Anyone else fed up waiting? :(

No, I got mine on launch day, but even if I didn't I'd be more than content with my 4s.

As crazy as it sounds I'm thinking of selling the 5s for (so I don't waste my upgrade) for $700 - 800, and then sticking with my 4s for another year

I've had a phone from day 1 and I'm still fed up. This is all a ploy to get people to buy 5c's and to make people wait in lines for advertising purposes. I'm not a fan of how apple treats their customers who they know will wait in lines for their products. All I did was walk into a Verizon at 4pm on launch day and got mine. I got really lucky.

You think that their producing, selling and shipping 10million units in a single week indicates a poor supply chain?

Sold, sure.
But I do not believe that they produced or shipped 10 mil.
More like one or two million, and a whole lot of backorder.

I sincerely believe the entire "shortage" is a deliberate marketing stunt.
Maybe next Tim Cook will filibuster on the Senate floor for 21 hours....

I understand your pain

As an adult, I don't have toys but gadgets have become the toy replacement for me. My iPhone 4 was stolen, so my replacement phone was the 4s even though my plan was to hold out for the 5. Now I'm ok upgrading on the "s" series because its' release is a revision to the "major" upgrade.

This is the first year I attempted to buy the phone on launch. I knew going to the store would be difficult because I had to work and I had no desire sleeping on the sidewalk or car. Instead, I set my alarm to wake up ahead of launch. I used my iPad to log into ATT and laptop to log into Apple to order. ATT's site jammed and I was able to get an order through on Apple in the 1-3 day shipping group.

HOWEVER... I still went to an Apple store minutes before 8AM on launch (yes, I realize how stupid that was now). Based on my position in line, they only had 16 GB space grey phones for ATT and Verizon and all T-Mobile phones were sold out. I walked away happy with my internet strategy.

I suffered Apple new product anxiety between that 20th and 23rd until shipping details were provided. I was pleased when the my phone arrived mid-week. Thankfully, I will not go through this exercise for another 2 years!!

yeah, well I got snagged on a technicality.
Neither Apple nor Verizon will let you order phone to a PoBox.
I live in a warehouse type arrangement where I can not get any mail or packages. (but I can play loud music and mess with power tools!)
Apple and VZW only ship to the billing address, so I had to change my billing address to my work, then try and order a phone.
After I did that VZW was already saying "October".
So I then went to Apple's online store and punched up my info.
Now it automatically parses my work address as a business and vaults me into Apple store for business.
Where you CAN have a billing and shipping address.

I can think of several reasons why these rules need addressing.
What is wrong with poboxes? If the phone is stolen in transit, it will be refunded if you sent it by the right class or insured.
If it is sent UPS, it would likely get stolen anyway.
UPS is infamous for it's employees stealing phones, shoes and anything else that is easily identified by its packaging and can be smuggled out easily.

I have grown up toys as well. But for me that is bass guitars, synthesizers and DSLRS.
The toyness of Macs and iphones wears off after you spend a few years fixing them.

Supply chain management being poor or not is debatable. They sold 4 million more units this year on opening weekend than they did on last year's iPhone 5. That's nearly double.

9 million units in all over the weekend. Do you think anyone could've predicted that, even Apple? If they listened to all the naysayers prior to launch day, then they probably did the right thing, because so many vocal people said it was a flop, Apple is doomed, it's junk, et al. Yet, despite that, it sold like hot cakes.

In the end, it's just a phone, a device, a thing, a non-life sustaining object. I'm waiting for my new iPhone 5s just like a lot of people too, but I'm not fed up. I'm patiently waiting and not losing sleep over it. It will arrive in due time and life will continue until then and after then.

Very nicely said.

This should be posted at the top of every "waiting for my iPhone" thread.

I know it's hard to wait...but anticipation heightens the reward!:D

If they were to have enough for everyone that wants one they would needed to start production much earlier - then many of the feature of the phone would not have been possible.

Im sorry for your wait - but its what you signed up for.

Then maybe Apple should have delayed the release of the 5s until they had enough stock to satisfy their loyal customers. Delaying the release and announcing the new 5s in November would not hurt their sales. The same people would be there in Nov to buy the latest and greatest. I think it's a crime to have a phone back ordered 3 minutes after launch. Just my opinion.

Really? A Crime? Really?... The problem here is the American consumer and their entitlement mentality.

Why push back the release date for everyone and punish those who were diligent enough to secure a 5s on launch day? Just so that you feel better that no one got one a few days ahead of you?

Just curious, how do you know Finz72 is American by his comment?

Btw this is 10 million between two phones. The 5s and 5c (the one you call fugly). The fact remains to be seen how many are actually 5c's. One very reliable source has said sales are 50/50. Everyone says well they still have 5c's so they aren't selling. But they are. A rep at my local apple store told me they get 5 5c's to every 5s ... So of course there's stock... It's not because they are "fugly" that's for sure

your current phone is probably functional.
Mine is not.

