Umm America isn't in debt because of the iPhone but far be it from me to stand in your way of your delusions. ;)

Pls learn to read.

"talk about why America is so in debt.. it's living beyond your means."

i didn't say it's b/c of the iphone.. it's b/c people live beyond their means.

This is why I don't upgrade my iPhone every year. Did I want a 3GS? Yeah. But I didn't buy it.

So now I have $300 saved up for this year...

true.. i didn't need a 3GS either, but i got it for free.. actually i got money out of it.

- sold iPhone 3G for $320
- HUP for $282 with tax :)

i will do the same this year

i'm on rogers btw

Since I passed on the 3GS and stuck with my 3G, I will only need around $360 for the more expensive iPhone, assuming they stick with the current pricing.

a better question to the OP would be, have you saved the $100 needed to get a name change on MacRumors?? certainly you cant use your current one, i hear arn might do some discounts, not sure though

Right away when you sign up with them or at the end of the month?

it's not right away. it'll show up on your first bill.

your first bill will be your largest because it will include the pro-rated charges from activation until the end of your billing cycle plus one full month's charges.

So why not wait until your upgrade and save your money. You crazy kids and your inability to wait. As for me I will see the new iPhone in December when my upgrade comes around.

I will possibly see it in March of 2011... I'm happy with my Jail Broken 3GS, it already has all the multitasking capabilities promised in the new version. Heck, I may just wait for iphone 5.

I'm not sure the iphone 4 will be that much better than the 3GS. Video conferencing? Blah... not interested... I can also change my own battery now if I needed it. But it's fine. I'm sure I can go another year or more with my trusty 3GS.

20 in school and working here.
About 1100/2 weeks. I'm not rich but I am doing decent. I only work 29 hours a week but I'm just glad I don't have to worry about saving up for one... I'm not eligible until February. My 3Gs got stolen 4 months ago so I havn't had the iPhone plan or high bill so I doubt they will up my upgrade time. Plus our corp. gets a 24% discount so I am never at the $100 mark anyway... Oh well.

The lowest costing phone is actually 500 dollars for the 8gb, att gives you 400 discount on every iphone, so they go 500,600,700 regular price early upgrade is 300,400,500 for full discount upgrade 100,200,300. When your eligible for an upgrade all depends on how much you spend on your monthly bill if its over 100 dollars every month you can upgrade every 12 months at the full discount

Keep in mind that, judging from previous years, there will likely be an "early upgrade" discount at somewhere between the subsidized price and unsubsidized price.

I don't see Apple changing prices (i.e. I think it is a safe bet that the new phone will cost 199.99 subsidized or 399.99 early upgrade for the lowest capacity phone)

as for me i'm 20 and have a few time job, all i have to do to get my iphone is sell a hand full of iphones to people with 2 year contracts and i'll get my iphone. I have to pay full retail price as employee don't get discounts on iphones but i get free service. Work on commission

how did the early upgrade work last year.. was it available to everyone, no matter how long they've been under contract? Or is it on a case-by-case basis much like how some people are able to get a full discount after only 12 months. I'm not due for a full upgrade for a while(10/2010 and 2/2011 for both lines on my account), but if I can get an early upgrade I am willing to pay the extra $200.

The early upgrade option is only for current customers with an iPhone on their account.

For example, If you have a Blackberry or any other phone and you want to upgrade you can't do an early upgrade on that...

You can only "early upgrade" an iPhone..

why does anyone ever pay the unsubsidized price? why not just cancel your current contract and buy the new phone for the new customer price? you'll save about $150.

Personally, because I HATE being tied into a contract with things. I can afford the unsubsidised price, so I pay it, and I'm not tied into anything, and owe nothing.

I'm 17 and I recently got a job, I make $8.50 an hour, so I'll have $600 saved up in about a month!
I'll be the first guy camping outside the Apple store!
Any other teens out there with a job saving up?

Not with a job but I'll try to get it for my b'day in advance (also 17) but I won't be able to go to an apple store because in Mexico there are none! I will probably have to go to the service provider's shop (if I'm out of school by then...lol

Not entirely true - you can "early upgrade" (receive the $200 discount) from any phone on AT&T, at least as the rules for the "early upgrade" stand now.

Last year, AT&T did offer a "full upgrade" on launch day for iPhone users who were full upgrade eligible within a few months of the 3GS launch (i think it was like July/August) - i think this is where you may have gotten confused, since - well - the whole thing is confusing.

I know last year my wife got her 3GS with an "early upgrade" about 4 months into her contract after receiving another non-subsidzed phone and paid $400 for a 16GB model.

Dang, how are you going to pay for rent, college tuition, and food at the same time? I would never be able to afford it.

I have a 3GS, I'm just gonna use a line I have with a 2G currently on it to upgrade, then if all goes as planned I'll swap the sims and get the 2G reactivated on the 2G plan ($20 = unlimited data + 200 txts).

well thats good news. Both of my lines have iphones.. I just checked and now I can get a 3GS for the early upgrade pricing ($400/500). At the very least I would be happy with getting a 4G at those prices, but I would love to get my full upgrade pushed up by then. I just refuse to pay full price for the phone though, its a bit too much for me.

No. Why save when you have parents?

because my parents don't have $600 sitting around!

lmao, you got a point there
