I sold my 2014 rMBP 13", 8GB, 256GB about 3 weeks ago in anticipation of the rMB. I just got it today and I love it. I can definitely see a performance difference, but it doesn't hamper my workflow at all. It will take a little getting used to the trackpad/keyboard proximity as my thumbs and palms keep hitting the pad while I'm typing. I don't miss the performance of the rMBP as I rarely used my machine for heavy loads. I also have a 15" 2012 MBP sitting at home for any heavy tasks. This machine has completely changed what bag I need to carry with me for work though (IT).

The speakers on this are perhaps the best I've heard from a mac and definitely from a computer of this size. The keyboard is probably one of my favorite things about the rMB. If they priced this machine appropriately ($1049) it would be a no brainer for a lot of people, but I don't mind paying the early adopter fee.

How'd you come up with $1049?

Anyone ditching 13" rMBP for rMB?

Tempting, but no. I need the ports. I'm also perfectly happy with my late 2013 rMBP and a display I can run natively at 1280x800 HiDPI.

Maybe that's the price that the 4GB RAM/128GB SSD model that they don't have should be. :D

No way Apple is going to do a 8GB RAM/256GB SSD model of anything for $1049 anytime soon!

I am. I have a late-2013 13" rMBP and I will be getting the rMB. Mainly because I really value portability and I travel tons.

I recently jettisoned my same model recently (without losing my shirt, thank God) because I got tired of making daily short trips lugging my 13" rMPB and my iPA2/kb combo around.

I'm still on the fence about the nMB (it's called new Macbook, not retina Macbook, folks). My needs are fairly lightweight, (browsing, email, messaging and pulling up documents scanned into PDF) and the iPad is handling them sufficiently. The gold brydgeair keyboard folio gives it a gold mini macbook look and feel, anyway.

But Jeez Louise, that new laptop sure is pretty....I'm both infuriated and relieved that no one has them in stock right now.

Posted this in another thread but i got the only one in stock at Best Buy!

stock and gold, I'm actually kinda digging the gold on black.

A027 is the screen, just like all the demo units and looks nice :D

the weaker link will be returned (this or 2015 rMBP)

just getting it all config'd up. Bought a usb-c to usb adapter too, $20.

used $50 edu off and 10% off, $1124 before tax ;)

From your signature, you just need the gold MB to complete your set :D

The gold is pretty nice!

I'm digging how it looks silver in certain lighting, gold in others, and dark in a dark room.

Not even a fan of gold on iOS devices

definitely going to give it a few days before parting with the lesser preferred machine, but oh boy, unless there's some deal breaking issues, I might have to keep the rMB.

its gorgeous all around.

even though key travel isn't much, I'm really enjoying the punchiness of the butterfly keyboard.

Add me to the list of one who ditched a 13" rMBP for a rMB. I had a new early 2015 13" rMBP which I liked a lot (had mid-2014 model before that), but ended up returning it within my 14 day return window after I lucked out and got a rMB at my local BB. Truth is I really didn't need all the power the rMBP had to offer and was able to do everything I needed on the rMB including light FCPX editing.

I think i might be someone who returns my 13" rMBP.

using the non butterfly keyboard, feels shocking a bit to me.

the 13" is still a beautiful machine. But i'm really in awe having the sit down experience.

couldn't have possibly gotten a better deal either, and the base 8/256 rMB is cheaper than the 8/256 2015 13" rMBP. I'll be saving almost $200 and only really paying $800 out of pocket after using my 2011 13" air for 3.5 years. Didn't sell it for much but I wanted it off my hands, there's no going back from retina.

posted this pic in the best buy thread but ill post it again (and the color isn't that intense, the flash just totally nuked it):

I just can't i took my 2015 MBPR in today and took pictures to compare. I made a thread on here for those curious. Its just too small for me, granted I'm a bigger guy with big paws and don't travel. Only traveling my MBPR does is around my house. And I'm happy i do have the new trackpad. Not to mention the 1.3" of screen, and the HDMI port i currently use to push HBO now to my TV.

I love the lightness of the MBR, but the footprint is just ultimately too small for me for home use. Plus i got my MBPR 2015 for $1177 out the door via the BB sale and 10% movers coupon. I will use that extra horsepower for sure since its my "main machine". I don't have another desktop atm. I will be waiting for a 14" version though :) Hopefully in a 13" footprint.

I also noticed the MBR doesn't get as bright as my 2015 MBPR in store, if thats a concern for anyone prob not. As well as its hard to judge from the picture but they have a slightly different contrast. Could be due to the "not as bright" via the MBR.

