I'm not even sure that all the hype for the iPad 3 was even warranted. It's not like it's a new device. It's the same old, same old.

The average person would not notice a retina screen even if you told them the difference. It still wouldn't be able to play high definition videos. It won't even be better than your laptop.

The only reason I'm interested in the next iPad is because I don't believe the rumors.

Just because your eyesight sucks and you can't appreciate a retina display doesn't mean you have to generalize about the "average person" not being able to tell the difference. Yeah ****ing right bro. People are going to go nuts for this.

So by this logic all the hype that will undoubtedly surround the iPhone 6G will not be warranted because it's "not a new device?"

And of course an average person with any sort of adequate eyesight will be able to tell the difference in the text between a 2048 X 1536 screen 9.7" and a 1024 X 768 screen 9.7". There's a huge difference between an iphone 3GS and an iPhone 4 and there will be a similar difference in this case.

No, you can't even tell in the commercials.

I see the retina display very clearly. And I'm over it. Retina display is so 2011.

I don't think you fully grasp what a huge deal, having a screen with that high a resolution really is, on. 9.7" screen.

First off... Nice Avatar :)

As far as the hi-res display is concerned, yes it's nice and many will be wowed.

But for those of us professionals that have had the pleasure of using one on our workstation laptops over the last few years, the display is something we've gotten used to and expect.

Once the "newness" wears off it's like anything else, nice but not life changing.

I only wish I could get it on my MacBook Pro, that would be great :)

The retina display was introduced in 2010 in the iPhone and now presumably 2012 with the iPad 3/HD. You say that the iPad3 is overhyped. Would you rather Apple keeps the current resolution? I don't get your logic. The retina display has been the most significant upgrade the iPhone has received since the iPhone has been introduced, IMO.
So Apple shouldn't upgrade their products because it is hard to notice the difference when you are seeing their ads on TV? That makes a lot of sense...

"Somewhat curious" more than "excited".

I've already spent too much money with Apple this year (iPad 2 and Mac Mini), and they're not getting any more of my money for a while.

Anyway, I like my iPad 2. . . Let's see what the iPad 5 is like and think again :)

Its not really a new product, it's just a product upgrade, which doesn't deserve the hype or the keynote. I'm curious because since it is a Keynote, they must be introducing something worthwhile. The iPad with the better screen, wow. If that's all it is, I won't watch ONE review. Retina screen? We saw that last year.

At least let it be thinner, better battery new buttons, new logo- something.

Ditto.

Me. Not one bit. I've had the iPad 2 for months now and barely used it. Planning on selling it... First days, I was eager to use it and carried it around everywhere. Then, it started to become annoying and lame. Plus, it is really difficult to carry around.

Since I carry my MBA daily, I feel the same way as you do about the current iPad.

What I'd like is a 7" model for ease of carrying, less weight added to my laptop bag, and even easier all around.

Clearly majority of the people don't share the same opinion as I do.

To be honest, the iPad has been the only Apple product i've been "meh" about ever since the initial launch.

MacBook Pro + iPhone combo is enough for me! My iPad 2 is something i use in the morning and right before i go to bed.

Having just been given an iPad 2 64GB/3G on Christmas I was stressed out that something revolutionary might come out in a few months.

Now that it's come I'm glad I didn't flip my new iPad 2 for this update. I will be all over the next update but something nuts like quad core and could run OSX and had waterproof internals so my kids could spill on it no worries like some other pad devices would have made me make the switch.

I have never had an iPhone and I have to say I am much more excited for what is next with the iPhone then I am about what would be next with the iPad.

I would however one day be happy to ditch any kind of laptop device for a pad device that is capable of running the current version of OSX. I would just pic up one of the cases that can hold a miniature bluetooth keyboard and nearly never use a laptop or desktop ever. We'll be there soon.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9B179 Safari/7534.48.3)

I don't have or want an iPad, so I'm not excited about the iPad 3 lol. I'm excited about the iPhone 5 though :p

As it turns out I could've very well bought an iPad 2 two months ago and still be happy about it. In fact, I can still buy one now.

There was all this speculation about a missing bezel and it turns out they're using the exact same parts. I'm not even sure that these are new parts. You can build a new iPad out of an iPad 2. I highly doubt you'll be seeing any difference. Colors in photos are 44% richer? I could have used the Photoshop app for that.

Yes, I'm mad. I wanted the latest and greatest. This is not the latest or the greatest.

If you want to talk about penny pinching, the iPad 2 is for you, but anyone who is spending cash on this instead of waiting for something else just has disposable income to get rid of.

It's not just an "HD screen." The reports from the launch event have referenced how using it was almost weird. It's going to be a truly remarkable experience, and you're obviously a little pressed that you're missing out.

I'm excited because it'll be my first iPad :D

Congrats! Welcome to the party!

Keys to owning an iPad:

  • Enjoy it
  • Don't let stupid people tell you how to use it.
  • It can do content creation. Hell, it can do whatever you want it to do, so once again, don't let stupid people tell you how to use it.
  • Love it, cherrish it, and marry it. :D

Good grief, nobody said it was "life changing"

I'm happy to update because there are already apps in the app store that won't run on my iPad 1.

Life changing? Good grief

Even if the iPad 3 didn't overwhelm, I'm glad to see Apple pushing the technological boundaries. Good for all us consumers.

retina display makes dealing with a larger 9.7" display bearable. slowly getting used to this form factor, the larger keys make typing a breeze, as if I am running under handicap mode. Still miss my 7" play book sometimes, but the screen quality of the new iPad is unmatched.

iPad 3-only apps are coming out, I guess?

My boss bought an app for her kid on the iPad 2, to discover that the app was only available for the iPad 3! So...you know what else she bought for her kid that day...

An app not available for the iPad 2?....do tell us.
