I'd be much more aggravated if I had ordered as early as you and was still iphone-less.

For what it's worth it seems like folks are getting expedited shipping for back ordered phones. So maybe you will see that sooner than you think.

I am really losing my patience. It isn't that I'm a prima donna, I just hate situations where there is no recourse.
This happened to me. Placing my gold 5S order just short of 4 minutes after the online release I had an immediate shipping date of between the 11-16 of October. This was shortly pushed back to the 16-24, where I was going to simply cancel my order and hope to buy instore. Me never being lucky it turned out that my phone changed from processing to preparing to ship, then shipped in as little as 24 hrs. My 16-24 ship date turned into having my phone delivered by October 2 by the end of the day.

For those still on processing hang in there. Things can change real quick.

This thread is just a load of 1st world problems. Like them truly awful 'real housewives' shows.

What I wanted to say.

While billions of people are wondering where their next meal will come from, we here are complaining about waiting for a luxury product.

First world problems!

Well some of us are grown ups that can't wait in line because we have full time jobs. 60+ hours a week here.

Personally I think Apple engineers this scenario deliberately every year. They certainly have a clue to how many current iphone users there are with phones older than a 5.

I generally avoid purchasing anytime near a launch date. I'd rather get the product after the kinks are ironed out. But this year my phone is really beat up. It's taken a few drops and such.

Haha... who said I wasn't a grown up with a full time job as well? It's one night that I had to wake up at 3:00 am to order a phone. It was worth it. Poor excuse on your part, you did not want to do the work to get a phone early but you sure do want to complain about it...

It's supply and demand. There are phones out there on ebay that are commanding north of $1000 dollars. Want one NOW? That's a option.

I think anyone who ordered 15 minutes after ordering opened up ended up merely placed a backorder for the item (without Apple clearly saying so), to be filled WHEN SUPPLY IS CAUGHT UP.

It's just like the ammo scare earlier this year. I spent close to a thousand dollars for 2000 rounds of ammunition and had to wait nearly 2 months before they could even ship is as DEMAND was outstripping SUPPLY.

And to the remark of companies "should" short the people walking into stores to fill internet orders: even in this day and age, I guess that brick and mortar shops take precedence over Internet sales, for those companies who still have brick and mortar shops.

Idk, there was one time when I camped out overnight, one time when I waited in line for 6 hours for an iPhone, but either the world is changing, I'm getting older, something.....I just don't have the patience for this anymore.:(

I'm giving my orders another week to do something, or I will just cancel and sad & disappointed, move on. RIP :apple: lol

I understand the feeling. I recall doing the iPhone Launch Day thing in 2007. This time I had my heart set on a 64gb gold 5s so I vacillated between doing the launch thing and ordering online. After calling the Apple Store the day before launch someone name Andy assured me that they would have all colors and models available on launch day in their store. So, I decided to do the launch day thing. Anyway, it turned out that they had a total of 7 gold or silver iPhones and the rest were all space grey. I ended up being a bit disappointed (and wishing I had ordered online at 3 am EST) and got the space grey as that was all they had. The good thing is that in hindsight I realized now, after seeing the champagne gold in the store, I might have not been happy with the white/gold combination. After spending some quality time with my space grey, I actually like it. That said, I am no longer in pursuit of the elusive white/gold iPhone 5s and happy with what I got.

Often clouds DO have sliver (or in this case space grey) linings :D
Based on this year's experience I did vow to never do an Apple Launch day again. I'll just order online and wait patiently, in the comfort of my home for my new toy to arrive.

If I knew that the item I ordered was going to be backordered so bad I wouldnt have placed the order. It certainly didn't say anything about "October" when I placed it.
Thanks for your helpful advice. I will be sure to remember that 3 years or so from now when I buy my next phone. It must be the kind of behavior Apple expects from its f̶a̶n̶b̶a̶s̶e̶ customers.

it would not be so bad if iphones were backordered everywhere. It is only the online orders that are backed up.

I am fed up with waiting, I also queued on launch day, but still didn't get one.

But sadly nothing I can do.

This will be my first smartphone, so it's torture waiting to be able to use it and improve my life style.

However there's nothing I can do.

I still go to my local apple store before they open, but 9/10 they don't have new stock, and when they do resellers buy them out before it's my turn.

I am not sure a smartphone will improve your lifestyle. The only major benefit I derive that I can only get from a smartphone is paying for parking without using the parking meter.
Other than that I could get by with a flip phone and an ipad.

Oh, it will for me.

Satnav = help me get to places, I'm a big fan of walking, but there's a huge amount of places I don't know how to get to.

Picture notes = I lend alot of stuff, and often forget my notepad where I write this stuff down, also after an amount of time has passed, I forgot what I lent or if it's being returned. This is useful to me as I carry a phone with me all the time.

