I have a 2009 Special Edition Unibody MacBook with the 2.4/2GB/250HDD and I paid $1599, so basically the model that replaced mine is now 2.53/4GB/250HDD with a better battery and screen...Huh

I love my unit, I was contemplating getting an early 2009 MBP with the 2.66 just for the Discrete Graphics, but I do not think I need it, and the loss I would take on eBay or somewhere else can not justify me Backing up and restoring everything all over again just to get a few minor improvements, I love my 2009 uMB SE, I just Wuv it....

My uMB has the 3.0 GBit Sata Controller although right now I have a Hitachi 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache HDD which works fine, when the 256 SSD's come down in price I will upgrade and get the better use out of the 3.0GBit SATA controller, but for now, it works basically perfect...

How is your screen? do you have the 9C89 ? I agree with clyde2801 from above that said it should be replaced by apple. I have a 9C89 and it has horrible washout on vertical angles. I think if the screen was close to the new MBP and I added the extra ram to get it to 4 total than I'd be happy with the 13 uMB

No I don't feel screwed. I bought in October 3 days after they came out. Also, I think of my MacBook as unique model and one of kind made. Why? It's the only MacBook made out of aluminum.

How unique can you feel?;)

Also, its technology tidbit. Buy today and tomorrow it's obsolete.

I don't see why the OP has any reason to complain, he had 4 months with the newest model. Apple averages 6 months between updates. Since he didn't buy the day a new one was released he did pretty good. And buying the day of release is basically the only way someone won't feel screwed... although I'm sure some will still feel that way no matter what.

I decided to get a UMB 2 months ago because the HD in my 2 year old MB died, and it was definitely getting a little worse for wear. I'm not pissed about it though. I love this laptop and I can't wait to see what comes around in another generation or two.

Being "screwed" by an update

If you feel screwed by a product update, maybe you should check that your zen/qi/karma/chakras are not outta whack. Storytime:

A man is riding his horse across a rocky desert in the middle of a moonless night. A voice calls down to him "Man, pick up a rock from under your horse's feet, and you shall live a prosperous and wealthy life to the end of your days." The man says to himself "Ok self, I guess it won't hurt to try." He dismounts, picks up a rock but can't see it very well, so he puts it in his pocket, mounts up again and continues riding.

In the morning at the oasis when he wakes up he pulls the rock from out of his pocket and it's a huge freakin' !!!DIAMOND!!! "A diamond, what a fortunate guy I am!" he exclaims. Another rider at the oasis hears him and says "Did a voice tell you to pick up a rock?" The first rider says yes. The second rider says, "Me too! I didn't know which one, so I filled up all of my saddlebags with rocks, and they were all diamonds! Soon I shall rule the world."

The first rider is furious. "I've been screwed!" he thinks to himself. He goes back in the desert in the daytime searching for diamonds but he can't find any, just plain old rocks, but he won't give up. Eventually his horse collapses from thirst, but he keeps searching. As he is nearing death from dehydration, a voice calls down to him again. "You selfish f&%$wit, I gave you a diamond, but you were so jealous of someone else's even greater fortune that now you're dead." And the rider died.

Moral of the story: Shut the f&%$ up about product updates, b#%@&*$!

Do these types of threads appear after every update Apple makes?

Yes, and if you are a motorcyclist they also occur there when the new models come out. I recall on one site a manufacturer came out with a new model, everyone was belittling it. Talk about how XYZ bike company was not listening to its customers. When the bike was released it was a sell out. I like to go back and revisit the 'doomsayer threads' where people said the bike would be a dud, and then ask what they think about it selling out.

Photographer?
Same thing ... when new models come out, some will be complaining.

Audiophile?
Check out those forums, when new models are released in that field you can bet someone will be complaining.

BOTTOM LINE: No matter what Apple does, some people will find something to complain about .... always!!!!

Take a good DVD of a black and white movie and play it on dvd player, full screen. If the contrast and viewing angles are truly horrid and washed out, make an appointment to the apple store, DVD in hand, to show them the quality of your screen. If the genius can clearly see that the screen clearly sucks big fur off of small rodents, you may have a shot at getting a screen replacement.

I got a genius to do that with a 2.0 unibody with a 9c89 screen, except that I used the quicktime coverage of the october notebook event: it featured a giant floating head ceo, as you couldn't tell the difference between steve's turtleneck and the black background behind him.

Apple will never admit that they put sh#^ screens in the first unibodies, but maybe a genius will admit that you got screwed with it. If that doesn't work, call applecare.

Let's all complain to Apple, and then they'll give us $100 back. :D

Or maybe we can just deal with it because this is the tech industry and everything that exists on the market today is outdated by at least two product lines.

LOL! I cant believe we actually got that $100 way back when. Yea, I'm hoping my notebook should last until the end of Senior year (which it should) and am going to the funds from that + open house money + job to get a sweet mac pro! :) (or current "pro" desktop ;))
