drivers. Web drivers is buggy and slow for me. No matter what version I use.

BTW. I also opened another bug report with Apple, but it was closed because of dupe. They are joking with me I think :).

Engineering has determined that your bug report is a duplicate of another issue and will be closed.

I can confirm that my issue has resolved itself.

I am running 10.13.4 the .106 Nvidia driver and everything is running perfectly on a 4k external monitor with scaled resolution.

Even the Arabesque is running smooth.

I am using a late 2013 MacBook with 750 Nvidia card.

I have the MacBook itself closed and I think what really did the trick was the latest Nvidia CUDA update, driver version 387.178

For me the only thing that works is Lilu.kext + NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext. Latest version of Official WebDriver is compleatly broken on my rMBP early-2013 + G650m

Its weird, that someone reports that web driver fixed the issue and have same GeForce like me, but for me its not fixed with latest web driver.

@kecinzer Ha! I opened a bug report via Apple's developer portal regarding a Wi-Fi issue in 10.12.6 and pointed to a couple of multi-page long threads of other people with the same problem on this version of macOS, and they closed it too, saying it's "too old". Released in October of 2016. Apparently, so old, they won't even bother fixing their own regressions (10.12.5 had no such issues). I mean, even Ubuntu has LTS releases that are supported for 5 years. Ubuntu 18.04 slated for release tomorrow is going to be supported until April of 2023!

Apple told me to switch to the latest version of macOS, even though I mentioned that I already did so, only to revert back to 10.12.6 because of GPU related issues. Won't be surprised, if next time they tell me my late 2013 15" rMBP with GT750M is "too old".

- "Hey, just upgrade to our latest MBP that, BTW, also comes with a quad-core CPU and 16GB of RAM, just like 5 years ago. So new!"

I seem to be getting great results mirroring this setup. Same 2013 Macbook Pro with 750. Updated to 10.13.4, NVIDIA web driver 387.10.10.10.30.107 (107 must have just been released), and Cuda (if it has any effect) to 387.178 .

Been running this for two days now, and haven't seen the usual hiccups with 4k external monitor. Arabesque screensaver still stutters quite a bit, but I never measured performance of that screensaver on 10.12 with a 4k monitor so difficult to compare.

[EDIT] Just realized @red-5 mentioned he was running in clamshell mode while testing Arabesque. If I do the same, the screensaver runs *flawlessly*. It's only when I'm trying to run both the retina display & 4k monitor where Arabesque does it's stuttering. Admittedly, that's a lot of pixels to push.

I am seeing very similar results as you, even better performance on the latest Nvidia 107 driver, I think we are basically kind of good to go now.

You guys still can download 107 driver ? when i check for updates in Nvidia pales it shows no Updates available. Either they rolled it back or the 650m isn't supported anymore ... (i had no luck with 106 driver. I had only black screen on it)

[EDIT] Oh it is becauese they released a security update that i did't saw.

I decided to give my Macbook Pro (late 2013), that I downgraded to Sierra earlier, another chance after reading the latest comments.

For those who want to give it a try, the exact steps to take:

1. First upgrade to High Sierra 10.13.4

2. After install, check the App Store for the security update 2018-001 (macOS 10.13.4 (17E202)). This one is required for the Nvidea driver of step 4.

3. Download and install CUDA driver 387.178: http://www.nvidia.com/object/macosx-cuda-387.178-driver.html

4. Download and install WebDriver 387.107: https://images.nvidia.com/mac/pkg/387/WebDriver-387.10.10.10.30.107.pkg

For now there are no newer drivers available:

After a couple of minutes, when the peace and quiet slowly had returned, I tried the Arabesk screensaver again. Fingers crossed.
Schermafbeelding 2018-05-03 om 22.52.06.png

Unfortunately I have to tell I am not experiencing any improvements on the screensaver. Still awful frame dropping. System animations, for as far I can tell by now, seem smooth. But the fact that a simple screensaver is lagging this badly, tells me that there is still something going wrong under the hood.

Also switching to the Default macOS Graphics Driver (via the neat NVidea Driver Manager System Preferences Pane that apparently comes with the webdriver), doesn't seem to make a big difference.

Well, that's a small update.
Maybe someone can try what life is on the new HS 10.13.5 beta?

Did you tried my solution mentioned with 2 kexts? I'm on it for 2 weeks now and I can normaly use my MB with connected external display.

Can you list out specifics on trying to run that screensaver? Using external display? Resolutions of your screens?

Good news! On the latest 10.13.5 beta, the Nvidia GPU lag appears to be all but fixed (there is some very slight lag in Launchpad)!

Would you say there is improvement over 10.4 + Nvidia web driver of 107?

I never had the 10.13.4 build combined with the 107 driver on my machine, as the 10.13.5 beta came out before Nvidia released their 107 drivers. It is a marked improvement from the 103 drivers + 10.13.4 combo though...

I have a late 2013 15" rMBP with the GT 750M and I'm still running El Capitan. So what do we think guys, is it now safe to upgrade to High Sierra?

Don't do it. Get an upgrade to Sierra if anything, this new one is still very much a step down for people with Nvidia GT 750M cards (what I have).

I was using a 2012 Macbook pro Intel Graphics recently and the UI animations were so much smoother.
