As an adult, I don't have toys but gadgets have become the toy replacement for me. My iPhone 4 was stolen, so my replacement phone was the 4s even though my plan was to hold out for the 5. Now I'm ok upgrading on the "s" series because its' release is a revision to the "major" upgrade.
This is the first year I attempted to buy the phone on launch. I knew going to the store would be difficult because I had to work and I had no desire sleeping on the sidewalk or car. Instead, I set my alarm to wake up ahead of launch. I used my iPad to log into ATT and laptop to log into Apple to order. ATT's site jammed and I was able to get an order through on Apple in the 1-3 day shipping group.
HOWEVER... I still went to an Apple store minutes before 8AM on launch (yes, I realize how stupid that was now). Based on my position in line, they only had 16 GB space grey phones for ATT and Verizon and all T-Mobile phones were sold out. I walked away happy with my internet strategy.
I suffered Apple new product anxiety between that 20th and 23rd until shipping details were provided. I was pleased when the my phone arrived mid-week. Thankfully, I will not go through this exercise for another 2 years!!
yeah, well I got snagged on a technicality.
Neither Apple nor Verizon will let you order phone to a PoBox.
I live in a warehouse type arrangement where I can not get any mail or packages. (but I can play loud music and mess with power tools!)
Apple and VZW only ship to the billing address, so I had to change my billing address to my work, then try and order a phone.
After I did that VZW was already saying "October".
So I then went to Apple's online store and punched up my info.
Now it automatically parses my work address as a business and vaults me into Apple store for business.
Where you CAN have a billing and shipping address.
I can think of several reasons why these rules need addressing.
What is wrong with poboxes? If the phone is stolen in transit, it will be refunded if you sent it by the right class or insured.
If it is sent UPS, it would likely get stolen anyway.
UPS is infamous for it's employees stealing phones, shoes and anything else that is easily identified by its packaging and can be smuggled out easily.
I have grown up toys as well. But for me that is bass guitars, synthesizers and DSLRS.
The
toyness of Macs and iphones wears off after you spend a few years fixing them.
