I ordered a 21.5 2.7 with the SSD for 1850.00 out the door. 2000.00. With tax.

This doesn't make sense. "Out the door" means with all fees and taxes. It is the price you pay to get the merchandise out the door of the store.

Although I wont be getting one any time soon, it's always fun to fantasize...

And I gotta admit. I'm a bit disappointed. I know it's going to be fast and rock the world, but I honestly though the step would be steaper.

To sum up the changes (and please correct me and add more to the list):

- A bit faster processor <>

- Sandy bridge ^

- 2 times Thunderbolt <>

- Better graphics card <>

I almost know why they didn't, but why oh why couldnt you just offer that damn anti-glare screen. Curse you at forcing my hand towards the Mac Pro for desktop work :(

Just add a monitor and run in dual screen mode, problem solved. :)

Was hoping for i7 and 8 Gb Ram and 2 TB Harddrive to come standard. Oh well.

I'm disappointed the base 21" doesn't come with 1 TB hard drive.

However, I'm pleasantly surprised that Apple is willing to swap out the Magic Mouse for the Trackpad for free. It's an easy decision then. I wonder if that's only online though... because it says "When you order online..."

Does that mean the Apple Store won't honor a free Mouse-Trackpad swap?

Also could you get the wired keyboard as a swap at the Apple Store???

I know right, I wanted a HDMI so I could've connected my PS3, and a blu ray player so I can play my movies on the yellow screen, all by myself.

JK: Nice update. I don't need blu ray - I have that on my PS3, which is connected to my TV.

I was actually configuring a new PC and seeing what the new desktop Sandy Bridge are all about, and I was quite shocked what I saw.

The 3.3 ghz Core i5 2500k is the mainstream Sandy Bridge cpu at a very cheap price. So Apple is actually shipping very low end Sandy Bridge CPU's of 2.5, 2.7 and 3.1 ghz?

Ok sure, it's an improvement over last years models, but let's get real here, it's all low end hardware except for the 27" iMac i7.

Atleast put a cheapo 3.3 ghz core i5 2500k which costs nothing basically?

edit: Unless the new iMac has big heating issues, but I don't think it has heating problems since it's able to ship with the 3.4 ghz i7?

Honestly think it's a heat consideration, at least in the 21". Looks like all three of the processor options for that model run a Max TDP of 65W where the 27" goes up to 95W.

I don't know what you're talking about and it's pretty clear that you don't either. The 3.4 i7 (27") and the 2.8 i7 (21.5") are top performing chips and storm through benchmarks. The 3.1 i5 (27") and 2.7 i5 (27" and 21.5") hold their own in serving the mid-range market.

I'm a little disappointed.

I was waiting for this refresh to possibly buy my first iMac. I have a PC with a quad core i7 860, 8GB RAM, 1TB video RAM, 2TB drive, and a 24" monitor that I just bought before the holidays for about $1200 (from Dell). Now, in order to get a Mac that is equivalent, I have to spent almost twice as much ($2399), and I still don't think the iMac will be as powerful because of the mobile processor issue. I do get Thunderbolt (which I can't use yet) and a beautiful screen, but other than that - the iMac seems like a giant ripoff.

And, I can't even walk into an Apple store to be ripped off, I have to order online and wait for the privilege.

What gpu do you currently have? Also the screen is a pretty big reason to get an iMac, plus the sandybridge is a whole new architecture compared to lynnfield.

you are not comparing apples with apples, dif architecture. and don't be so caught up with the amount of video ram, a 512 fermi 460 is x5 as fast as a 1TB 9800 GTX. do a little more research...

I'm disappointed because I just went to the worlds largest mall which has an apple store in it and they still haven't received them so now I have to wait even longer. I should be at home with my iMac right now lol. Damn it's 11 am.

West Edmonton Mall, didn't have any wow I'm surprised.

Me too! I was about to jump over the counter and strangle the guy. "what do you mean your still waiting for them!!!"

No 16GB option for 21.5" upgrade = disappointment.

+1

I'm pretty sure the 21.5" has four SO-DIMM slots so you can upgrade it to 16GB. Also, Sandy Bridge can support a max of 32GB, so hopefully these iMacs can too with 8GB modules.

The 27" display alone is worth $1000. Don't know what kind of crappy 24" you have now, but you are not making an apples-to-apples comparison.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8H7 Safari/6533.18.5)

I think they are a fantastic upgrade and I'd love to bag myself one. However, I
am disappointed because Apple have chosen to release them the same day my Daughter's school fees are due and I can't afford one right now :(

Wow, that's some video card you've got there

Yep, the world's first 1TB video card! :D

Sorry, obviously I meant 1GB. And my 24" monitor is a Samsung, not crappy at all, but certainly not as nice as the 27" iMac screen.

I guess when you figure the iMac screen as "worth" a thousand bucks alone, it makes the cost of the rest of the unit a lot more reasonable. And I don't mind paying a bit for the engineering and design of the iMac. Maybe I need to rethink this - I really still want one. I'm just trying to justify the cost.

Just called the store and they won't have them in until this afternoon. So apparently a lot of stores are in that situation. And they can't do any custom set ups (what ever that entails.)

I am most disappointed that it is only 16 gb max ram. But excited to replace my mac mini.

Well sometimes no change can be good, such as this .....

- NO Price Increase

After see this stupid changes Im decided to get a PC with an Apple Cinema Display. We all know that will come sandy bridge but we are all waiting 3.4GHz i7 should be deafult with 8 GB RAMS. There is no any alternative for sandy brige we all know that but RAms are really chip in the market now and Apple must be add 8 GB Ram to default. Everybody knows SSD never come to default SSD still expensive product on the market. But RAM absolutely must be 8 GB to default. Yes Im really really disappointed.
