Well I'm going to be scattering salt in front of my front door because of the ice.:(

European salt for European ice

I'm going to drive from county to county looking for Kinder Surprises. And I won't stop until I find them - Even if I have to drive into Mexico and smuggle them back in.

The risk is worth it - I want my kids to grow up with some Europeeeen culture. Everything else is just uncivilized.

I will most likely venture out to Frisco for some grocery shopping. I might also buy a new pair of jeans, at least I've been meaning to.

On Sunday we'll be going aaaaaallll the way to Carrollton for church, then we'll probably grab lunch out somewhere, and head back home where I'll promptly take off my pants and spend the rest of the day saying, "Well,..." and then not following up with anything after that.

I don't have much planned for this weekend. Probably stay home Saturday and do some work on the computer that I've been avoiding. Then Sunday will be church for me as usual.

$2000? That's it? Freakin' peasant.

I don't buy a chair unless my ass can sit firmly and comfortably on the skins of unicorns while my arms rest on ivory armrests made from the tusks of extinct mammoths.

You obviously have no taste or class.

Well, I'm going to go buy a $2000 chair.

Tell me more; I'm fascinated.

As for me, I expect that I shall head to the Saturday farmer's market for my weekly meat, fish, fruit and veg (mostly organic) shopping, and after that, pay a visit to my favourite Italian coffee shop for an espresso or two.

Not me. Bad weather moving through Colorado last night and today. I have about 7-8 inches of snow on my lawn and it is still coming down.

2k is on the cheap end, but I think they make one or two at that price level with metal arms. Metal arms are the only way to go.

Scepticalscribe....

For context: The "Chair" Thread

Yeah, it's a reference to one of acidfast's more interesting series of posts... Sorry for the lack of context.

Plastic looks ish over time.

We probably should give acidfast a break...

I think we should realise he's just trolling the board! It's pretty clear his 'knowledge' of things like salt, chairs, e. coli mutations etc is simply the result of a cursory google search.

Then again I should probably realise I'm putting off starting today's revision!

just finished my work at the Swiss Light Source

dataset collection to a preliminary resolution of 2.4Å :D

as far as revisions go; I have two in revision, one in submission and i need to submit another today :D

just had some homemade Hungarian Pálinka and I'm off for some skiing.

see you chaps later!

also, i really like your avatars, Cheap Monday makes some high-quality affordable stuff.

although, i think it's upside down

I'm in London once again and can say AVOID Greenline at Luton airport!

In January and last year I've been several times to Gatwick AP and Stansted AP and compared their shuttle bus drivers are much more obliging then in Luton.

I was one hour late which is firstly allowed as ticket conditions say and secondly not my fault since my aircraft was delayed due to a defrosting.

And I had to go to the easybus ticket office again and she denied to give me a new ticket and I had to buy another one and wait over one more hour!

Crappy company and even more miserable joint venture!

why fly into Gatwick or Stansted, unless you're doing a discount vacation? if so, where to?

Yes, please do lecture us on bacteria.

I would, if you provide the topic? Right now, cell division and novel anitbiotics are hot, as is microbiome analysis.

one interesting example is to irradiate an obese person's gut bacteria and reinoculate with the microbiome of a skinny person. the prediction is that the overall weight of the subject would drastically reduce, at least initially, until the metabolism of the bacteria adjusted to the new diet.

What's so great about Heathrow?

Stanstead is a bit of a cattle shed, but it has a good rail link. Gatwick has better rail options than Heathrow, is quieter and isn't too bad an airport. Take whichever one works!

it depends on where you're going.

if i'm going to Diamond Light Source, they have a taxi waiting at Heathrow. If I'm heading in the city, to meet colleagues, I find Heathrow quite easy as I can connect directly with the Underground. Most of my colleagues at Imperial and UCL live adjacent to Hyde Park, so I find Heathrow the easiest. I have flown into Gatwick and I found the express quite useful, but not so cheap. I haven't flown into City or Stansted though, only out of City (back to Frankfurt.)

Heathrow + the tube one of the slowest option for the city - takes around an hour 10. Stanstead has a connecting train service right into Liverpool street in 45 minutes. City airport is even better. Even Gatwick into Waterloo then the Waterloo and City line is faster than the tube from Heathrow.

Heathrow is the obvious choice for connecting flights (particularly Asia or transatlantic). For European stuff, the other airports are often better.
