Where did you manage to get your hands on one this early? I've actually been waiting for Visio's forway into the PC market, and thinking of picking up one of their laptops. Did you get to play with one of them too, and if so, is it built any better than the desktop?

i haven't gotten to play with this gadget yet but my opinions were based on how it looks and what it could possibly have inside that tiny casing as its base.... really a terrible product

----------

I actually kinda like the design. Obviously somewhat inspired by the iMac and a knockoff (which is very common with the competitors) but it doesn't look bad. Kinda looks like a TV.

what have you been smoking on. now i know why Jobs hand picked Ive. people can't just say "I kinda like it," if anything, it should look amazing or nothing at all. also one cannot say that a product doesn't look bad, because chances are it does, please don't sympathize for companies without taste. :D

It's not an iMac. It's a Wannabe Copy Cat Pretender*. I think that someone needs to start WannabeCopyCatPretenderRumors.com so that these threads have a home.

- David

* it is, arguably, a nice copy cat design. I just have no interest for it and its non-OSX environment on an Apple site..

iMac is a pretty face with a f u attitude. No hdd access is insulting. I gave up on iMacs last year. I can live with the cpu and gpu as not diy. No hdd access turned me off. I am very handy with diy and have swapped out many hdds in many mac minis. Even the 2010 mini is easier then an iMac if the drive dies.

//end of 4 year long rant\\

As for the post
The 27 inch vizio and the 24 inch vizio both lack wall mounting as an option oh well. I am thinking apple tv 40 inch for christmas.

No opinion on its, its an option for people who want to Run Windows, and want an all in one. Its nothing more and Nothing less.

Believe it or not, there are many many people who prefer Windows over OSX.

By that logic, no one should ever buy the Macbook Air or the Mac Mini because they're so tiny, and decent components can't possibly fit in them. And the Unibody Macbook Pro, because it looks just like a cross between an HP and Sony, would be a worthless piece of crap.

what logic are you implying here? no one is stopping you from buying one of these, like no one is stopping anyone from buying anything. if you solely believe that you will be extremely satisfied with one this, go right ahead.

What logic? It was just a thoughtless comment by an apple fanboi (which by the way is the reason people dislike them). If it isn't apple, it must suck, figure out why later.

there is nothing that says "If it isn't apple, it must suck," it is you who is implying it here. there are many decent PCs out there that can match a Mac or even beat it. for example, the new Dell XPS 8500 powers an i7 3770 processor with 16GB RAM, 2TB HDD + 32GB SSD SRT, 7870 2GB graphics card, blueray combo, 27" monitor for less that $1700. next time, please try not to be so dogmatic about such small issues.

It makes sense to compare a $500 computer to a $1500 computer and then decide the $500 computer sucks because it doesn't measure up.

You made a decision about this thing without any facts at all...

"opinions were based on how it looks and what it could possibly have inside that tiny casing as its base.... really a terrible product "

Backtrack all you want, you just look silly. However, it looks a lot better when you end posts with the smug glasses. Make sure you keep that up in the future.

I doubt it'll compete with the iMac. I don't mind the look of it, but I think it'll be very gimped hardware-wise since it's all in the base. Integrated graphics, 1080p resolution for the 27 inch model, dual-core processor, blah, blah. It's not really even comparable, the Vizio might appeal to someone looking for a cheap (I assume it's cheap) all-in-one, whereas the cheapest iMac available is $1199.

Next iMac will be beast.

Reading the marketing refer to 1080p resolution on a computer display as though it's a good thing was pretty hilarious.

i suggest that you kindly read my first post on this thread. i clearly stated that anyone with a low budget will buy this, "people with low budget and people who are satisfied with laptop quality performance with a bigger display will buy this."

a custom built PC can measure up to any brand-name computer in the market; therefore your comment, "compare a $500 computer to a $1500 computer and then decide the $500 computer sucks because it doesn't measure up," does not take effect. have you heard of hackintosh yet? cheaper macs. why would you make some sort of an argument like this?

please prove me wrong when the specs actually come out stating that this product has amazing specs..... i will humbly accept it.

i don't recall backtracking anywhere. i stated my opinion, someone argued without having any point, and they overlooked that i said in my first post that people with low budgets will buy it.

a simple note, please do keep making unnecessary comments in the future.

