I just bought this enclosure from Inateck, which is supposedly optimized for SSDs and they show over 400MB/s transfers on OSX.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FCLG65U/ref=ox_ya_os_product_refresh_T1

Im getting it tomorrow and will report how it works.

I just bought this a few days ago, it's VERY fast even on my old MP with a
non native USB3.0 Inateck card, I get write/read of 333mb/s and 358mb/s

On native USB3.0 you should see over 400mb/s :)

Very well made and cool box - Samsung EVO was a tight fit - length wise
and you need to add the second "rubber strip" to hold it in place nice and tight.

Just played around with it...not bad for a 20 dollar SATA to USB enclosure. Native i get 450 read and 400 write on this SSD so its pretty close.

hi guys, hope you all still remember this thread. haha. Just want to ask if anyone of you have chance to test out this enclosure? I plan to use this with Intel SSD 530 240GB as external drive for my rMbp as it only has 128GB SSD size. >.< Appreciate your help on this. Thanks!!

I have not seen anybody on here mention using that particular enclosure, but Transcend makes good products in general and that enclosure is USB3 with UASP support, so I think it would be fine.

I everyone, just wondering which enclosure for a 1Tb ssd, seems like the enclosures are good up to 256Gb but with larger capacity it needs a power supply? Anyone?

Get the Seagate Thunderbolt Adapter for your SSD, it's 2x faster than USB 3.0

TOO much $$$. Then every machine needs TB. USB 3.0 is a great choice. It can be used on most computers and will have good bandwidth.. probable 400 MB/s on USB 3.0. Until the enclosure or USB controller are dogs.

TB 3 / USB 3.1 Awesome choice. As long as you enclosure will support TB 3 and USB 3.1. But again TB $$$ TOO much for single drive SSD performance.

NvME, Now that is a different story. 3500 MB/s read / 2500 MB/s write. That will be good for TB 3.

Summary...

Get USB if using the drive on many computers. USB 3.0 would be best.

TB only if you are using the drive(s) for yourself. Really this configuration would only realize performance in Raid 0 SSD. WD has a discontinued dual HDD setup you can swap the drives out with SSDs.

TB 3 and USB 3.1 use a universal plug USB C. Nice but you still need $$$ for a TB 3 cable and most computers are not going to be able to use the TB. The USB 3.1 is backwards compatible but will require a USB C to A cable adapter. (verify your equipment is USB 1, 2 and 3 compatable)

You are replying to a 3-year old thread...

Got to stay up to date. :) But even 3 years ago, TB would still be the wrong choice unless you have $$$ to burn. Just no performance gain for the $$$$, but there is the daisy chain option in TB. Just remember to put your slowest device at the end of the chain.

:)
