I'm definitely staying on AT&T. I realize I'm paying a premium for their network, but there is no T-Mobile service at my home and fantastic AT&T LTE coverage. AT&T has great coverage now in CT. Like with my home, car, iPhone, etc., I'm often willing to pay extra for what I consider to be premium service. I couldn't justify to myself falling back to EDGE coverage with T-Mobile on the roads outside my town to save a few bucks.

.5 mbps is fine for streaming audio like Pandora with a little buffering but I doubt you're watching Netflix or any other video streaming service with speeds that low without buffering every few seconds.

I've watch an entire season of Game Of Thrones streaming at the very slow speeds pictured below just fine. It buffers a few seconds when starting a new episode but then it's fine. The picture isn't high def but it's fine.

i've had tmobile before and they were pretty good.. those were the pre 4g days tho. they were good.. now for the 4G and 4GLTE out there now, i don't know how they compare. i know att is second to verizon.

Actually in terms of reliability and speed I think AT&T is the best overall. VZW has more customers and a wider LTE coverage area.

I had TMo 7-8 years ago and we hated it. Dropped calls, poor reception ALL the time. We lived in North Dallas.

I think this would be more of a no-brainer decision if we were looking at it 6-10 months from now. At this point though, I don't know if T-Mobile's network is worth a $60/month reduction in bill.

You have nothing to lose to try it. If you don't like T-Mobile then AT&T will pay you $450 to come back? Win win. To be fair T-Mobile is a totally different company than 7 to 8 years ago.

Agree with the fact that T Mobile is completely different now. But there is a hint of difficulty that comes with move a 5-line family plan too and from cell carriers.....

Especially when one of the members of the family lives in North Carolina.

T Mobile's deal isn't going anywhere. I figure we have some time to think about it while they keep bolstering their network. Really, its not those of us here in DFW I'm concerned about - from what I've read T-Mobile is quite a ways behind AT&T in Raleigh-Durham, NC where my brother goes to school.

And my wife's mom and grandmother live in the boonies just south of the OK-TX border......AT&T has them covered with LTE, T-Mobile provides "satisfactory" 3G.

I'll give T-Mobile credit. Got me seriously thinking about switching.....but now I think I may talk my family into holding off for the time being. Unless they want a new phone that badly (they all have iPhone 5's).

Perhaps we'll wait until the 6 comes out and make our decision then. That way, newest phone, more time for network build-out, better overall.

T-Mobile has vastly improved since 8 years ago. Grab a $30 prepaid and try it out to see if the coverage works well in your area. It's well worth the switch if the coverage meets your needs.

How is coverage where you are in NC? I'm really not concerned about coverage here in Dallas - its my brother in Raleigh-Durham that's the issue. He goes to Duke Law.

Works great in Charlotte. I get LTE pretty much all over the metro. I haven't really been around Durham very much but do go to Raleigh occasionally and also got pretty good service.

t-mobile sim card

I'd like to move from ATT&T to T-mobile but I live in Northwest NJ. Is there a way to buy a T-mobile sim card to swap out sim cards in order to test coverage at home using same I-phone. Ideas?

Would save a bunch of money switching 5 lines now but can't really do it because we cover 3 states and coverage in two of the locations would not be very good. The recent AT&T plan changes will raise our rates $30 a month so I was primed but poor coverage is a deal killer. Does not matter what the rate is, if the phone does not work, it is not worth it.

Try the Walmart deal for $30 a month on prepaid T-Mobile. You have to go to Walmart site or store I believe to get it. I could be wrong. But I hear from some that north jersey isn't great with T-mobile. Bergen county that is.

All you have to do, is go to walmart and buy the $30 card (comes with activation). You'll need a T-Mobile sim if you don't have one already.

Once that is done, call T-Mobile or have a live chat with them. Tell them you want to activate the $30 prepaid plan. They'll ask for the activation code on the back of the card. Once activated everything should be good in less than an hour.

kind of off topic but, Game of Thrones isn't on Netflix, where were you streaming it from? HBO Go?

I'm in DFW and will be switching from to tmobile from AT&T. We have 4 lines and only mine is on unlimited. Everyone else goes over every single month. We will save a good bit of money and their service is great here since they just bought metro pcs.

Not an AT&T customer, but I would switch to T-Mobile in a heartbeat.

That is, if T-Mobile even had HSPA+ data in my town. They have 4G LTE in the large city next to us, but not even 3G+ here. It's a shame too, because probably by the time they get a decent LTE rollout in the US, they won't pay ETFs anymore :(

AT&T is still throttling and I am no exception. I am currently throttled but LTE is pretty good in my area and I can still stream netflix while throttled.

I'm grandfathered in AT&T's unlimited plan. I do get throttled from time to time. Once T-Mobile got aggressive I decided to try them in addition to my existing service. I have the $70 unlimited data, talk & text plan. The first month I used 8GB of LTE data without throttling, same for month two, that's a great deal from my perspective. Especially since the coverage is great and speed is slightly faster than AT&T. An impressive result.

I was strongly considering doing this because I thought I might save some money and enjoy unlimited data.

Nope.

The prices in the end weren't any different for my needs; their unlimited plans don't extend to internet devices like tablets and mifis and my mifi is what I use the most. In order to get what I have with AT&T for that there was no savings. When I factor in their abysmal coverage in south Texas, it's not worth it.

BTW, to get your ETF paid off you do indeed have to turn in a phone that's on another major carrier's network; unlocked phones such as the Nexus 5 need not apply even though T-Mobile sells them. Then you have to upload a copy of your last bill with the ETF charges to their website, and in 8 weeks to get a pre-paid Visa gift card as your credit.

I made the switch from AT&T to T-Mobile and could not be happier. Both companies have great LTE coverage in Boston. T-Mobile actually has better coverage here inside my own house -- I get an extra two bars compared to AT&T. (Extra bonus)

What sealed the deal for me is: AT&T gave me 3GB/month data, T-Mobile I have unlimited.

(Not to mention, my bill dropped $30/month)

I used to have unlimited data, but lost it a few years back because of an angry girlfriend and had to get a new number and plan. Having to pay for 2-3 GB of data a month really makes me feel as if I can't enjoy my mobile iPhone experience to the fullest. I rarely stream audio for long periods of time, or dare to watch anything on Netflix except when using wifi. T-Mobile is incredibly tempting since I would be gaining unlimited use and the ability to tether 2.5 GB to my iPad air. It will be interesting to see if that new spectrum really helps T-Mobile out.

this is one of my selling points.. im just worried that my ATT is currently better LTE coverage in DC metro area than Tmobile.
