Personally I agree with you. I think the iPad 2 launch is one of the most disappointing ones in recent memory.

I agree.

I was determined to buy the ipad2... I was sure it was going to be an improvement over the first, and have been waiting since june!

Same! I think I'll update my powerbook to a 13" MBP with the money I have been saving to get iPad 2.

I saw the notes and the specks and went , so when i saw the refurbished ones for 350, I bought 2 of those INSTEAD! ...
Yeah yeah, so you spent more money on two old, used iPads instead of one new iPad 2... I kinda' doubt it, but it does seem typical of the kind of talk people seem to do on a forum to raise attention.

This update has not exceeded even the lowest expectations, why would anyone change his/her mind then?

Agreed, that's me too. I'm extremely happy with my iPad 1. I don't see the value in selling this, and buying the iPad 2. I don't feel like getting into the habit of buying a new iPad every year. I'll wait to see what the iPad 3 has to offer in the course of time.

If I didn't already have an iPhone 4 with it's camera, then I would consider buying the iPad 2. I still may have to for work development reasons, but for personal use, I still find the iPad 1 to be useful and not lacking in any areas. Although the faster speed would be nice for faster flipping of PDF documents as it's still a bit slow and the lighter weight will make it much easier for reading, but I can wait a year for the next update.

The next update with the rumored larger screen is the one I will for sure buy.

My other issue is that I want to buy the new MacBook Pro so I'll probably use my funds for that.

Considering I don't have an iPad I will be picking one up. I just don't know if I want to order it and have it shipped, or take my chances and try going to a store. How fast did the original iPad 16GB Wi-Fi sell out initially? Were there lines? I don't remember how the initial sale went.

If you already know you want it, ALWAYS pre-order. ALWAYS. There is no advantage to going to the store, only greater hassle. Just show up at your front door in your jammies that morning and collect your loot from the mailman!

I wasn't going to but this is a pretty big bump up in specs. Not as radical as Iphone 3gs - Iphone 4, but impressive for a first year product. My sense is that for me ---

- I do really see myself shooting video or facetime.
- I don't use Imovie or garage band all that much thus the new apps aren't a big deal
- I have several games but I'm not a big player)
- For my primary use (surfing, e-mail, reading, taking notes, bringing documents at meeting without printing, watching videos) IP1 continues to work amazingly well.
- I still have a Iphone 3gs and will update this year. So there's that expense.

I realize this is a very individualized choice. Honestly, if any ONE of the above were not true I'd probably go for it.

I really don't understand the all the moaning. Granted IP2 doesn't have every conceivable update that every person in world wanted, but there is a lot -- thinner, lighter, much faster, 2 cameras, HDMI out all at the same price. Plus some very sophisticated IP2 only apps.

I have a 16G iPad WiFi+3G. It's loaded with apps, pictures, a movie....all which take up alot of space. So rather than upgrade to a 32G or 64G, I think I will purchase the new iPad 2 16G, but just WiFi only. But I'm definitely keeping my original iPad, a backup.

I tried hard to not get my hopes up high for todays reveal. What was announced seemed pretty cool, the new design being one of the bigger things for me, it just seems so beautiful, and I really look forward to seeing and holding iPad 2.

Mainly, I'm just hoping for an adequate amount of RAM for better multitasking and browsing harder, as I always find myself just wanting to pick up and use my iPad as my daily surfing device, the experience is just too enjoyable. I find myself getting a little frustrated with the constant page reloading and occasional application crashing.

Another mistake I guess I made last year was opting for the Wi-Fi model instead of 3G. I just don't find myself around wifi enough to use my device for my needs. My iPhone battery is always low with heavy use wherever I go, and much rather use iCab on the iPad. Putting my iPad 64 WiFi on craiglist tonight and hoping to get a decent price to opt for the iPad with 3G this time. I'm hoping the upgrade solves my browsing woes, if that won't be an issue anymore, I don't think I could be any happier with the iPad experience for now. I absolutely love this device.

I will buy an iPad2 in March, an iPad3 in September, etc.. You can never have too many iPads laying around.

What's the lowest expectation?? It met my expectation! It did not exceed my expectation, but I am excited and want to upgrade.

