Anyone disappointed?

What is this obsession with what is default or not?

Most BTO options (SSD aside ) only add a delay of a few days. Or are you just complaining about the price?

Just called the store and they won't have them in until this afternoon. So apparently a lot of stores are in that situation. And they can't do any custom set ups (what ever that entails.)

I am most disappointed that it is only 16 gb max ram. But excited to replace my mac mini.

What are you doing that would even need more than 16 gigs of ram?

And you need to do more research, iMacs can take 32 gigs of ram: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/2011/DDR3_21.5_27

But at $3000, I dont think you are buying...

Telepati -- my 7 year old daughter could install ram in an iMac. You want 8 gigs? $40 more and you go it.

And my 24" monitor is a Samsung, not crappy at all, but certainly not as nice as the 27" iMac screen.

Samsung makes good displays and bad displays. Just saying its a Samsung tells us nothing. At any rate, the Dell equivalent of the iMac display U2711 usually sells for about $900 and you have to deal with the nasty anti-glare sparkle effect on matte IPS LCDs.:(

2 apple employees, and the website, told me it was 16gb max.

And it's always nice to have the ram option 1-3 years down the road.

Oh please. You're just looking for reasons to complain. If you don't have a need for that much main memory now, do you really think you'll need 2x a few years from now?

I gotta agree.

I mean if anyone needs more than 16gb of ram, theirs needs are way beyond the iMac and should be looking at a Mac Pro.

I mean if you need more that 16gb, chances are the high end video card available for the iMac won't be good enough either 1-3 years down the road. You'll be stuck with whatever video option you buy the iMac with.

.

I would take a bet and say 50% or more users on MR would have all their computing needs serviced more than adequately with a mac mini c2d. That includes the odd imovie trailer made with iphone footage once a year.:p

No because Apple released exactly what I was expecting them to release. Actually, I was a bit surprised that they released a 2GB 6970M as a BTO option.

To those of you whining and crying about the iMac not shipping with an SSD as a standard, get over it. These things are ridiculously expensive and Apple is not going to ship an iMac with an SSD with at best, only few hundred gigabytes of disk space. If you want it as a BTO or as an aftermarket option, that's your choice.

I really like this refresh, but why is there no 128GB SSD option available? If the SSD was easily user upgradeable this would not be a problem, but I don't want to spend €500 extra. The 128GB SSD is available for the MBP, too. Why not on the iMac?

After see this stupid changes Im decided to get a PC with an Apple Cinema Display. We all know that will come sandy bridge but we are all waiting 3.4GHz i7 should be deafult with 8 GB RAMS. There is no any alternative for sandy brige we all know that but RAms are really chip in the market now and Apple must be add 8 GB Ram to default. Everybody knows SSD never come to default SSD still expensive product on the market. But RAM absolutely must be 8 GB to default. Yes Im really really disappointed.

...about the RAM?

I agree with this - I would love an SSD, but there is no way to make one "standard" without overpricing the iMac for everyone else. Getting one BTO is perfectly acceptable, if you need one.

I guess I am most disappointed with the lack of USB 3.0, and I know that it was too much to expect...but before long it will be the standard (probably very soon, in fact). I know you have Thunderbolt, but there is nothing available yet that uses it (I'm talking about external HDD).

Not to hijack this thread, but I'm disappointed that this is an indication that SSD prices have not dropped significantly. It's an indication that Apple will keep the same SSD base and BTO configurations if/when they refresh the Air this Summer. I feel the same can be said about the RAM base standard. Seeing 4 GB base RAM across the board for the iMacs makes me think the new Airs will remain 2 GB base RAM. I hope I'm wrong on both counts.

Back to iMac...

I am disappointed that it only has SATA II ports apparently. Still waiting for full confirmation. :(

the new imac is the movie " The Italian Job "

2011 version it is a nice pretty commercial for The Mini Cooper cars oh my bad for T-Bolt!

Come you know I am right!

absolute disappointed

My Dad will be when I tell him after he bought one 2-3 months ago despite my guidance to read the Macrumors buyer's guide.

i was fairly surprised with the inclusion of two thunderbolt ports with support of two additional large displays, the graphics card 6970m was a shock i thought atleast the 6950 was going to be in there. the only 'disappointment' was the SSD option. I really was looking towards a 128GB + HDD option. for i believe $99 or $199 in the MBP you can get a 128GB SSD and its fine for OS/Apps.

256GB SSD isnt bad but i think it would have been nice as an option for 128GB SSD+2TB

overall im impressed and would like to pick one of these up as a main machine.

Not disappointed in the new specs on the iMacs. I'm considering a base 21.5" model myself. I thought the high end 27" would have a i7 standard however.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8H7 Safari/6533.18.5)

Both sizes come with an i7 quad. I don't understand these complaints.

The SSD BTO dropped a $100.00 US from 600.00 last gen to $500.00 US, that is good.

My opionion is that Apple opted to just add 4GB instead 8GB since most users opt to add their own anyway. That is why they went with two 2GB sticks and left two open. I could be wrong, but maybe not.
