Just an update the upgrade swap went flawlessly. Took about 25 mins cuz she had to ask some questions to her supervisor but she didn't even need the imei or micro sim number! Sooo happy right now!

Went over fine at Best Buy. They jumped the gun a little bit and activated the phone before AT&T had switched everything. Was on with the rep and everything was fine. Took about 10-15 mins.

I picked my iPhone 4 from Apple store. They had a 3 AT&T guys stationed at the store and they were able to swap my old number (I added a new line to get iPhone 4) and put it on iPhone 4 without any issues.

Same with me, only they activated the phone first with the new number so I had to hit AT&T for a new sim. They took care of everything else though fine.

There must be something different about the activation for Apple-shipped phone versus AT&T shipped phones versus instore phones. Or, it could just be the the apple-shipped phones weren't meant to be upgrade-swapped till today. At any rate, I had the same problems many had. They correctly linked the IMEI/ICCID to the other line but Itunes still had the original phone number...

Were you able to get it to work eventually? I am on the phone with ATT right now and have made no progress...

Phone call to AT&T took only a few minutes. The guy flipped the IMEI and SIM card numbers over to the correct line, and when I brought it up in iTunes it had the proper number. I thanked him for knowing his job, and he laughed and said that he was aware some do not know how to do this and it just depends on who you get.

I had the same issue. After 5 hours on the phone, I went to the AT&T store. They had to activate on the upgradees' line, and then swap everything out... PITA i say.. But it works, so im not complaining...

The Apple Store I went to today to pick up my iPhone had at&t reps in the store to help with upgrade swaps and what not. It saved me a lot of headache

Same here. I was in & out in fifteen minutes. But, they didn't have microSIMS. They had a regular one, & thankfully, I thought ahead & purchased a microSIM at AT&T Tuesday. I had people trying to buy it for $50 because they didn't want to leave the store without it activated. :p

is there a way to upgrade someones line and not have that phone there?? also not have their sim cut off??

I went to the Apple store yesterday to upgrade my line and the other line on my account, when they did the upgrade, the other line was cut off, but the phone was never activated in iTunes

any way to avoid this??

Mines went smooth. Texted my rep and she told me to bring mines and my moms phone, did the entire thing in about 15 minutes.

Walked into AT&T, bought it, swapped some numbers around and had it done. No lines effected, just switched my number to the microSIM of my fathers line on which the upgrade was used.

He still has his old sim card, doesnt even know anything happened. Easy :)