Those looking for the most portable and ultra light machine will enjoy it though. :D

Go for it. My rMBP has given me the Retina display I so desired for the past 1.5 years (had an Air before that) but as soon as Retina was available in a smaller package, I knew I was going to make the jump again.

I'll definitely be selling my rMBP shortly after I get the rMB. I ordered 1.3/512, though. I'm all in.

Don't forget the cost of dongles.:p

Don't forget the cost of dongles.:p

heh, yeah screw apple and their stinginess. Anandtech is transparent too:
"Primarily due to the fact that almost no peripherals support Type-C yet other than Apple’s included charger, for most anything else you will need to use a Type-A to Type-C adapter, which Apple sells for $20 but does not include with the laptop. The adapter will allow you to plug in typical USB peripherals and even supports USB 3.0/USB 3.1 Gen 1 speeds, but it’s a definite oversight/stinginess on Apple’s part right now to not include it given the lack of compatible peripherals. "
---------------

Oh well $20 is nothing in the grand scheme of the cost of this machine, I needed it and it should have been included. But that $79 cable, gonna hold off for a while/ see if cheap 3rd party ones come along / a good eBay reseller with genuine ones/ a friend that gets employee discount.

Not too worried about it. But on principle, its lame of Apple. same with charging +$200 on the retina models for 256gb over 128gb. 128gb on pro in 2015 is not acceptable. especially when now the non-pro macbook retina does. same with 16gb iPhones imo, and even though offering 64gig $100 cheaper not really giving those people just over the fence at 32gb base inclined to fork over more cash for nand that costs them little.

apple world.

man im loving this thing so far. I'm shocked. turn off font smoothing too in settings under appearance, it makes for a better experience imo (same with the rMBP's)

That is the beauty of the USB 3.0 on the MBPR. Using a external i have a 3TB that i have hooked up to my Xbox One for games and apps, and store movies on it to watch through the media player on it. But i unplug it and plug it to my MBPR to transfer movies & pictures on. 128GB for me is plenty on board storage for me in my 2015 MBR. The one main reason the MBR comes with 256GB i would think because there is no USB 3.0 and made to be used on "the go". Not to be docked etc. Isn't that what Apple said?

This can go both ways, same can be said charging $1300 for the current MBR, i think $1,000 or 1,099 would have been the sweet spot. I think they will axe the 13" air and make a 14" MBR for the higher price around $1300. And knock the current MBR down to like $1,099 ish.....

But i do agree the 2015 MBPR should come with 256GB on the base even though i don't need it. But again its Apple do you expect anything different lol? :)

Don't get your hopes up on a 14" model. You seem to want it right now!

$1124 (and tax, if only I lived in Delaware or something), I think I did pretty close :D

$1299 is a lot, I agree, and they'll definitely do better when they want this thing to reach more people (same with rMBP price lowering on 13" end, and Macbook Air's dropping in price) but anand is correct in stating when 11" comes 4/128 and upgrading to 8/256 is another $300, that brings it to $1199. +$100 for screen upgrade and new design is worth it in my mind.

Not to far from Deleware, I'm in PA. But i was able to use my 10% movers coupon on the 2015 MBPR so i got mine for $1177 with tax which is nice. They had like $65 off as a special as it was already.

I agree the extra is worth it for the screen and the new design. I just wanted the little extra power from the 2015 Pro, at least i got the new trackpad too :). I also plug it into my 65" TV currently to push the new HBO NOW subscription I'm currently testing out since i currently don't have a Apple TV, so the HDMI does get used currently.

Plus i am able to dabble in light gaming like CSGO and Hearthstone which the 2015 Pro will run just fine with the 6100 GPU since they aren't demanding. And i plan on getting a GO Pro and want to edit videos. So for me the MBPR was the wise choice for now. BUT.... if they come out with a 14" MBR next year, i might have to sell my 2015 MBPR :)

You should've also used a $50 EDU coupon on top of that.

They are a little sketchy sometimes with stacking, or even if they bother to check. At least my local BB. I know they won't let you use a 10% movers coupon on a B&HVideo price match. Which doesn't make sense.

I'm still sticking with my 13" rMBP. I played with it at the store and it may be just the display model, but there were some choppiness when opening/closing windows, using safari, and watching some youtube videos. I was going to see if I would be willing to replace my rMBP for more portability, but I will stick with my rMBP.

I totally agree with you. I went down to the Apple store on Sunday and they had 6 of these out on display. Of course all of them were the 1.1ghz processor. But while playing with the laptop, I noticed lots of lag in the UI from using Safari, youtube, etc. I wonder if the 1.2 or 1.3 would be better but didn't have one to test. If this is the case, I may have to go with a MBP and wait a few years for them to resolve this.

I wonder what on the demo could be causing this, mine has been running smooth thus far.
