my upgrade is not until november 20th 2010, so i got $500 saved right know will have more around just incase they do come out with one at 64gb iam sure that will cost more. i payed $399 for a 32gb 3gs the day it came out.i just want the iphone 4g the week it comes out.

So why not wait until your upgrade and save your money. You crazy kids and your inability to wait. As for me I will see the new iPhone in December when my upgrade comes around.

That's the best financial decision I've heard yet.

Pssst... babies aren't financial investments ;)

I've got the money saved... but for an iPhone HD? I'll have to wait and see what it has. If it doesn't have laser beams coming out of it then it's a no from me.

Excellent decision. They are a renewable natural resource.
I'm all about renewable resources! :D
Its great to be a teen with no responsibilities other than school of course!
Yes but I don't look back on the days where coming up with $600 meant that I had to work 30 days and not pay any bills. ;)
Nov 2011? That's 18 months from now! Did you just get a brand new phone?

Yes, it would appear so. Join date + user name + "can't renew until 11/2011" = new phone bought within approximately 7 months of what would be a standard refresh date. ;)

Let's talk about how it seems absurd to only have $600 in savings and if that is all you have as an adult then you don't need an iPhone. Better yet, I don't recall ever being in a position where I had no responsibilities after I turned 18, even though college. College kids have really taken the "I'm just a poor college student" thing a bit too far. But I digress.

No kidding

I think it's within even less than 7. Doesn't everyone get an upgrade at 20 months? Source

That tells me the poster has gotten a new phone at least within the last 3 months!

Although you may feel you have to have it now, you’re better off waiting, if the price ends up being higher than expected, or just buying the 3GS when it’s going to be dirt cheap.

Yup

It is quite expensive always wanting the latest gadget so I don't do it

I mean surely the 3gs isn't going to be obsolete and surely you have other things that would better warrant 600 bucks rather than spending it on a device that has pretty much the same experience as what you have now.......or maybe you don't at which point I would recommend changing

I'm on a family plan with 3 numbers on it. The first time I was eligible for an upgrade was 17 or 18 months. The next time I was eligible for an upgrade was only 12 months after that.

The time between upgrades varies.

Keep in mind that, judging from previous years, there will likely be an "early upgrade" discount at somewhere between the subsidized price and unsubsidized price.

I don't see Apple changing prices (i.e. I think it is a safe bet that the new phone will cost 199.99 subsidized or 399.99 early upgrade for the lowest capacity phone)

I haven't quite decided yet... I just upgraded to a 3GS in December, so I'm still pretty happy with my iPhone. If the hardware is significantly more powerful and I can sell my 3GS for a decent price then I might bite.

On the other hand... I can get OS4 for free and get most or all of the features on my 3GS. That may just hold me over until next year.

seriously.. if u have to "SAVE" to buy a $2-300 phone, you shouldn't be buying the 2-300 dollar phone. talk about why America is so in debt.. it's living beyond your means.

it's a PHONE. if u have to SAVE UP for it, then you shouldn't need it or have it.
if you had a job that requires it, it should be paying you enough such that a 200 dollar purchase doesn't require 'saving up'.

Umm America isn't in debt because of the iPhone but far be it from me to stand in your way of your delusions. ;)

Exactly, but absolute maximum is 20 months. The OP's upgrade time is Nov 2011 which is ~18 months away so, the OP must have gotten a brand new phone within the past ~2-3 months.

@OP If you just got a new phone why are you buying the new iPhone? That's a huge waste of money!

He could always sell his current 3GS and put that towards the new phone.. it'd definitely help. The phone should still be in like new condition.

why does anyone ever pay the unsubsidized price? why not just cancel your current contract and buy the new phone for the new customer price? you'll save about $150.

I'm 26 ( Don't feel like it though, feel like I'm 21, LOL) And I make OK money for what I do, but I usually have about a grand every month or so to play with after rent and bills and food and such to play with. I usually spend my money on Go fast goodies for the car, but later this year I'll buy another phone, depending on how the new iphone is, or maybe the EVO. Who knows.

The only reason why I bought the 3GS was because my 3G had some water damage. Some I either going to have to pay 500 or 600 dollars or wait till October.

Ok lets say the phone is $200 + $100 ETF from Verizon + $36 activation fee + $30 case, so that'll be about $370 w/o tax, so I need to save about $400.

I think I'll pay full price but I have a 2 months old 3GS that I'll sell and pay the difference. I also have $225 worth of FutureShop gift-cards(like BestBuy in Canada) that I'll use.

I have babies so I can sell them and buy Apple products. I'll be a-ok come June, I'm about 3 weeks out from my due date.

Have twins like my wife, that way you can sell one and still have one for a later upgrade :D
