Personally I think over the past few years Apple has placed way to much attention on their target market (PC users) and has left the people currently using their products in the dust. It seems that Apple is ok with losing current customers in favor of taking market share. Way just when I woke up I check my iPhone to see what emails I had, and what do you know, mail has not pushed squat in over 7 hours. That last software update broke my MBP, which I need to bring in reapairs already becasue the construction on them is horrible, and now with these "things" released today I can niot/will not upgrade. So thank you Apple I am stuck with this one until you get it right.

Worst thing is when these people who switched over from their PC see the same design flaws, software glitches. and spotty quality control they see on their PCs they will just go right back to their pc.

- Anyone know if FW800 is backwards compatible with 400 already by using a cable, or will another adapter be required?
- Also, any word whether the glass is flush to the lcd, or does it have a gap like the iMac?

I am so glad I did not wait for this (lack of upgrade), I ordered 17 inch 8 months ago and have been very happy and put my own 4 gig memory in (20 Bucks after rebate) and will add my own 500G hard drive when the 7200 rpms drop down to $120.00 (You can pick up the 5400 for that now) The faster front side bus is nice but not worth dumping what I have now for this.

How many people do you think feel that sick feeling in there stomach right now, besides Steve..

I don't remember having a keynote where people didn't complain. Anyways, I will complain also - why drop the matte? It could have easily been made as an option.

I am very disappointed (other than the fact I won't waste my money buying a new system). I really wanted 1680x1050 or 1920x1200 options, HDMI and eSATA. Blu-ray would have been nice too.

However, I bet they sell a bunch of these to the consumer crowd (especially the $1299 MB).

Cheers,

Amazingly dissapointed. I really don't get this company anymore. Apple sports Adobe CS, graphic programs, makes aperture for photographers YET they now use glossy displays which are CRAP for graphics because they aren't color accurate AND you can see your face in them instead of seeing your canvas. What's the deal ?!?!

I do not like the glossy screen or the lack of FW400...or the lack of making the 17" like the rest of em!!!!!! ****. But, who am I kidding? I am still gonna buy it and give my old one to my little brother haha

Think I'll be sticking with my old iBook till this gloss black bezel craze goes out of fashion. And the MacBook Pro is designed for 'pros'!

AHhhhh man.... I cant beleve they havent updated the 17" moddle! Its still got the dogdy GFX chip and all!

Seriously i need screen size from a Pro laptop. Anybody dooing video, compositing or 3d will needs the space. Not to mention a serious grafix card!

Been waiting 3 months... If they dont sort that out i may have to buy a PC

I do image manipulation/video and 3D work but not on a portable cause I find the duo2core still ain't up to it all.. plus 4Gb of ram is a little restrictive. Hence MacPro with 20GB RAM

Yeah, there are always those who complain, but they're usually the minority voice. My impression is that there are far fewer people cheering this time.

I will not buy a computer with a glossy screen, simple as that. I really do not like the idea of sticking something to the screen to make it anti-reflective.

This really ****ing pisses me off as I'm currently migrating everything I do from Windows XP to OS X on this computer. If in three years my new computer has to be a PC because I want a matte screen, I'll be pissed as hell.

Good thing they're selling those proprietary video adapters so you can hook it up to a matte external display
I too dislike the idea of offering only glossy. I prefer the glossy myself, but completely understand the need for matte, especially if you work outside or near large windows.

And the cinema display thing, it seemed like they introduced this one specifically for notebooks, with all those fancy cords for laptop connectivity. Maybe there will be options for desktop use in the future (Jan?). Just a thought.
Pfft, and now with glossy cinema displays, even Apple displays are going to suffer this reflective thorn!
Bah... I really don't know what they were thinking...

yeah if they are going to work with nvidia they could at least give the mac pro a little attention.

I mean the 9600gt in the new 15" macbook is about the same as the 8800gt option for the mac pro, the fastest non workstation video card you can get for the mac pro. And the 17" mbp, the one meant for professionals, is still the same, no new gpu, just new hard drive options.

The new macbook pro has the 9600M gt not the 9600 gt. lol big difference there. The 9600M GT is alot slower then the 8800gt you find in desktops.

Its really sad because they made the pro version of their laptop the same as the regular version basically. sure its bigger, a little faster, and the graphics card is slightly better...but the case and everything else is the same, theres no distinction anymore.
The reason why pros bought the mbp is because it had the matte option, and thats why even some regular consumers bought it...now that there is no matte option Apple just knocked a huge CHUNK out of their pro market. Do they think regular consumers are going to go "OH SNAP IT SAYS PRO I BETTER BUY THAT CUS ITS FASTER RIGHT?". Wrong!. Consumers will only see the same product from the case and go "Oh, thats a waste of money."

Great job Apple, you pulled a Vista.

OMG lol, so much fuzz because the screen is glossy? Please. I have a asus notebook with a glossy screen, and I never had problems with it. I'm happy with that kind of screen, and I think the only thing that matters is the quality of the glossy by it self. There is the good quality glossy and the bad quality glossy, and I really don't believe that apple would bet on a bad quality glossy screen.

Yeah, it's nice for viewing pretty pictures, and watching movies and crap like that... But for those of use who actually depend on our screens to give us faithful colors, and who don't want to try and see past our reflections constantly during out 6+hr. painting sessions, it's a big deal. <_<

This was a very, very stupid move for Apple. They've just essentially screwed one of their largest markets. Professionals will no longer want macs if they don't produce accurate colors. Way to go Apple...

The polls and comments are revealing the same thing : people hate the new laptops and the new screen. If I were Apple now, I would be very seriously thinking about changing the product strategy.

Just put an order in.

For a refurbished 15" matte screen 2.5GHz. :)

I have a feeling I am not the first nor will I be the last.
(Also have my fingers crossed that they drop the price of the refurbs within the next 14 days!)

The argument isn't that they made the screen glossy, the complaint is that they offer ONLY glossy. Some of us are with you and like the glossy for regular use, but there are probably over 50% of mbp owners who either just like the matte, or need it for color accuracy. The quality of the penryn screens was called into question when they had the horrible yellowing effects, as well as backlight striping. Neither of those things are directly apple's fault, but they chose to ignore them on a large scope.

really dont know

I think they look really nice, not keene on the black keys and the type of keys but apart from that i think they look ok.

Pricing has p****d me off. Not too bad on Educating discount.

The pro does not look PRO really. Thought they would look slightly different, not just bigger screen?

And no matte?

Maybe i will hit the refurb section

I'll wait till i see it in my local reseller and play around with it

Then make my decision
