Yeah, I did it because not only did I want to, but I also wanted to correct these mistakes I feel I made when I purchased the M4. So, I got nano-texture and cellular this time. Thankfully, not having to buy any accessories is a minor plus.
The mistake I want to correct from M4 to M5 is going with the 8GB RAM model, which now reloads virtually as often as my 4GB iPads did back in iPadOS 15. I have the cellular and no interest in nanotexture, as I mainly use it indoor and I care more about smudges than reflections, and with the nano the smudges (and more, since I often use the iPad in the kitchen) are harder to clean since it's not recommended to use cleaning liquid.
The big question is will 12GB correct the mistake or not.
And the answer probably is, for now it will but future updates make cause reloads at some point like it happened with previsous models. And the dilemma is, update again at that point or spend 600 more now to get a longer lifespan (but miss the future hardware features and a new battery...)

I’m still using an M1 and I’m not seeing such a reload behavior as you are reporting

Me neither on an 8 GB M4 (but frankly I hate having tons of tabs opening to begin with). I wouldn’t get any Mac or Windows laptop with less than 16 GB (I have an 18 GB M3 Pro, but if I was in the market for a new one I’d problably go for 24 - 32 GB model). But for iPads, I frankly fail to see why it would be needed outside of very specific use cases. Even with iPad OS 26.1 Beta, this thing is performing like a champ. Will it eventually need more? Yes, but that’s still far off, and by then problably I would have upgraded to a more compelling model anyway.

I got my m5 today, coming from m4. The Main reason was the 120hz support on external, i really cant stand 60hz Displays anymore. So i can now ditch my Mac in office and carry my daily driver around with me

I am and I am not the only one if you read other posts/comments. I am not seeing any issues on my M1 16GB but definitely on 8GB devices. I ended up buying the base model M5 (12GB RAM) and will be selling the M4. Should be good for a few years.

As I said above, that's my experience and I am not alone. I don't keep tons of tabs open, just 5-6, but not all tabs take the same amount of RAM. I have the 24GB M3 air and my Windows desktop has 32GB (and I also have a second, M1 Mini desktop, with 16GB). Performance is perfectly fine with 8GB, reloads are the issue for me. I got the 12GB M5, will see how it is when it arrives tomorrow.

Yup there's already a lineup at my Best Buy with over 400 people all waiting to get rid of their outdated M4 iPads for the new M5. People are self conscious and need the latest and greatest.

Not going to upgrade. Got the M4 11" Cellular version 3 months ago. Very happy with it. The increase in charging speed is good. But overall no reason for me to upgrade from the M4. Also have to see how the C1X chip affects cellular speeds. Currently extremely happy with the cellular network speeds I am getting on my iPad.
How much ram does yours have?

13” M4 to 11” M5.

Had 11” prior. Switched to 13” for the M4 since the screen size drew me in. I thought it would be easier to take notes and use as a productivity machine with the Magic Keyboard. Amazing screen and was fun to use.

However, I end up gravitating to my MBP for anything work related and the iPad is primarily a tablet or for the bed. The 13” was too cumbersome especially in portrait mode. Perfect if it stays on your table all day.

Bestbuy offer for trade-in $858 for the M4 13" 256 GB, the final price after the discounts and SoCal taxes... is $585 dlls for a 13" M5 256 GB... is not a bad deal...
Wow, Apple where I lived offered me $400 for the 256 cellular M4. Fortunately I found a friend who will take it for around $900 so that the upgrade to the equivalent model M5 in the end will only cost me around $350-400 (instead of $1000 if I went for the 1TB model)

How long did it take for you to confirm that each one of those were exchanging M4 iPads?

Immediately. I went up to each one saying I was with law enforcement and I need to see their ID and their iPad boxes.

Very happy with the nano texture display. Now I need new Studio Displays with it.

It's fun watching everyone suddenly want nano texture (aka "matte") displays when a ton on the forums were arguing against matte displays when these first released. I prefer matte myself going as far as getting matte-glass screen protectors for my iPads.

I don’t know if it’s funny or people are trying them out for themselves and realizing that they like them. But either way, they are great.

I prefer matte displays but I don't want the nano. I much prefer the matte displays that you can find on Windows touchscreens like Thinkpads that don't take smudges like the nano does. Or even the matte screen protectors, that, although not as good as the nano or as native matte displays, don't take fingerprints either. The fact that nano takes smudges and fingerprints so easily is a deal breaker for me, like is the fact that I cannot use cleaning liquid to clean it. Or that it scratches more easily than standard glass. And sure fan will say it's not a big deal, but no thanks. I like matte but not nano on a tablet.

Never seen a single reload with 5/6 tbs opened. It’s quite strange

As I mentioned elsewhere mine are destktop versions of sites, which take more RAM, several GMAIL desktop pages, several youtube desktop pages, etc. I tested the same tabs on a Mac and they can take a couple of GB by themselves. Add to that a couple of GB for the OS and the browser itself. They don't reload when I swich between them but if I open other apps (Word, Outlook, Em client, dropbox, jump desktop, files, some ecommerce apps, onenote, my newspaper etc.) and come back to safari, often some of my tabs are reloaded.
