A lifelong gamer here, who "went off of gaming" a few years ago.

I have an Xbox One X, and a PS4 Pro, but haven't been gaming.

Saw some Battlefield 6 gameplay on PS5 Pro today, and it looked great. I'm a huge battlefield enthusiast. I'd actually buy the PS5 Pro for that game alone. Having said that, the new James Bond & GTA6 games are coming in the new year, and they also look good.

Question for PS5 Pro owners: How good are they?

Thanks in advance, and wishing you well.

I have a regular PS5, I love it, my favorite console, balance of powerful hardware and simple, stable software. When I don't want to deal with PC drivers but play a AAA game its my top choice. I have every major platform, Xbox Series X, Switch, gaming PC, Mac, but besides exclusives I prefer the PS ecosystem.

All that said I don't particularly feel a need to upgrade to a Pro, but I will get a PS6 whenever that lands. I would buy a Pro today if I didn't already have the regular PS5.

Agreed BF6 looks great

Thanks for the reply.

I think I'm going to get a PS5 Pro. If I already had a PS5, I might not have got one, but it makes sense for me waiting this long to future proof myself.

I've been watching best PS5 games videos, and there's quite a few excellent looking titles that I can get into, as I'm arriving late to the party!

I wanted to get a PS5 at launch, but as you probably know, they were like gold dust so I couldn't get one. Then I just gave up.

I'll message you my user name if I get one, and we can team up if you like?

Happy gaming 👍🏼.

For sure! I think you will quite like it, and I know what you mean, it was really hard to find the OG PS5s for a long time. Pro seems like the right choice now.

Yeah there are lots of great titles and they all run flawlessly, Horizon series is fantastic. You can find good deals on games too, either physical or on Sony's store they have sales nearly as often as Steam does, although they don't manage bundles as well as Steam (be careful not to buy the same game twice, etc.)

random, but I also like that Sony's PS OS is built on FreeBSD (so is Switch) so it feels like old school macOS reliability, far cry from what the xbox has become as a windows 11 hybrid thing. If they ever port Halo MCC to PlayStation, my days of Xbox will be over, although the hardware's pretty good this iteration.

for sure, DM me

Been looking for deals, but there aren't any.

I suppose you just have to pay the price for entry 😁.

I have the original Horizon game, which I played on my PS4 Pro: Fantastic. Thus, I'm excited and intrigued by how good games with look on the PS5 Pro. I've watched some gameplay on YouTube, which looks good, but its obviously compressed, so should look better in "real life."

I'll also want to get a good gaming headset. I have the third gen A50s with Base Stations, but I believe they are not compatible with the PS5, because they use an optical connector. Shame, as the sound quality is really good.

Can you recommend a good headset?

As for games, I'll need something before BF6 arrives, so I think I'll try the title by From Software. I'm a huge Souls fan, so that should be something superb to tuck into.

I'll be sure to DM you with my PS Name.

Happy gaming!

Don’t have PS5 Pro but I think you should only buy it if you can afford (you might need to spend for disc drive and games as well) and have good 4K TV with variable refresh rate and HDR maybe.

I have a PS5 Pro with the optical drive. I'm primarily a traditional single player gamer that uses physical media and have at one time or another owned every major gaming platform since the PS2.

This and the previous generation Playstation feel so similar in execution that it may as well be called the PS4 Pro Plus Plus, but nevertheless I think it's the best overall platform to go to for gaming right now. The hardware is solid, its generally hassle free to use, and it's the best way to play the massive PS4/PS5 title library.

Thanks.

My TV is a Samsung 8000 Series, about 10 years old.

4K, HDR, 60.

I’ll definitely get a Pro, which is a no brainier at this point.

Currently deciding whether to get a pair of A50X headset, or get the adapter for my Gen 3 A50s.

I’ve started to build a list of games:

Battlefield 6

Borderlands 4

Elden Ring

Resident Evil

God Of War

Horizon

Thanks again 👍🏼.

All set then—happy gaming! Can’t comment on headset as I don’t use any. Check out psdeals.net for game deals and price history.

for a headset... your A50 might just work with the correct adapter or over a wire, but I haven't looked into it. I think there are several good options, including newer Astro or Logitech. Sony has their own PlayStation brand headsets which are supposed to be very good now. Personally I use and enjoy Razer stuff on my PC, and since the PS5 controller has a regular headphone jack I can just plug in my old Blackshark V2 and it works great. I hear the new V3's are quite good (but wireless, so check compatibility etc.)

for TV, your Samsung will do quite well. depending how it handles HDR, (I think standards have changed in 10 years) then VRR and OLED blacks/colors etc. are the only things you're missing. I have a Sony OLED 120hz VRR which pairs quite nicely even my vanilla PS5 will play games like Destiny at 120hz, but as these things are always improving and TVs are expensive no rush to upgrade. I do feel like 4k 120hz VRR is kinda end game image quality for anything besides eSports, but they seem to keep improving colors and things slowly but surely each year. I guess tandem OLED being the big next thing for increased brightness to bring it up to LCD levels, but if you can keep the room dark it's not a big deal.

Thanks for the reply.

I ordered my PS5 Pro with disc drive yesterday, and also the A50X.

I haven’t bought any gaming stuff for years, so I thought why not.

I believe the Astro adapter would work with my A50 Gen 3, but I just treated myself.

I’ll be collecting the hardware from store, in the next few days.

As for games, I’ll definitely be getting Battlefield 6, and Borderlands 4. Until then, I’m probably going to get Elden Ring (I’m an FPS & Souls gamer,) God Of War, and Horizon.

Being late to the party, I have so many games to choose from. I can also play games that I haven’t really played on my PS4 Pro, with the PS5 Pro enhancements (like TLOU 2.)

Happy gaming, buddy 👍🏼.

Edit: I’ve ordered Elden Ring, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut & GTA 5.
