If you were that impatient, you should have woken up and ordered one right at the correct time. There were no system wide crashes or anything else stopping you this year.
yeah and "according to my post history" I couldn't order on the first day because Apple won't ship to a residential customers biling address if it's a po box. I had tried going to Verizon stores and VZWs site, then ended up changing my billing to my work address. Which I was reluctant to do because it adds a few taxes and fees to my bill due to being a different county than my home.
But hey thanks for your smug hindsight. I'm sure if every single person had just ordered at midnight like a good fanboy it would have worked flawlessly and we would all have phones!

Again, I am not whining that I don't have a phone right away. I accept that things take time. I order stuff from numerous vendors all week long. I know the drill.
I would just like a more realistic timeframe than " uh October-ish?"
That is pathetic for a company with Apple's resources in IT, supply chain management and just plain money.
"Sorry we dont know when your iPhone will be ready, but we are happy to announce the 5S debut in..."

----------

Let me sum this up for you OP:

You dont feel entitled of getting your phone sooner than others but still are complaining about other countries beeing launched? Which countries exactly are those? I only know about switzerland, which will start in 2014.

Then you wouldnt mind if the phones would launch, lets say in November, when enough phones for everyone are produced. So you wont grant the phone to others unless you could have it yourself.

By the way Im also waiting. But your whining is ridiculous.

If I ran a restaurant, and took orders for lunch, then fed half those people and started taking orders for dinner. How do you think the other half would feel? I do not begrudge anyone else their phones. I don't think Apple should only sell to Americans first or anything. I do think Apple should practice a FIFO policy though.
What is really ridiculous is the lenghts that people bend over backwards to defend Apple. I like Apple stuff too, but I got over the gee whiz aspect of it a long time ago.

By the way...I have a broken iphone 4(which you may have gathered if you read the previous pages). If my phone wasn't broken I wouldn't care at all.

----------

i woke up and drove straight to the apple store instead of fighting the online rush at 3am :D
Must be nice, I work full time, about 50-60 hours a week.
I simply do not have the flexibility in my schgedule.

I have never waited in lines for an apple phone and have always gotten it on launch day. The key is to be at a small town Verizon store when they open on the morning of launch day. Also call the day before and ask how many they will have.

This time i got a guy at the store to come in an hour before the store opened to sell me my two.

Idk, there was one time when I camped out overnight, one time when I waited in line for 6 hours for an iPhone, but either the world is changing, I'm getting older, something.....I just don't have the patience for this anymore.:(

I'm giving my orders another week to do something, or I will just cancel and sad & disappointed, move on. RIP :apple: lol

Just a helpful tip for next time but if apple won't ship to a PO box, simply put down your shipping address as the address of the post office with your PO box being the unit number.

So instead of PO box address like this:

John Doe
P.O. box 3456
Anytown, USA 34567

You would instead put this 'normal looking' address instead (1234 Riverdale Drive being the address of the post office itself of course):

John Doe
1234 Riverdale Drive #3456
Anytown, USA 34567

Works for me all the time as I have a PO box myself to get around shipping restrictions.

Hope this helps for next time :)

What information that I dont have leads you to believe that apple wouldn't serve their orders in a FIFO maner? Do you see the claim that you make without backing it up?

I don't say you have no internal insight into the order-process. But if you know some more, would you mind to share it with us?

I just find it somewhat ridicullous to imagine that Apple uses a random number generator to choose the next order to ship. Or that they conspired against their custommers some special custommers like you in particular. We all have to wait and all will be served. There's no magic about it.

To your broken phone, IDK I have a minimum of 2-3 working old phones that I could use in such a case. And if I had none myself, I know a handfull of people who would be glad handing me over their old phones for the meantime.

I suggest you re-read more carefully. That isn't what I said.

On another unrelated note, just checking the VZW site, they are giving estimates of the 3rd and 4th week in Oct. for new customers. I hope that means that orders in the pipe will arrive before that.

Was it that hard to wake up at 3am? Heck if you woke up at 7am you had 7-10 days and would be getting it in a few days.

if you read any of the posts above, you'd see that many, many, MANY of us were up and online and placed our orders right at 3 and STILL got stuck with the nebulous "October" ship date. I really wish I liked the space grey, but because I (and millions of others) don't, we have to wait.

Off topic, but anyone with AT&T know if we will have upgrade fees on our next bill even if we don't have our phones?

It showed up on mine.

Didnt realize you were into girly gaudy gold. To each his own and enjoy the wait.

Just My Two Cents On This Topic

Hi everyone, I'm new to this thread (after just discovering it a little while ago) so please don't crucify me... immediately.

I ordered my Gold 5s on September 22, and have been waiting (im)patiently ever since. I definitely understand the OP's perspective, as it is one I share. However like most people say, it is what it is. No matter how loud one screams on a forum, Tim Cook can't hear it.

