I have a fenix 6 Pro Sapphire, and to be honest, it's going up for sale. The OHR is pretty much crap unless you have either something like an OH1 (which I do), or a chest strap for any kind of near accurate heart rate during an activity. The SpO2 readings I found to be off enough to cause alarm unless checked with my iHealth finger device, and to be honest, the only "good" thing that I will miss is the "everything in one place" feature of Garmin Connect. For a piece of kit that cost over $800, it's surely not that much better than my Apple Watch series 4 with WorkOutdoors, in fact, the "relative GPS Strength" feature of WOD is even better than the Garmin. Just my opinion, and to be honest, most of the features of the Garmin I don't/can't use, I'm not training for anything, except to shed a few pounds, and perhaps improve my health, cardio, and strength, and for me, the AW works just fine.

I get your points, I really do, but I've had enough problems with the AW to know it's not perfect either. FWIW, I can write a similar list for F6.
  • Intervals have alway been a problem, although, WorkOutDoors, may, have solved this for me. iSmoothRun had too many bugs for me.
  • Touch screen is a problem, and, when wearing long sleeves in a workout volume can be accidentally adjusted.
  • I've had crazy screwy GPS tracks at times. Have to make sure you get away from the phone and have GPS lock (WorkOutDoors helps here).
  • I once had an award pop up during a workout that led to personal best. I happened to have my Fenix on so I got a record of it, but lost the AW track because of that.
  • Apple Health is on the right track, in a lot of ways, but it's clumsy. Apple products often suffer from interfaces that are too clever by half or are just sloppy.
  • Battery life. With a S4 I was able to do 2 days and could keep the watch running during the week with just charging while showering. That's gone with the S5 which basically has to sit on the charger for an hour / day (I know that's a slight exaggeration, but not a big one).
  • Everything is a 3rd party app. OK, Garmin has almost no 3rd party apps, and it's a feature, but it means your data is in a lot of places, not all of which are secure. Hi, MyFitnessPal (ironically, Garmin works with them and almost no one else for dietary information).
WorkOutDoors is the one truly bright spot in all of this because it is really good and it almost saves the AW by itself.

I want to sell my F6X, I'd still get $600 for it, but the AW just isn't good enough in it's current iteration that I can feel good about it.

I feel the same exact way .. I’m keeping my 6 sapphire and AW5 , love them both and I’ll keep rotating them during the week ... can’t beat the stats that garmin provides ...

I hadn't considered Polar, but the Grit X, just released, is very interesting. It doesn't have contactless payments, or music (big negative) but it's got everything else for $429.99. DCRainmaker said there were some bugs with HR but they'll, probably iron them out (because Garmin did, right) or just use the strap I already have. You could use that watch and an AW (Music and Apple Pay) and still pay less than I did for my F6X Solar.

Good to read this. I’ve toyed with getting a Fenix 6s for a few months, as I have a 30% off coupon. I mainly want a good build quality watch that is presentable for daily wear, long battery life, always on screen, GPS and good HR info, and all my data in one place. If you have a Fenix 6, how accurate do you find the OHR to be?

I just am not sure how much I’d miss my stainless steel Apple Watch Series 4. I’ve had every Apple Watch except the series 5. My debate is whether to get a Fenix 6s or wait for the series 6.
where can one get a coupon?

after using my watch for a work out today I finally see my activity rings move with the garmin workouts , but the strange thing is that once I was close to my Apple Watch it updated , probably means nothing but it is just weird... but the good thing so far is I don’t need any work around for it and I can easily use garmin for intense workouts and Apple Watch daily and not worry about data sync .. cross fingers it stays this way lol

Update, please if someone is having issues with Apple ring updates try this.... keep your watch on the side or on a charger . Do a work out with garmin , now check your activity app you should see the garmin activity done but rings not updated ... now grab your Apple Watch and unlock the screen ... go back to your activity app and the rings are updated LOL... crazy, glitch or just my device I don’t know ...

This worked for me today. I did a bike ride with my Fenix 6x pro and upon my return the steps, stand and activity rings got updated but only based on the data related to the specific activity and the two hours of tracking that followed.

interesting!

Awesome , strange way for it to work but it’s easier than most other ways I’ve read ..

Those of you with Fenix 6 models, have you noticed the OHR getting more accurate and consistent with firmware updates? I believe that I read some reviews saying that accuracy for it has gotten much better. (Maybe DCRainmaker is what I read..??)

Correction: steps aren't getting synced. The move and exercise rings do get filled up and the calories and active minutes get logged.

Same just the steps don’t sync as far as I can tell...

So, you would not be okay with only your Fenix? I’m thinking from your post that the answer is no, but I wanted to ask.

Me personally no because I love my Apple stuff and I’ll keep upgrading each year , but for my workouts I love the fenix and for any outdoor things I love the fenix , so for me the best of both worlds ... I think it will take Apple a few more years to get to where garmin is for the workout data ...

I want a 6 or a delta but my fenix 5 is still going strong with about 3400 running miles on it. The HR is comp to my AW4. I’m very attached to connect and love my data automatically syncing to strava without jumping through hoops so garmin wins. Also have the RD pod and Foot pod all three work in sync perfectly. The case has some wear and tear but the sapphire screen is still flawless even after multiple bangs on things that I thought surely would give it some sort of ding.

What type of bad do you use with it ? I see they sell metal bands similar to the Apple one

I use the silicone bands similar to the one that came with it. I’ve had to buy multiple bands though as the first two that came with it (black, green) both wore through at the hole I typically wear it. I’m not complaining as the bands took abuse through all the sporting events. I’ve since ordered about 3/4 off of amazon (not OEM) and have to say they’ve lasted as long as the originals so they are a go in my book.

Wow looks good, I may grab another silicone band for back up... I’ll still to the metal bands for Apple Watch Since I use my garmin for more sports and training

I think the 6 is a good product, even though I rip on it. But the thing is, the 5 offered enough that it makes you question the need for a 6. Sure, you get Music, PulseOx and NFC but they all have at least small issues. Music is cumbersome to sync, PulseOx has questionable accuracy (ballpark) and the payments don't work everywhere (but neither does the AW). I've spent a lot of time with podcasts when I run but I could do without them too.

I guess I'm sort of saying that I don't really need the Fenix that I have, well, considering it's Solar, yeah, definitely don't need that much Fenix.

Wish the solar came in 47mm , the next size is way to big for me.... I would love to have that solar back up .

If you are outside a lot, in a warm climate, it might make sense. But, at night, when it rains, is cold, the sleeves cover it and you don't get anything from it. The battery life on it is so good that, really most people would never need it. Maybe an ultra or something where that extra 10% might be the difference? It'll never matter for me except I can go a week without charging and pulseOx running.