Games = For commuting.

Films = For my sometimes 3 hour car journeys, I get so bored normally, so hopefully these will help me bare travelling.

Social networking.

Cam scan = scanning documents with just the camera. So useful for me to make copies on the go.

Train and bus time schedule updates = london tubes are a mess, so it's often hard to plan in advance, iphone app for this is great.

Books = This is for reference purposes, saves space and money.

Wordlens = For translating purposes, using camera, sadly no japanese yet, otherwise it'd be number one useful app for me.

Also some maybe good apps but not sure yet.

Tile = Puts a tracking tile on objects, like keys or bag and locates where they are.

Barcode reader = For price comparison.

Object measure = An app using it's camera to give me measurements of items.

These are just some of the functions I know that will make my life better and more easy.

Let alone just having internet on the go and being able to look up things.

Can get them on an ipad, sure, but it's a bit less mobile and the people I know still call people who use them knobs, so it isn't socially acceptable enough yet.

sad to say but I doubt apple cares. my fiancé is in the same boat, her first iPhone leaving android and we've been waiting since launch day for it to arrive.

Well we don't wait and just go with what's available. We value our time and just don't get the euphoric feeling of staying up or waking back up to preorder a material device. We're young and so don't get the hype everyone else seems to get from a phone purchase. I guess since we don't follow trends and stuff we never will. Don't get me wrong seems like a good device people tell us(when it doesn't have cracks in it like most we see), but we don't get the hype.

Once the at&t rep quoted 28 - 42 days for gold or 7 - 14 days for the other colors my wife pretty much squinted her Asian eyes and gave that WTF look. That was launch day morning and I knew that wasn't going to go down well. Rep typed on iPad starting order and wife said that won't be necessary as she will choose from the phones in stock, the rep looked mad and then said that she already finished the order for the gold iPhone. You don't want to know what happen after the rep said that...Lets just say that rep got cussed out in 3 different languages. Another rep canceled the order and got the sell of a full off contract phone. I can say that the other rep won't be looking to wait on us again next year if she is still there.

yea I heard horror stories of people confronting reps of just starting orders without the customers giving the OK for anything. everyone hands are tied at the moment and all we can do is wait. dumb that apple did this and cannot find the reason why they made such a small amount of a highly demanded product by many. at some extent, apples hands are tied up too because it's about how fast and accurate the builders can get these phones done and meet everyone's demand.

Possibly for a lot of people a smartphone is nothing more than a luxury object. That could also be true of a tablet and even a computer.
But a lot of us are at the point where a smartphone is a necessity for our jobs. This was more true for me when I was an IT contractor and worked in many different locations. Often on short notice. But even in corporate IT I am required to email pics of malfunctioning gear, as well as be on call via phone and email 24/7/365.

It's funny the entertainment value I derive formmy smartphones id probably a lot less than most of you. I've only got one or two pretty old games and I never really get around to listening to tunes much.

Now my Canon DSLR, THAT is a silly luxury object.
Not good enough for pro work, way overkill for casual use.

looks like you have done yor research!
Wasn't trying to shoot you down so much as manage expectations. It's an unconscious reflex for most IT guys ;).

Much easier said than done. I'm sat here going a little bit crazy waiting my 5S to arrive. I now live on this forum...

Yes, I can understand how difficult the wait must be, however it probably beats this year's Apple Store Launch Day experience for me. So, next time I'll just deal with the online ordering waiting game.

BTW, I have my 5s and still live on this forum ;)

I'm seriously fed up waiting!!

However, I'm still going to wait for it anyways. :D

You should just walk into a Verizon store and buy whatever phone that you like they have in stock. Clearly, apple doesn't meet your demands and another device will probably make you just as happy.

It's a sad state of life when we can get our luxury goods on demand.

I placed an order through an authorized corporate retailer associated with my carrier on the evening of the 20th. I figured they would be a pretty low priority on the supply chain, but the price of the phone+contract they were offering couldn't be beat. My point is that I expected a long wait when I placed the order, so I'm not here to complain.

I just wanted to say that I can sympathize with both sides of the issue. On the one hand, yes, it is ridiculous and somewhat childish to whine and complain about having to wait for a smartphone when a surprisingly large portion of the world would kill for a decent meal and clean water. But on the other hand, it's also ridiculous that a company like Apple can repeatedly launch products with inadequate supply to even cover the first day of sales. Why not schedule releases for a time when there's at least a reasonable chance of being able to fill all orders in a timely fashion? I mean, most of us probably have jobs or other responsibilities that require us to meet deadlines, and usually we don't have the luxury of making those whom we are accountable to wait for weeks.