Sure I would like my phone to be in my hands, yesterday. If it was, then I would not be posting right now. The frustration I feel now, is one of regret (why couldn't I have placed that order sooner?). An analogy to this situation would be a subway train (or bus) pulling away, despite you being close enough to make it. People have missed getting their phones this week, by just a matter of seconds. They were so close, yet so far away. As a result, they now must wait at least a week or two (or even a month). They are left behind, just because of a lousy few seconds.

For the people who ordered right at midnight, congratulations. You were lucky enough to beat the crowd, and got your phones in a decent time. However, that doesn't mean that you should feel superior to those who didn't. Shipping dates were decided in a matter of seconds, and you all just happened to be on the right end of the stick. It's not positive conversation to point out how smart you were to order at midnight, because some who did, still haven't received their phones. Again I repeat, it seems to be just pure luck. How would you feel if you were in the other person's shoes, and someone scoffed at you?

For the people who ordered later, we in some ways deserve our fates. We didn't just miss the initial bus by a few seconds, but hours (if not days). We should have been more proactive in making our orders, and maybe we could have been part of the conversation. Apple should have had their **** together before having the 5s go live, but then again who knows. Unfortunately we'll just have to take what we're fed, and trust that the phone will arrive sooner rather than later.

Personally, if I could reverse time to the 20th, I surely would have ordered my phone at midnight.

Sorry for the long post, but I feel as if it was something that had to be said.

Wow what great advice, get an S4. That's what everybody wants, an oversized plastic phone with a clunky interface and no Touch ID. ;)

Can anyone point me to even ONE post that, prior to the iPhone 5S coming out, said "gee, I wish my phone had a fingerprint scanner, that's my number one request that I'm sure everyone wants too". I don't remember any of those. But larger screen requests? Lots of those.

Don't get me wrong, I have an iPhone 5S because I like iOS better than Android. But the constant dumping on the S4 is dumb. The S4 is a good phone, as is the 5S, and if the iPhone had all those features (except the plastic part) that the S4 had, people he would be going apesh*t over it.

what features? that eye scrolling thing is a gimmick. I honestly didn't even know the S4 had that until some samsung fanboy pointed it out. I know at least 5-6 people with S4s and they've never said anything about it. I'm guessing they don't even know about that feature either.

The thing about apple is people don't know what they want until apple tells them what they want. Nobody wanted a touchscreen phone until the iPhone came out. nobody wanted a portable media player until the iPod was released, etc.

As for larger screen requests, yeah im sure there are plenty of those. Maybe im in the minority, but i dont want a larger screen. I actually want a phone that fits in my pocket. I remember my first cell phone was one of those old nokia 5100s. Every cell phone i got since then got smaller, i never wanted a bigger phone. Got a razr after that pos, then the iPhone. Just my two cents, but i don't think bigger is better. My iPhone barely fits comfortably in my pocket as it is.

Sorry they don't have the ability to produce your phone via magic. But as long as MILLIONS of people want one, it will be hard to get. That's life. It took me 3 months to get my MacBook Pro Retina. Sucks, but it's not personal. And you can't say it reflects poorly on their customer service.
that was very helpful:rolleyes:

I can say it reflects poorly.
When I ordered it did NOT say backordered.
It did not say October.
I would not have jumped down that rabbit hole if I had known that the ship date was going to get pushed off indefinitely.

Every other web retailer out there can take advance orders and make it clear that is what you are doing. Every other company like B&H Photo or Musicians Friend can give more specific date than next month.
Heck, Verizon is giving more specific dates than Apple.

Of course their dates are late October.

I am not really flipping out mad or anything.
But the flip comments from the fanmob do get me hot.

Seeing as how I AM a girl, it's not all that surprising. Still, no need for the insults, really.
Nice. Well Played.

this is a mute point. Apple sold 9 million iPhones on the launch weekend, more than any other iPhone release. What does this mean?

Why?

Because other releases had sold out iPhones after the first few days as well.

Simple logic. So no, apple isn't purposely slowing production just to annoy people.

Well order your 5S and replace your nonfunctional iphone with a 5. Then return it when your new life sustaining 5S arrives.
at full ubsubsidized price. I've already used up my upgrade on the 5S you see.
Can I borrow your credit card?
You'll get the balance refunded after the return is processed.

Very well said. Hopefully, the same people that show no empathy and crucify well written and logical opinions here will show you some mercy. Have a great day.

What do I have to reread? I got your point exactly, you are the one who doesn't know what he is talking bout. Just twisting your words however fits you best.

So show me what I supposedly got wrong. Not that it is all written down.

Nice. Well Played.

If apple isn't handling it the way you think they should. Cancel your order and go thru a "better" source. Good luck. I'm sure Tim is really sad about your dilemma, since you are the only customer that matters, after all.

If you take 9 000 000/ 237,000 phones they make in a day then it works out to 37 days. Why couldn't they start 2 months in advance instead of one?

probably because they wern't ready to start production 2 months earlier? It's not like the 5S has been complete and ready to go for a year....

And delaying the release by one month would have the same effect of people waiting, just more people getting it on launch day.

Isn't that the way it should be ? People getting a product when it's advertised to be available to the consumer ? I gives you're right though. :)
