Anybody get an AT&T sanctioned Unlock?

I have an old (inactive) SIM in my iPhone 4, and I had no trouble getting it unlocked. I plan on using it with a Vodafone SIM in Europe this summer. After that, I will give it to my wife when her 3GS dies. It's nice having an unlocked phone to use overseas. I don't plan on making very many phone calls, but the data plan will be VERY useful during our vacation.

Well thank you, i will keep trying until i get my iphone unlocked

they are asking you about your AT&T account! if you have it well and good if you dont have it then you wont be able to unlock the iPhone!

Sold my 4s today... sat down with the buyer as he called AT&T to unlock it for international use. Got on the phone with the rep to verify my account/previous ownership. It isn't instant since he is now waiting for an email from AT&T with further instructions.

Does Apple have factory unlocked iPhone 4 in the store?

The scenario is basically, broken screen on my current phone, want to get AT&T to unlock phone, go to apple to get phone replaced, wonder if they will give me an unlocked phone since I would own an legit unlocked phone.

If your iPhone is unlocked by AT&T, it is legitimately unlocked. Non legitimately would be jailbreaking and unlocking that way.

I got my iPhone 4S unlocked. I honestly think it was a fluke though.

So did I. The very same week they started unlocking. However I figured I will wait with my wife's 4S. So after they unlocked mine I tried again with her 4S. I was informed that since the phone is still on contract they cant unlock it. I think they changed policy. We just managed to unlock ours before.

BTW anyone knows whats the current wait? I asked them to unlock my sister's iPhone 4 on Wednesday night and still no email.

A lot of the time, you won't get an email. So try restoring after 2 or 3 days and see what happens. As long as they didn't flat out deny you over the phone/chat, there's a good chance it went through.

I bought an iPhone 4 off of CowBoom, called up AT&T. Asked them if I could get it unlocked as I was giving it to my mother for mothers day and they checked the account is used to be linked too. A day later I got this email:

Dear Customer:

Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding your AT&T service. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. The issue has been resolved.

Should you have any further needs regarding this issue, please do not hesitate to call us at 1 800 331-0500 and reference the tracking number shown above.

Sincerely,
AT&T

I was told the previous owner completed their contract, and I most likely would be recieving the unlock by the 18th. Once I got that email I just restored in iTunes with my mom's T-Mobile SIM in it and it unlocked/activated just fine.

Notes:
Used to be an AT&T customer in 2009/2010. Mentioned that in the phone call.
Never got the email stating how to unlock.
Took less than a day for the unlock to go through.
My mom loves her new iPhone.
I trashed her old water damaged, cracked, dying phone that "works just fine for her".

I have a question: when restoring to get "your iPhone has been unlocked.." do I need to restore (as in upgrade iOS) or can I just restore from back up which will preserve current iOS version. Reason I ask is my sister iPhone 4 is still on 4.2.1 and I would rather keep it that way since i'm afraid iOS5 is not native to iPhone 4. With my 4S i just restored with upgrading.

Well if you just deactivate it via redsnow and activate it again u will get the unlock message. And btw there is no harm in upgrading the 4 to iOS 5 as it works perfectly fine no problems what so ever at my end. Best of luck though:)

And as far as restore it concerned it will be upgraded once you click on restore!

I was able to get unlocked by erasing all content & settings from the iphone . When i connected to itunes afterwards i got the unlock confirmation .

Note : Do not use this method if you are jailbroken as it will cause the iphone to get caught in a recovery loop.

nope even after upgrading still no unlock screen. I will wait for their email. Sucks some people claim they get unlock within minutes of asking for it

Hi all,

Is anyone of you guys an AT&T customer? In that case I was wondering if you could help me get my iPhone unlocked? I tried emailing them but they said they can't unlock iPhones for non-AT&T customers.

If it helps, I could also pay a fee for helping me out.

Please :)
