I meant if you didn't get it on the previous model and now want it. Since I was replying to a comment about reasons to upgrade from M4 to M5.There is no change from the M4 regarding the nano-texture option.
That’s not a reason to upgrade to the M5 specifically, though. You could upgrade to a nano-texture model just the same if the M5 didn’t exist. If you cite that, you can also cite RAM, cellular option, different color, …I meant if you didn't get it on the previous model and now want it. maybe go read the comment I replied to, and maybe you'll pick up on the context finally. Reading comprehension is a lost art. That’s not a reason to upgrade to the M5 specifically, though. I now realize the original poster did some of that.

I now realize the original poster did some of that. It just doesn’t make much sense as an argument to me. You can always upgrade to different options.
Where I live I have no difficulties “trading in” Apple hardware to commercial resellers at a similar (often higher) price than what Apple offers for trade in. I never actually traded in with Apple for that reason. Moreover, you can get like-new (sometimes unopened) iPad Pro M4s for 20-25% below list price. Not exactly true. Two weeks of use and a year of use can tell different stories - one might be thrilled with their 13" unit for a month only to find they hate carrying it the next. Too late to return and buy a larger unit, and who can afford another otherwise identical iPad in 2025?
M5 being available means you can trade in to Apple and recuperate some of your investment towards a new tablet that better suits your needs.
Nah not really, M4 is already enough for me to do all the tasks i want it to do. I’ll plan on getting the M4 ipad air in the future since the ipadOS 26 was so good for me personally.I guess not many other than a chip upgrade is there much else happening? I’m surprised they still do yearly updates im sure the took a break a few years back?
Even the basic iPad offers little over the 10th and the 12th expected to be same. Why update yearly?
Apple has added an an option for OLED devices for PWM smoothing so that should be a resolving factor.I'm upgrading M4 to M5.
I normally skip a few generations with iPads, but I've absolutely hammered my M4 over the last 16 months. Battery health is down to 90% and I've managed to pick up a few light scratches on the display and casing 😅
Opted to trade-in my M4 and start fresh with a new M5.
If not for the wear, I'd be happy to stick with my M4 for a couple more years. It's a great device 👍
Side note: I'm prone to migraines (the full works - nausea, auras, brain fog, intense pain etc.) and things like bright lights do a number on me. Sitting in front of any display (CRT, CCFL/LED backlit LCD, OLED etc.) with the brightness cranked too high will wipe me out. Strobing light (e.g. sunlight flickering through trees while driving) can get me, too.
I've never had issues with PWN, though 🤔
Not saying this to discredit people claiming issues with PWM, but it's worth considering all possibilities if you're experiencing issues 🙏
Yeah, that's the kind of reply I expected, you have no proof it's sofware-locked so it's just your guess. The iPad Pro M4 did come with 12GB as shown in the teardown. 2x 6 GB LPDDR5X SDRAM memory [Artificiality] locked at 8GB.
The condensed FBGA codes for Micron's RAM modules are clearly seen on the teardowns. The 16GB iPad, sure enough, contains 16GB of Micron LPDDR5 RAM. But the 8GB model has two 48Gbit modules onboard. 48 gigabits converts to 6 gigabytes, meaning the lower-grade iPad Pro model has 12GB of RAM available from its RAM module. But in use, the iPad Pro has only its advertised 8GB RAM accessible.

As far as disabled cores, no. That's why Apple went with a binned/unbinned chip.

No, you just gave me the evidence that there are 12GB RAM, not that the missing 4GB are software locked, you don't know if they are disabled in hardware or in software but instead of admitting it you play deaf as if you don't understand what I am saying and insist as if I am denying there are 12GB. Why do people have to be like that?Buddy. I gave you the evidence. I gave to the official teardown. If you still refuse to not accept it, fine.
They crank the fab to the next chip, cheaper to buy in bulk vs maintain two production lines.I guess not many other than a chip upgrade is there much else happening? I’m surprised they still do yearly updates im sure the took a break a few years back?

If all people use their iPad iOSs for is media and some apps browsing yeah it’s enough
It’s a must for me I’ve got 280 Cycles and like 87% battery capacity so.I guess not many other than a chip upgrade is there much else happening? I’m surprised they still do yearly updates im sure the took a break a few years back?
