I place my online order on the 21st, thinking .... how long will it take to churn out some gold iphones..

finally on the 2nd of October, I saw a 64GB gold about 50 miles north of me( online pickup option) .

I used a upgrade that was not going to be used from our extra line ( mine was taken up already by the online order) and SNAGGED that baby.

once I had my new phone in hand I cancelled the other order and went to the att store and had them fix the sim cards and line issue.

I would recommend stalking the att online order system and doing a instore pickup.

I cannot understand why they didnt make enough of the gold! Frankly unless it was a quality problem producing the gold phones, they really botched this one.

I got tired of waiting and since the 5s isnt a huge upgrade I dont see what the hold up is. it is a 5 with a fingerprint scanner and a new camera.

I did have to stalk the apple.com site to get one, the second they pop up and are gone very fast.

The problem with scenario you proposed is that most don't have a free line so they would need to cancel there online order first. And by the time they cancel, wait to be upgrade eligible, and place the in-store pick up order there phone is gone. Then that leaves them with no options but to wait for store stock or order online again and be at the bottom of the list.

yeah that is a bummer, I dont know if I would have cancelled my online order and hoped something shows up since I only wanted gold.

I also would NOT have cancelled my order if I saw one and hoped a phone was still there when my eligibility came back if I only had one line.

Because I have 6 kids and multiple Iphones already, getting an upgrade eligible line isnt an issue, but if you only have the one line that is a different thing entirely.

It would be nice if apple would give people a general timeline as "october" is frustratingly vague , for anyone with "first world problems" like this.

if I wanted a silver or black one, those seem MUCH more available, and during my stalking time I saw many of those pop up and sell fast. I only saw this one gold one though in the days I was watching the page.

For the stores in my state the "stocking" time was VERY random. It isnt one time of day or any system that I could see. I didnt use one of those checkers though, I just checked apple.com every time I had a spare second.

Good luck!

Unfortunately we have to wait But the best things in life are worth waiting for!!!

I know what i am doing next year now, ordering from Apple and AT&T. Whoever ships first I am canceling the other.

AT&T messed up my order HUGE this year and duplicated 3 times, I ended up canceling it after they got everything figured out. But i wonder though, i ordered it on the 20th. I may have had it by now if i did not cancel on the 25th..

Well, the other thing though is that I did cancel all 3 orders and they just started calling me yesterday about something about porting my number over is going to have issues... YA BECAUSE I CANCELED THE ORDER YOU MORONS

Seems really carrier dependent--I found nothing of any size or color for Sprint in LA just now. Makes me wish I still lived in the Northeast--I was seeing 64GB phones for Sprint in several Philly/NJ/NYC stores.

I just checked my previous homeland Florida, and right now the Brandon store is showing an AT&T 64gb Gold in stock, I'm sick!

Sprint has no data throughput here in the midwest, and there are none of those phones available anyway. Verizon and AT&T at least have made some investment in the network out here...
