I wouldn't have a receipt if I buy it somewhere else. I was just hoping since its an Apple product they would allow me to exchange it anyway.

I don't know if most places will allow that. I know even Wal-Mart and Target are getting more strict about receipts and needing them. Either that, or they look up the purchase via your charge/debit card number.

I guess you can try and let us know.

I'm pretty sure the Apple Store has record of anything you bought.
The don't even give you a receipt by default, they email it to you.

You may have to do some tap dancing.
Not sure if it is worth the trouble.

I ordered one at the same time I preorder my iPad and when I got it I and tried it a few times, and for me didn't think it was worth near the $73 dollars I paid for it and went to returns, where they sent me a prepaid FedEx label.

Sent it back and was credited a full refund within 2 days.

Want something like the Apple case I had for the iPad 1, I really liked that one.

So u geniuses buy a $70 leather cover then a $20 dollar cover for the back thus spending a 1/5 of a price of an entry iPad

Lol

U guys!

Many, many of the fakes have the inscription inside. $20 seems really low for an authentic cover.

I've played with a Smart Cover in an Apple Store.

Mine looks, feels and smells exactly like the real thing. No weird hinge issues. No weirdness with the magnets.

Frankly, even if it *is* a fake, I don't give a ****, because it's literally exactly the same thing.

Yep...i'm one of those that's paid for a leather smart cover and a back cover. At least I got the smart cover for $55 on sale at MacMall. I also got the Belkin Snap Case on sale for around $20. It's still too much to spend for a case but I can't find any other product that works as well as the smart cover. If I'm paying so much for an iPad then I will certainly pay that much for a case/cover combo that I want.

That being said I'm not happy with spending that much. But I'm happy with the products...the price for Apple products...

well you pay a lot for an item that isnt functioning to it's full capabilities.

hence why u should of got a folio case in the 1st place. :D

I got mine free from Apple! :)

When they rolled out iTunes Match. There were a few glitch and I called them for a refund because I wasn't satisfied. They said they couldn't refund me the $25 but instead offered me a leather smart cover! Talk about a company that knows how to treat their customers!

Yea, I know all about Product Red, the question was, is $70 too much for the Red smart cover?

My answer; doesn't matter if it is pink, green, or purple, if its leather, its $70.

To answer your question, no, it's not too much.

I got my RED cover as soon as it was available last year for my iPad 2. When I saw that it was available but it wasn't out yet, I just knew that I wanted to have it. I'm an advocated for HIV/AIDS research and the color, while it's not my favorite color just makes the iPad appear slicker. Anyway, I had spilled some liquid on it when I was at the hospital and it looked like it was going to stain the leather. I tried wiping it off with water, leather cleaner, etc but it was still there. I just gave up and was fine with it there. But, several months now, it disappeared like it was never there. But yeah, I do think it's worth it. I've had it for almost a year (or a year?) and it's still in a great shape. There's none of that rust that people say. The inside is red as well and writing is clear on the inside. Also, there is some serial number on the hinge. I suppose with anything that's leather, it gets a bit better with age.

Well I stopped by the Apple store today. I decided I didn't care if I had the black, but I do like the red better. I wasn't going to make a big deal about it, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Anyway, long story short, I brought in the black one I bought on sale for $40 and just told the employee I kind of liked the red one, he said no problem and just exchanged them. No questions asked. I love Apples customer service.

U guys!

I spent $30 for my back cover. I like the way the leather cover looks and I don't have an entry level iPad.

----------

again i think the cover is pretty stupid.

no fall protection but whatever u love apple :D

So don't buy one.

The more I use my iPad, the more I love the red leather cover (it was between red or Navy). Something about the red against the black iPad looks great. I would've loved it even more if the red was even darker.

It still doesn't justify the ridiculous steep price, and the leather is looking like it's getting dirtier and even slightly worn, but alas... it is a foolish price paid by a fool, but a happy fool.

Why are Apple Smart Covers so expensive anyway? Honestly, how much profit is Apple making off one of these leather ones?

I just ordered a red one from Amazon. I had $11 credit, so the total price was $35 shipped. Not sure if it's real or not, I guess I'll see when I receive it...

MacMall had them for $54.99, too (All but the red one). At least they did two days ago. :)

Thanks for the heads up, picked up a black leather today for 52.99. Seemed to have most leather colors except for red. so far I really like it. Now just need to decide what to do with the back.

Money comes and go but you only live once :D love the red smart cover :apple:

I agreed I paid for a lot, but this setup functions fine for me. I haven't found a folio that has a front cover that matches the quality and function of the Apple smart cover.

To each their own.

I wanted the red leather but they didn't have it in the Best Buy where I purchased my iPad so I ended up choosing the smart cover in cream. Big mistake. Had fingerprints and smudges by the time I got home and that was with clean and dry hands.

I really don't know why the leather couldn't have been treated to wear better. I have wallets and purses that look great even after months and months of hard everyday use. To spend $70 on such a cover in my opinion is not worth it. I don't mind spending a premium but for a premium product and this cover surely is not.

Just picked up a used tan leather one on ebay for $25. Going to darken with oil.