And to address the recurring fanboy meme.
I do not think it is "entitlement" to pay $400 and expect something less vague than "October-ish?" with a very stylish shrug accompanied by upturned hands.
A company whose business is information technology should at least be able to narrow it down to the week level. If they could tell me 1-2 weeks or 3-4 weeks I could organize contingencies around that.
Maybe get a temporary flip phone.
But if I went through the hassle of adding a junk phone to my account, then had the iphone show up the next day I'd be annoyed to say the least.

I'll admit I'm being a little whiny, but it isn't as if I expect something for nothing.
I am out $400.
and sans any idevice.

Woke up at 3 AM on the 20th East Coast Time, ordered online, got phone on the 25th. Not hard to do. ;)

Punish ?? That's hysterical. I guess your idea of diligence is either waiting in a queue outside an apple store for hours or days, paying someone to hold your place in line, or ordering online and luckily hitting the "submit " button a couple minutes sooner than another well deserving customer ? Contrary to your nasty remark about me feeling better that no one get a phone before me, I disagree. I'm happy for the people who were able to score a phone quickly, congrats. I just feel as though Apple could have forecasted their demand and supply much better so that those people who were diligent and ordered a phone within 15 minutes of launch could have one within a month. Not all people have the luxury to be able to skip work, camp out to secure a phone at an Apple store.

I enjoy posting opinions on this forum ordinarily, but getting attacked for doing so by obviously angry people has me second guessing myself.

By the way, I am American and proud.

It seems to me that the problem is Apple announcing that something was available when it actually wasn't.

And there were those of us who also did exactly that, but because we didn't want 16GB Space Gray, we were shunted off into limbo.

To amplify comments earlier, check out the Apple Store if you have one nearby. I went to the one at the St Louis Galleria on Tuesday just before lunch, waited a half hour, and got 2 Space Grey phones. They also had silver at that time, but Gold was gone.

When the personal pick up thing was working no store up to 100 miles of me had anything. BTW phonedog is reporting the personal pick up tool will be live again on Monday, but who cares, seeing "not available for pick up at this store" is just as bad as seeing "processing" and "prepared to ship".

Not really. You asking "well why didn't Apple just push back the release date so they had more in stock" doesn't make much sense with a high demand product.

What about the flu vaccine? Should the CDC hold that back until they have enough for everyone on the same day? Ridiculous idea right?

What about if Apple held back the release until December until they had enough for everyone on every country on the same day? Because Apple should have just forecasted their demand and supply better right?

Yep, that's exactly what I mean. Either get in line, have your stuff set up ahead of time and order online right at midnight when sales go live, or wait the time it takes to get yours.

Contrary to your nasty remark about me feeling better that no one get a phone before me, I disagree. I'm happy for the people who were able to score a phone quickly, congrats.

There was nothing nasty about my remark at all. You seem pissed that there is a limited supply which ran out and said that Apple should have push back the release date for everyone because you didn't get one, to which I asked the reasoning behind it since it sounded like you would feel better if everyone had to wait instead of some getting theirs on launch day and you having to wait.

Not all people have the luxury to be able to skip work, camp out to secure a phone at an Apple store.

You didn't have to, you simply needed to order online right when the Apple page went live at midnight and you would already have your phone by now.

By the way, I am American and proud.

So am I. Not sure why you had to tell me this though since I was asking someone else how he already knew you were.

They probably still have some for walkup. They haven't had the personal pickup tool at all this week, but they had stock and I got two phones (me and my wife). The slowest part of the process was waiting for phone-trained Apple-Store employees to free up to process us.

Try calling them and seeing if they have stock. (They probably will, they get stock daily, but in some areas that could disappear fast... They'll probably be able to give you an idea.) If they think they'll have phones, show up. They'll have you check in with one of the folks that will make sure they have the model you want in stock before you get in line.

The tool worked Monday. If anything some will have Space Gray and I'm not interested. Might have made a difference to me if the ring around the touch id sensor had been gray, small thing but if I'm paying over a half "g" I want what I want. And the nearest store is 40 miles away from me anyway.

I would love to see prepared to ship!
My quibble isnt that there is a shortage. That happens almost every Apple product launch. I order stuff in the mail all the time, I am used to being kept up to date within reason. Amazon, Zappos, Thinkgeek, Newegg, etc all send you plenty of info about the product you bought. And usually with some kind of range like Sept 24-Oct 17th.
Apple give us .....October....

yeah yeah unprecedented demand.

prepared to ship with att status means nothing. Does not mean the same as apple status

But that is exactly the problem. Apple is rolling out the 5S and 5C to more and more markets. More and more providers each day, and there are still plenty of us that ordered fairly early that haven't seen any movement on our orders.
So on the one hand Apple is saying, "Iphones! Get your Iphones here!".
While the other hand says "no iphones sorry".
Some guy in some random place that only just had Iphones go on the market today can buy an iphone, but people who placed orders a week ago are having to wait until October.
Get it?

I went in 4 hours after my Verizon opened and walked out with a 32GB space grey. Exactly what I wanted. I waited a total of an hour to be seen, then I went back in 5 days later to see if they had any apple cases (last product red!!) and they had grey AND silver in stock. I know that people have work and school, etc. but seriously people knew this phone was coming out and didn't plan for it and now it's "oh poor me". I'm not trying to brag or be a jerk, people should have done better planning.