The cameras aren't a feature I'll be using much, if ever. That's all I was expecting in the iPad 2, but it's faster, thinner, lighter and available in white. I know I won't be able to resist.

I'll first have to sell my 16GB on Craigslist. I was thinking about waiting a while until the glut dies down, but it's free to list so why not try now? If I don't get an offer I'm comfortable with, I don't have to accept it, right?

all they did was speed it up, add cameras, and make it thinner.

my ipad is fast, does what i need it to do. i will have no use what so ever for the cameras on it. an so what if its thinner?

i don't think i'd even update if it had a retina screen, although i'd be tempted. but tbh i don't use my ipad alot. anyway iphone 5 is what im interested in :)

i was adamant i was gonna keep my current gen iPad and wait it out until iPad 3 next year. i made the mistake of looking on Apples site to see if there was any news of them uploading the media event for me to watch when i finished work, saw the new front page and now i'm in the process of selling my old macbook and iPad for the new one :p i'm turning into a magpie more and more every day when it comes to Apple.

i also have a feeling that iOS5 might leave the iPad1 somewhat lacking when it's released.

Lots of people set up their expectations based on weeks of rumors and speculation. They build a picture in their mind of what the next version should be. Then when the reality doesn't match the (unfounded) expectations, they're disappointed.

Yes, one must avoid that Siren call that is Apple.com

I admit, there's temptation. Newer, faster, slimmer, lighter, shinier (?maybe?). The magnet actuated sleep mode is nice, it should see good implementation in aftermarket cases as well.

Yet the reality is that today my ipad1 continues to do everything I use it for just as well as it did yesterday and the day before. I'm pretty sure it will do the things I need it to do just as well next week and next month too. Would an ipad2 do them faster? Probably. Would it make a real world difference in the things I do? No.

The risk, as you note, is that iOS5 may offer features/capabilities that don't work well on an ipad1. When/if that happens I will reevaluate. Until then I'll just continue using my ipad1.

I could not have said it better myself, though personally when they start adding 3G to the airs, I may just drop iPad altogether. For now though I anxiously await news of iphone 5.

The iPad 2 is exactly what I expected it to be based on the rumors. It has no features I critically need as an iPad 1 user with Facetime already in my iPhone 4. I was determined not to buy it.

The moment Steve Jobs walked onto the stage and showed it the reality distortion field kicked in and sad to say I am going to sell my iPad 1 and buy the 2. I just like it and you only live once.

So true.
Steve comes on and says "You want this", and I say " Uh, I do?". And he says "You bet", and I say "Ok, where do I pre-order?".
He says "You can't" I say "****" ......you can see how this ends.

The way I see it is that this met my expectations but did not exceed them. Its actually a great update to the line IMO.

But I would say the same thing I told my parents - both bought the ipad before Xmas - Wait for the screen upgrade. The ipad is still great for them, they are not power users.

The way I see it, unless you find fault in the ipad 1 you own, as far as speed goes, no real reason to upgrade at this time (although later in the year you may see devs taking advantage of that extra horsepower and then you might want a bit more juice).

BUT, if you DONT own an ipad, there is almost no reason to buy an ipad 1 over the new one, its CLEARLY a much better machine.

To me, if you are buying the iPad over the iPad 2, you need to be getting it for a least $200 cheaper than the equivalent iPad 2.

Because to choose iPad 1 to save $100 or $150.....just a terrible deal. At the present moment, the new iPad is clearly more that $150 better, at least IMO.

After the excitement of yesterday with announcement, I'm going to pass.
Currently have a 64gb + 3G and this new iPad was going to go to my son...who is 6.

I'm sure he'll more than fine with a 16gb 1st gen

I'm definitely interested. The Smart Covers seem really neat but some speed boosts just is not enough for me to buy. I'm currently debating between iPad and MBAir. I know they are too different products but the portability is what I'm after.

My brother is thinking about buying one so I will probably just end up playing with that when I want to. I'm thinking I'll grab a MBAir when they refresh with Thunderbolt.

So no, iPad2 is not entirely on my radar after the announcement.
