Oh I see. You were on AT&T with the saved unlockable baseband.
What you could do is go to stock 5.1 that will update your baseband. Then restore back to custom 5.0.1 and jb untethered with redsnow.

Yes. I probably wasn't clear enough about that - sorry. My only concern about doing what you're suggesting is that if I go to 5.1 and get whatever bb comes with that, when I go back to 5.0.1 I might get the signal strength display issue again. Basically what I'm trying to do (and it might be impossible) is get to 5.0.1 AND whatever bb version came with 5.0.1.

I should probably just start a new thread in the Hacks section, huh?

I see what you're saying.
I doubt you will have the signal display with new baseband on older firmware.
But unfortunately since apple is not signing 5.0.1 your baseband can never update to the stocks 5.0.1 version.

I tried both the chat on the at&t website and the link provided here which was

However, both representatives stated I need to fax them proof that the phone was purchased at full retail, no commitment pricing. Anyone else experience this?

To be honest, I would say keep trying UNLESS the phone is still on an AT&T account or the account it was on is still active and under contract. They can see if the original account is still under contract so that would throw them off.

If you did buy it for full price from AT&T then you should have it to fax them.

You know I was just thinking about it, it'd probably be worth doing it even if the signal strength issue is there. The way ultrasn0w works is that if you're not on an unlockable baseband, it will simply patch the signal strength display; it will not run the unlocking code. As such, you won't have the VVM or MMS issues that plague ultrasn0w and still have not been acknowledged by the dev team to date

Anyone have problems unlocking their warranted phone? Mine has been swapped out by Apple recently and they said since it doesn't match my receipt they won't unlock. They want proof that it was linked to the previous one which genius bar receipts don't state previous IMEI.

So my phone is randomly losing signal all day. Its like as if the wifi/Bluetooth/cellular chip is restarting. Everything else works normal. Should I bring it to an apple store? Even though my warranty expired Nov. 2011? Or does anyone know the cause of this?

This is the first time this happened to me.

Try a different rep maybe

That seems odd. If you had bought one at full retail, wouldn't you have just bought the unlocked version to begin with. When I did my unlock, I was doing it for an iPhone 4 I had bought on eBay. I even told the rep this when asked and he still unlocked the phone without any hassle.

I agree with the above posters, keep trying until you get a rep that is more helpful.

Agreed with above posters, you should not have to prove purchase price or anything they can look it up via imei to see what it's status within ATT is. Keep trying mate.

Depending on which phone he's referring to, an unlocked phone might not have been available at the time. Even with the 4S - if you didn't buy it as "device only", it stayed locked even at full retail.

Question:

I'm still on 5.0.1 with 4.11.08 BB. I just received the ATT email.

Can I safely update to 5.1 as well as the updating to 4.12 BB without losing the unlock?

If the phone is whitelisted already, it should be okay yes?

easy way to test, just remove your snow breeze or whatever you are using to unlock, reset network settings with sim out and then pop sim back, I am pretty sure that is the quick way without doing a restore to test.

What version of SAM did you guys install? I tried 0.1.14-1 but it gave me an error but version 0.1.10-1 is fine. However, with version 0.1.10 gave me a stockification failure when I click on revert. I have an iPhone 4 IOS 5.0.1 BB 4.11.0.8 JB with latest Redsn0w

Actually the phone is locked right now. There was no unlock for 4.11.08 bb. I am also waiting to pick up a micro-sim card from Tmobile.

So I haven't plugged the phone into iTunes or anything yet.

The iphone4 is jailbroken.

trying to unlock an iphone but they arent responding! have been waiting for the sales person since an hour! any one else getting this problem?

I just got an e-mail yesterday for my out of warranty replacement (for a broken phone I snagged off of eBay) five days earlier than the estimated resolution date. Went ahead and bought another phone, filed it, and filed my sisters as well. AT&T is handling this all very well, I must say.

I called at 1 pm today and was done with the whole process by 1:15. Told them I bought the phone on ebay and everything. Guy said they've been slammed with requests, but it went smoothly. Just have to wait for the email to come through.

I was told I needed to fax in proof of purchase price, too, but I never did. Four days later I got the email saying my case has been reviewed and that my device has been unlocked. I restored in iTunes and it was unlocked. YMMV.
