silly question but just want to confirm.

Once factory unlocked then unlocked forever right?

Yes once unlocked by carrier, it will remain unlocked permanently, even if you restore your phone or update your phone, it will still be unlocked.

Looks like AT&T is steadily plugging all the holes. The link posted in the previous pages of this thread is no longer available for chat. Now you will have to actually log in to your account to chat and chat screen says that if you are trying to get your iPhone unlocked, you will have to provide proof of purchase.

As far as providing proof of purchase, I'm not sure if they are really checking that. I got my AT&T official unlock yesterday (submitted request on 4/20), and all I put down for the P.O.P. was "pre ordered". I didn't even pre order my iPhone 4 under my name on the account, I did it on a line with an eligible uprgrade and transferred the IMEI to my line so I could use the phone with my SIM card.

All in all, the unlock through AT&T went pretty smooth.

Hi just did that SAM step and my phone is unlocked now :) didn't got any conga message but on phone I got that phone is activated

Very Happyyyy now

Thanks guys

i am asked for the proof of purchase! i dont have any proof as the device was gifted to me!! what will happen if i dont send the proof of purchase?? and what is included in the proof?? can some one tell me please thankyou!

I was given Apr 26th and a case no for the unlock request. Is at&t keeping up with the dates?

I called ATT (FAN account) , provided my IMEI number she said she could not find the IMEI number and asked me to wait. after 15 mins another lady answered and she was from Apple and she said she could not provide me an unlock code (the ATT rep was not there in the call). :( have to call again. Is there an easy way other than calling ATT. ?

Yes I got the same date called today it should be resolved the 26th.The rep said its taking a while due to the amount of IMEI's apple has to add to the their whitelist servers

Proof of purchase just means where it was purchased and how much you paid for it, and when it was purchased. Even if you received as a gift from your relatives or whoever got you the iphone, should have given you the receipt as well, just in case if something went wrong and you needed to take it in for an exchange or something.

Placed in 2 requests today around 12 noon.

One was processed and approved, didnt get an email besides the instructions email. I restored it at 7pm, and I got the congrats screen on itunes.

The other was an iphone replacement via AppleCare (a few weeks ago) so I faxed in the receipt from AppleCare today. I will try and restore it and see if it got processed.

How are people getting such quick turnaround times for the unlocks? I called yesterday and got two case numbers w/ a resolution date of May 1st. SMH.

I'm not an AT&T customer so I guess I can't complain too much, but people are getting them unlocked within minutes. Are you guys ATT subscribers?

Are you an At&t customer?

Yes I am an AT&T customer

Maybe we are getting priority. I don't see why they would unlock phones for non customers at all, really. I'd be happy you can do it at all.

Well, I've submitted around 3 or 4 cases for my friends from work but so far I've waited around 11-12 days and only two of them got resolved and for those two I never even got an email confirmation.

I've called to inquire about the rest of the cases and they keep telling me that they are extending wait times to 3-5 more days due to overwhelming number of requests. One of the representatives even told me that she used to get 35-40 calls on a regular day and ever since the unlock requests for iPhones started he's been taking around 80 calls a day from which about 40 are just for unlock requests.

They are quite loaded with these requests and that's why I guess they r taking so long. I guess they also give priority to AT&T customers and legitimate owners of devices.

I have an AT&T account and my 3G unlock request was completed in less than 2 days. I made the request via chat on Sunday afternoon and the confirmation email was sent on Tuesday. I did the restore/upgrade to 4.2.1 (from 4.1) and got the "congratulations" message in iTunes.

FYI, if your iphone is already jailbreak, you don't need itune restore to get the "your iphone has been unlocked" screen, you can install SAM thru cydia, deactivited the phone, plug in to the computer and start itune, and you will get the unlock confirmation.

My expected resolution date was for today (submited the case on April 16), vía chat they said that now due to the high demand of unlock request the wait times have been extended to 7-14 days. So one more week to find out if I will be elegible for the unlock or not (I'm not an at&t customer)

^ that suuuuuuuuuucks. Looks like I'll be having my little brother call up AT&T since he's a customer. Hopefully he'll have luck at getting a quick resolution.

no i dont have the receipt now! what can be done now?

I'm not sure if being an ATT customer has anything to do with it.

I'm an ATT PRIORITY business customer (well the family plan is) and i got the request placed on April 9th, and didn't get it unlocked until 2 days ago.

So... yeah, not sure why people are getting them unlocked within minutes and others have to wait.

Yeah, I am. took 3 days to get my unlock email. They are probably prioritizing AT&T customers with no current account issues. I doubt anyone is still getting them unlocked within minutes though, as the volume of requests is getting pretty big.

Keep trying, all AT&T representatives are different. You'll eventually get one that doesn't care or doesn't ask.