Design looks ok. I always associated Vizio with poor people who can't afford a decent flat screen so they get the crappiest cheap one at walmart.

I'm simply implying the logic used by this poster. Perhaps you know him?

Honestly, it looks like a good computer and I would like to have it. Of course I already have everything I need in the iMac with Windows and OS X, but I'm not gonna trash talk other machines just because they don't have an :apple: on it. I've grown so used to my Mac that if I were to buy another Windows-PC it would probably be a sleek "iMac knockoff" like this one.

Huh? The current 21" imacs have the same resolution. It is also better resolution than the macbook pros (aside from the retina) and the macbook airs.

I think the resolution on the current MBA's is pretty nice - and the MBA's resolution isn't as good as the vizio.

Jesus, I am a longtime Mac fan, but I absolutely cannot stand the apple fanboyism in this thread.

Yeah it's pretty sickening.

Regards to the Vizio product in question, it looks like they are innovating at price point where there is allot of junk, I think they will go far.

The bad:
Vizio: Low quality screen (1080P at 27").
Vizio: 5400rpm HDD (hybrid? 32G SSD Option?)
Vizio: Nvidia 640m "LE"... I don't know what the "LE" means, but it's probably not good. It's not comparable to a stock 640m.

Code:
A slower core clock of only 500 MHz differs the LE-model from a normal GT 640M. Watch out: Following rumors, there will also be a Fermi-based version (96 shaders, 762 MHz, DDR3/GDDR5, similar to 550M/555M) with a probably higher power consumption than the Kepler variant.

Vizio: Might not be able to take more than 8GB. Specs list 2 slots, but max-RAM spec is "N/A"
Vizio: 1GB Vram
Vizio : No Thunderbolt

In Vizio's favor, I do see them list 2 HDMI "Inputs", meaning that it may be trivial to plug your PS3/XBOX360 into the thing. Aside from that, it looks like a PC you would be fooled into buying at Sears.

A good resolution for a 15" or 21" display is not necessarily that great on a 27" display.

If it doesn't run OS X without hacks, it's not an iMac.

We pay the price premium for native OS X compatibility more than for the hardware, though some may place some extra value on Apple products simply for their aesthetics.

It should be obvious that it's not made as a competitor to the iMac.

I really like their attitude:

Vizio reboots the PC (theverge.com)

“I HATE OPENING A PC AND SEEING STICKERS AND FLASHING LEDS ALL OVER THE PLACE.”

clean Windows builds

“We're not even trying to compete with Apple,” says McRae. “The gap in the market is premium Windows consumers.”

Finally someone who gets it.

It will still require "hacks".

But -- the hacks that are required are growing simpler.

I sense that before too long, we will see "one or two click" solutions to converting PC's like the Vizio into a Mac (provided one has a copy of the Mac OS with which to do so).

A couple of years ago, I brought my (then computerless) sister into the Mac world by installing Snow Leopard onto a Dell Mini 10v. At the time, I had no previous knowledge of how to do this, but with a few software tools and the help of some web pages, I got OS X up and running reliably on the netbook. It still boots and runs 10.6.4 just fine.

The entire "hackintosh" experience is getting -easier-, not more difficult.

Yes, there are limitations vis-a-vis owning a "real Mac".

But the space between "real" and "almost-real" is narrowing.

Agree...the "clean windows build" is a clean version of W7 as if you did an OEM install. Only the drivers needed to run the OS on that PC will be installed. No bloatware, spyware, 'HP/Dell/Whatever' named memory hogs loading up and populating your tray.

Using a small SSD for the OS and swap file is very good idea. Only the stuff you immediately need access to load and the read times are way faster than any HDD.

And the macfanboy ism's on this thread are awesome...
